The Lighthouse
77 High St, AldeburghHappy to recommend The Lighthouse Aldeburgh, Suffolk. The town is a little tired now - and we were there high season - we were last here over 20 years ago when Meades reviewed The Regatta and this restaurant was yet to reviewed by Gill.
This is a venue that delivers quality produce through high end classic cooking in a convival seaside atmosphere where afterwards the beach remains a working space the back of which is shopping a la High St Ken/Christopher's Place.
Her duck confit cassoulet was excellent; his beef stew not as good as what she makes indoors (sear the cube steak cuts first?) but very fine. We dined twice ... Mrs Fish and Chips were grand, my scallops were fine. Sticky Toffee pudding as good as Rules but I prefer custard to clotted cream (or a choice?)
Good restaurant ... Jay should visit.

Ash Smoked Fishes
Crag Path, AldeburghAbsolutely delicious! It was so hard to choose. I had the Cold Smoked Salmon with cream cheese on a wholemeal roll for lunch and it was absolutely outstanding. Took a Noon Pie home to share with family, we loved it. Wish we lived closer (or they delivered their smoked fish). Would return and highly recommend.

Fishers Gin
Crag Path, AldeburghWe booked this as a last-minute tour, and we are so glad we did. Not only did we learn about the Gin, but also some of the history of the surrounding area. The team were very friendly and happy to answer all questions. The tour started with an informative video explaining a bit about the area and how botanicals are harvested locally for the Gins. We learned about how the botanicals work to enhance and flavour the Gin. Obviously, the best bit was the tasting. We loved all three that we sampled, as well as the cocktails. I have to admit that the smoked Gin was the best I had ever tasted.

171 High St, AldeburghI came to Aldeburgh specifically for a good fish dinner and found it here, simply but perfectly cooked, buttery samphire and mussel sauce, new potatoes. Perfect.

They were v busy but we were able to get a table outside, we had a drink and the food arrived well before the estimated hours wait . Food was excellent, the belly pork was the most tender I've ever eaten and the tofu delicious. Well recommended, and we'll be back on our next trip

The Railway Inn

Came here during my holiday and I was very happy with the kind service and pleasent atmosphere. The place looks lovely and well kept. Ever the bathroom was nice, it's not normal for there to be free stocked up sanitary pads and tampons as well as perfume. Very thoughtful.
We spent a good amount of time playing darts inside and cards outside in the very well decorated beer garden. There is also a pool table here, which is the best asset to have in a pub.
I'm very happy to come back again.

I recently stayed at The Cross Keys in Aldeburgh, and it was an absolute gem! Nestled right in the heart of this charming seaside town, the hotel offers the perfect blend of coastal character, comfort, and hospitality.
From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth and genuine friendliness by the staff. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is relaxed, inviting, and beautifully reflective of Aldeburgh’s coastal charm.
The room was clean, stylish, and thoughtfully decorated with modern touches while still keeping that traditional feel. The bed was super comfortable, and I slept like a dream. The little details—from the quality linens to the well-stocked refreshments—made the stay feel extra special.
Downstairs, the pub and dining area are cosy and full of character. The food was a real highlight—delicious, freshly prepared, and full of local flavour. Whether it was breakfast, dinner, or just a coffee in the morning, everything was served with a smile.
The location is unbeatable—just a short walk to the beach, high street shops, and all that Aldeburgh has to offer. It’s the perfect base whether you're exploring the Suffolk coast or just looking for a peaceful getaway.
Overall, Cross Keys is a true coastal retreat. I left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and already planning my next visit. Highly recommended!

222 High St, AldeburghVery much the locals local pub on the Aldburgh sea front, doesn't do food but the chippies next door and the pub allows customers to eat chips on their premises (they also have a Pizza hut outside the pub), very decent pint of Adnams and nice chilled atmosphere.

The Chocolate Teapot

The food is very nice but on both times we have been there the service is too slow given that there weren't many customers. It won't stop us visiting again but it won't be often and definitely not if it is busy. Pity really.

146 High St, AldeburghThe food was fantastic and the service was faultless. The staff were very accommodating and were lovely with the kids. Highly recommend this place for family dinners. My 7 year old particularly enjoyed playing rock, paper, scissors to win a free dessert.
