The Snug Restaurant & WOOD-FIRED PIZZERIA
High St, Caerleon, NewportMy family happened upon this restaurant today at lunch time, and I'm so glad we took a chance on the little handwritten 'Pizza' sign outside. We stepped in and were blown away by the atmosphere and attentive staff. The pizza was delicious, hot and quick. Excellent cakes and treats on offer. Next time we'll be planning our visit to Caerleon around eating here!

coffiology
29 High St, Caerleon, NewportWe were looking for a place to stop for lunch and a coffee when we came across this cafe which is super close to the Roman museum.
The staff were absolutely lovely and welcoming, all smiles! Great atmosphere and delicious looking food.
I got the avocado smash with halloumi and an oat iced matcha, both were great! I thought it was fairly priced, especially after seeing the generous amount of halloumi I was given!
Very happy finding places like this that cater well to different dietary requirements

The Bell Inn
Bulmore Rd, Caerleon, NewportLovely traditional pub with dining options, log fire, local ales and ciders. Not an extensive menu but great food, excellent service, nice atmosphere
Recommend the scotch egg, mushrooms and slow cooked beef.
Updated 08/12/25. Ate here from the festive menu, not such a good experience. My slow cooked beef came with a piece of cling film in it. The waiting staff didn't deal with it despite being told twice. My friend had the ribeye streak which was tasty but very thin. Dessert was good, as was the beer, but overall the meal was disappointing for the price.

The Red Lion
Backhall St, Caerleon, NewportMothers day lunch... can only be described as HORRIBLE!.... The cravy was acrid and left a nasty taste in the mouth for the rest of the day. It taster of burnt garlic and burnt smoked paprika which tainted all of the main course. 9 of us on our table all agreed and the large group on the next table to us were saying the same. Also, all of the veg and potatoes were hard. The chef wouldn't come out of the kitchen. The waitress told us that the.chef said there was nothing wrong with the grave and what we were tasting was the meat juice. With more that 1000 years of eating experience between the 2 tables, we were wrong but the slop jockey was right.

Ponthir House Inn
Ponthir, NewportGot food from a food truck, it was nice, the beer was cold and the outdoor seating was plentiful. I visited during a Country Music day, everyone was dressed up in Stetsons and cowboy boots, so I must have looked well out of place in my cycling gear.

Nannie Ritas Cafe
Star Trading Estate, Ponthir, NewportGorgeous selection for Mother's Day, we had a box 2 and a box 3 both of which contained a variety of full sized (large!) slices of cake, brownies, blondies, flapjacks and other treats including Welsh cakes. We took them over to my parent's house for a combined belated birthday and mother's day lunch, adding some sandwiches and other savouries. The cakes were the perfect accompaniment with leftovers for Mum and Dad to finish over the next few days.

Ye Olde Bull Inn
High St, Caerleon, NewportYe Olde Bull Inn in Caerleon is a beautiful historic pub with roots dating back to the 15th century. Once thought to have served as the priory’s bakery and kitchen, the building still holds traces of medieval and even Roman architecture, with original beams, Perpendicular-style windows, and vaulted cellars that whisper stories of the past.
Sitting outside in the heart of this historic town, in comfortable chairs under the charm of centuries-old walls, was a real pleasure. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. Everything was spotless and well looked after. We had a truly lovely time and would happily return — it’s a perfect place to soak in history and relax with good food and great service.

The Celtic Manor Resort
Coldra Wood, The Usk Valley, Chepstow Rd, NewportI very much enjoy my visits to The Celtic Manor. Only a 30 minute drive from me, we often go with friends for meals. I have frequented, The Olive Tree & Garden Room, The Grill and Rafters. The food I've experienced has always been excellent, even outstanding. The hotel itself is an enjoyable place to visit, clean, tidy, very well maintained and beautifully presented grounds. As for the staff..... I am astounded at the level of service. You could take any member of staff and place them in The Savoy or Claridge's, that's how good they are. Approachable, immaculately presented, informative if you have any queries, polite, friendly, professional in every aspect. You should all be very proud of yourselves.
