Restaurants in Bonnyrigg
Beetroot Bar & Grill
33 Polton St, BonnyriggEverything about this place was first class. The surroundings are comfortable and relaxing, the staff were friendly and helpful. \n\nWe had a two and a half year old with us and they not only had a high chair available but wax crayons and a page of various activities for young people. There was also a kids menu, well done Beetroot!\n\nThe food was very tasty and the portions were a really good size. I had Cullen Skink as a starter and it was delicious. It is a particular favourite of mine and it was brim full of tasty chunks of fish! I have had it in other restaurants and it's usually liquidised within an inch of its life. THIS is how it should be served! I then had Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, with a beautiful sauce, so delicious!\n\nThe staff were friendly, you didn't feel rushed. There was a dessert menu available, but I had no more room! I ordered a hot chocolate but had to take my granddaughter home, so they waited until I returned before they served it to me, such a nice thought.\n\nI will definitely be back and would highly recommend this as a place to visit.

Luci's Restaurant & Cocktail Bar
14 High St, LasswadeWe had a slightly haphazard meal at Luci’s last night. There was an unexpected delay in getting our table then they had run out of steaks, unusual for a Saturday night. However, they recognised without prompting that we had not had our usual experience. Starters arrived for free as soon as we sat down and then they comped all of our drinks: a gesture above and beyond the slight inconvenience we experienced. You know they care about their guests, and of course we will be back.

The Anvil Inn
15 High St, Bonnyrigg3rd time we have eaten here (just can't find all the photos)
1st time we had Nachos (single portion) between us and the sizzling chili chicken. Nachos were good with the sizzling chicken being amazing. It was one of the chefs specials on the day and it was that: special. Chicken was almost melt in the mouth with what would be roast veg served on a sizzling platter. Quite spicy, but not too bad that we couldn't finish the meal.
2nd time we had crispy battered mushrooms to start and nachos. We shared our starters together. The nachos were good again but the mushrooms were phenomenal. They are served with garlic butter and a small salad of cucumber, tomato amd lettuce. Bursting with flavour. We both had the Anvil burgers with everything on it. Wow. Full of taste. Wasn't greasy or full of fat so felt like homemade burgers. Could be wrong but didn't feel like your standard mass produced ones. Absolutely full afterwards.
Recently when we went in we both had the crispy battered mushrooms and weren't disappointed at all in their taste again. We both had the battered fish and chips. Fish was delicious and so were the chips.
We drank pints of Tennents as they didn't do ale on tap at the time. About £3.70 a pint from memory.
Main meals aren't too expensive and I like the fact it is a smaller menu too.
Definitely worth checking out. It's not been too busy when we've been in. Would advise checking to see when the kitchen is open as it's only one chef. You won't be disappointed with the food.

Bannoc Brewhouse
33 Polton St, BonnyriggThe bar is beautifully decorated, and it is a great place to go for a quiet drink. The beer options are great, but the cocktails are quite disappointing. The majority are made with funkin cocktails mix and taste very artificial and cheap. The carafes are pleasant.

We stopped at Pia’s Takeaway on our way to a camping adventure and were blown away! We ordered the pizza meal deal and couldn’t resist adding the fritters and chips. The highlight? The deep-fried battered mushrooms—crispy, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious! The staff were so friendly and welcoming, making it an all-round fantastic experience. Highly recommend if you’re passing through!
