Polly Kettle
Burray, ArdageAs an Egyptian visiting Orkney Islands very far from home, I can say that food Polly Kettle IS an excellent representation of Egyptian Cuisine. I tried the hawawshi and falafel and loved them.
Lovely staff and very inviting atmosphere.
Will return again when I get the chance <3

Sakura Kitchen
32 Laverock Rd, KirkwallOrdered a meal for me and my family (including 2x younger/fussy children) and it was a very quiet affair in our room that night, with it being enjoyed by all!
The meal was ready bang on 7pm and all tasted fresh and you could tell everything was hand-made rather than bought in (including the wasabi, which was proper wasabi, not that green tinged horseradish some places peddle on you!)
I truly recommend to locals and tourists alike...we'll be coming back next time we come across!
(Sorry no pics as was eaten far too quickly ?)

Helgi's
14 Harbour St, KirkwallNice place close to ferry terminal. Good choice of local beers from the tap/pump. I did not have chance to try food as they were fully booked so I sat by the bar. To avoid dissapointment I would suggest to reserve table in advance.

Robertsons Coffeehoose & Bar
Church Rd, St Margaret's Hope, OrkneyWe visited this charming local café twice during our stay in Orkney and would happily return again! The setting is lovely, the atmosphere warm and welcoming, and the staff are genuinely friendly. A great spot to relax and enjoy a meal.

Royal Cask Whisky Gin Bar
40 Victoria St, KirkwallWhat a place I was in Whiskey Heaven, my girlfriend was in Gin heaven
I sampled some, in my price range drams, from the magnificent Highland Park distillery, I was not disappointed
The bar was tastefully decorated with various bottles of whiskey in cabinets adorning the walls and a large display in the rear bar
Barman seemed to know his stuff and was very helpful
Didn't see much Gin on display, although I did have my Whiskey goggles on, but my girlfriend was very happy with the various tastes available
Wheelchair accessibility: Bar is on ground level from the street, easily accessible

Bothy Bar
Mounthoolie Ln, KirkwallStopped in for some lunch and a couple pints. Ordered the beef and ale stew. The food was delicious, the stew and bread went incredibly well together. The bartender was a champ with how busy it was getting to everyone. When I come back to Kirkwall I will definitely visit again.

Stronsay Fish Mart Cafe Hostel
Whitehall, StronsayWe spent a week on Stronsay in June and found it a beautiful place to stay. We visited the Fish Mart Cafe, the day after we arrived and each day it was open. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed the lunches; John had prepared a vegie dish specially for us. Coffees and lovely cakes, all very good value. We appreciated the information and advice given by John and Tara which helped us make the most of our time on the island and which added to our 'island experience'. We thought The Fish Mart was a valuable resource for island visitors, as well as residents.

Argo's Bakery
Albert St, KirkwallHighly recommend the "fresh cream donut"!! 5 stars.I highly recommend the fresh cream donuts. It’s the best fresh cream I’ve ever tasted in my life. It’s cheap and super delicious. Definitely recommended!!! Go buy it early in the morning because it will be sold out by cruise tourists between 10 and 11 o’clock. I couldn't buy it anymore when I went back later. The milk was average. The cream biscuits were average. The store clerk was very friendly.

SunBean Coffee House
35 Victoria St, KirkwallFriendly baristas, great coffee, and an amazing ICED AMERICANO. Do make sure you order the ICED AMERICANO. It’s an off-menu specialty that they love to make. No one else on the island makes ICED AMERICANOS apparently, but they make them very well here. Again, that’s an ICED AMERICANO. Delicious.

The Sands Bar & Restaurant
Burray, OrkneyWe were touring the bottom of Orkney last Sunday and needed somewhere for lunch. I picked this place due to both being near where we were and the rating. When we got there, they were fully booked but managed to find us a table in the corner. The food quality was excellent. I especially liked the soup. The atmosphere is also really pleasant. The staff were excellent and attentive and it was excellent value for money. I would certainly recommend here for lunch, but on a Sunday you need to book.

St Magnus Community Cafe
KirkwallThis place is cheap and has an old school British cafe vibe that’s so relaxed and pleasant compared to other, fancier places in town. I come here every week while waiting for an appointment, and I’ve got to know a few of the staff by sight and they’re just solid gold. The place is usually pretty busy, especially in the summer, but they just plow through the queue with cheerfulness and efficiency. I watched a young lady (who I haven’t seen much so maybe she’s new) explaining almost every item on the menu to a non-English speaking family, and as someone who works in tourism it was honestly a masterclass in patience and kindness. I couldn’t have done it better. There’s another particular member of staff who I’ve twice seen run out from behind the counter to carry a tray to a table for an older lady with a walking frame. The lady probably could have managed it, but she didn’t have to struggle because the lady anticipated her need and offered without being condescending. It was lovely. And then she apologised when she came back for making us wait for all of twelve seconds. Just fab staff all round, I can’t say enough nice things. I hope they read this.
Also whoever does the baking, 10/10. Had the best scone today.

Real Food Cafe
25 Broad St, KirkwallService was a bit slow and serving girl was on her phone with her back to the order desk whilst I stood waiting to get my order taken. Made up for by the food and coffee. Which was fantastic. The smoked bacon and chicken baked potato was just exceptional and I'd thoroughly recommend to try it on a few things. Enjoyed a perusal around the shop afterwards as well.

Whistlebrae Sanday, OrkneyFriendly, well set up motor home stopover with excellent attention to detail. Lovely showers and toilets, beautiful location just a stroll away from the stony beach. 7 Bridge St, KirkwallThe best curry we have had for ages. My veggie korma was wonderfully tasty, not remotely bland as some can be. My husband loved his chicken madras, said it was perfect. We had to rush to catch the ferry but this wasn’t a problem. Great, friendly service. Enough food for two days! Thank you.
