The Waterfront, Rothesay
16 E Princes St, Rothesay, Isle of ButeWhat a place! Authentic Eastern European food on an island off the west coast of Scotland. Shouldn’t work but it does. I’m glad that I took a chance ( the windows were all misted up plus the lights inside are dim) so I wasn’t really sure what I was walking into. Smallish interior which makes it snug and cozy. The locals are lucky and I feel sure that if I lived there, I’d be a regular visitor myself.

Ambience Café
7 Victoria St, Rothesay, Isle of ButeFirst time to this restaurant. Menu looked inviting, however, disappointing after the food arrived. The king prawn linguine stated sweet chilli; but it was so hot with chilli and the prawns were grossly over cooked , that it wasn't pleasant. Also the waitress looked so bored and disinterested . Such a shame as Rothesay seriously lacks a decent food place, and the four of us thought that Ambience would be a good bet. Not sure I would return here unfortunately.

Kingarth Hotel
Kingarth, Isle of ButeVisited place for dinner with friends. Got food this time round so only can say something about restaurant. Booked table and got this done as requested so point food prepared with reasonable time and only but to serving as not felt very well to have friend waiting for his dish so long , rather awkward.

Caledonia Bistro & Deli
31 Marine Rd, Port Bannatyne, Isle of ButeAfter years of numerous Scotland holidays, my husband and I finally made it to Bute. Dinner at the Caledonia Bistro & Deli was most definitely one of the highlights of our visit. Both the mussels and green Thai curry were excellent, as was the wine. Service was also superb. Highly recommended - we're looking forward to returning! Please take note: the restaurant is quite small, so reservations in advance are a must!

Sea Dragon Chinese Takeaway
4 E Princes St, Rothesay, Isle of ButeThis Chinese takeaway was highly recommended by some local people. We recently had a few days break and this takeaway has to be one of the nicest that I have tasted. The food my wife and I ordered was very tasty and still hot upon delivery. The shop called me to say delivery was on the way and would only be 5 mins and it was. We were staying at the Glenburn Hotel and the delivery guy brought it straight to the door. The amount of food in the portions was impressive. We had a special curry and a chicken chow mein Definitely recommended.

India Pavilion
7 Argyle St, Rothesay, Isle of ButeGreat food but watch out for early closing. Two of us walked in at 2215 for a main course only sit down meal (having literally just passed the previous customers as they walked away after their meal) to be told it was takeaway only - the hours on Google are advertised as a 2300 finish. We were looking forward to a curry so decided to go ahead & order with the intention of finding a dry spot in town to eat the meal. We ordered the chicken tikka chamakchola which came with pilau rice & to be fair, it was very good - just a shame we couldn't dine in especially seeing as we'd eaten our food & got back to our hotel by 2300.

West End Cafe - Bute
1-3 Gallowgate, Rothesay, Isle of ButeOrdered 2 fish and chips to take out. They were as good as you get nowadays, soggy chips but a well cooked crispy fish. The staff were busy talking to each other and made you feel you were bothering them.

Zavaronis Cafeteria
20 Argyle St, Rothesay, Isle of ButeThe absolute best ice cream! Of course, everyone is a fan of ice cream, but this surpasses all! Absolutely a must try if you ever visit the Isle of Bute - extremely reasonable pricing and the *best* quality & taste. I personally recommend trying their standard vanilla flavour + the raspberry (?) sauce on top as this is genuinely my favourite ice cream in the world, but of course all their flavours are great regardless. I believe they make the ice cream themselves via a milk-based recipe, its very light and refreshing, perfect for any occasion. The staff are friendly, the chippy-chips they serve are decent, though I can’t comment too much on anything else they serve since I haven’t tried much else myself! Their cafe is normally busy when we visit so I’d say that’s a good sign, their ice cream’s standard has been very consistent as well during our countless visits. I’d never hop on the ferry to leave Bute without having a Zavaroni’s ice cream!

Three In One
10 Argyle St, Rothesay, Isle of ButeGot some lunch here before starting off a lil exploring of the island. Got the munchy box and a smoked sausage pizza. The service was not really the best, waited for about 5 min before we were attended to even though there was someone at the counter and we were the only people there. The food was absolutely delicious and wished we got more pizza. Good value for money and will likely be back again when in the area again.
