Ignore the bad reviews (they’re very old and the place has possibly changed management!). I’ve been coming here since moving to Clare in March and it is lovely. Really nice fresh, crispy fish, perfectly cooked chips and quick service. I recommend the breaded mushrooms too.
I live in the mountains of northern Spain and there is one thing that I miss above all and that's a good fish and chips. When I come back to visit family in Essex my first port of call is a chippy.This time I've struck gold.The Claire chip shop has the best home made chips I've had in years and the fish is really good too.There's not much more to say other than that I have visited this oasis of deliciousness three times in the last two weekends and I'll most definitely be back...read full review

Popped over whilst staying at landmark trust Ancient House (a brilliant property). Had cod and chips. Lightly battered and cod very soft and tender. Generous portions of chips. Also tasty and not greasy. Place was sparkling clean. Service very friendly. A pleasure to shop there abd we greatly enjoyed our meal.
