Restaurants in Monmouth

The Pig & Apple
Upper Meend Farm, MonmouthWhat a find! Friendly, helpful staff who had noted at the time of booking that a birthday was being celebrated and offered a complimentary drink. The food was delicious and well priced. Great ambiance and dog friendly too. It’s the attention to detail and positive attitude that sets this establishment apart from others. Little things count and mean so much. We will be back!

The Castle Inn
7 Twyn Square, UskVisited this gem of a fund twice this weekend whilst visiting the area. On the first visit I had their absolutely delicious gnocchi (only regret was not asking for a little bit of bread to mop up the last of the sauce). The following day I visited with my elderly mother for Sunday Lynch. Again I had an excellent meal, slow road blade of beef with all the trimmings. As a bonus it was nice to see my mum take down one of the local bar flies in a piece of very good natured banter, much to the amusement of his mates.

The Castle Inn
Zion St, Ebbw Valewe went tonight for my husbands 60th birthday. the chicken skewers were undercooked ( starter) steak pie was a plate full of gravy with meat and 2 lumps of cheese hidden under a pastry top.vegetables were soggy and cold and chips burnt. the castle burger was brick like, with no pulled pork within it served with a small portion of burnt chips. the other meals were equally horrendous which was annoying as we had waited 1 1/2 hours. We asked for the desert menu and was provided with 1 menu for 8 people. After waiting a further 30 minutes for service we decided to cancel and ask for the bill and were told the machine wasn't working. I manually worked out the bill and paid. We were not alone with the disappointment and definitely will not return anytime soon. So many better places to eat locally.

The Whitebrook
MonmouthThe food here is excellent , beautifully presented and prepared using many locally sourced and foraged ingredients. If you are not staying then it is in a lovely but quite remote area. The food understandably takes some time to prepare each course however you have a lot of time between courses in a rather uninspiring, quiet room with little atmosphere.

80-82 Monnow St, MonmouthDog friendly cafe with a variety of seating options (normal tables and chairs, sofas, armchairs), the coffee was good but the food was average and the selection of vegetarian options was limited. Very busy on a Saturday. Only one toilet for the whole establishment.

Full House
Market Hall, Priory St, MonmouthSunday 16th June 24. Walking up to the full house following the beautiful smells, Ordered Singapore fried rice, spring rolls Kung po sauce and prawn crackers. The lady who took my order was very polite very cool calm and seemed very well organised.
The waiting area was very clean and reasonably comfortable. Plenty of customers coming and going. And after sampling the food I ordered I can see why they are so busy. Everything was cooked to perfection and was super mouth watering tasty. 5 stars all the way. I will be going back for more, and I would highly recommend it to others.

The Robin Hood Inn
124 Monnow St, MonmouthThe people at this pub are the nicest people you will meet while traveling in wales. We were lost trying to find a cab to take us to our residence that was outside of monmouth. We were in the pub for a few drinks and asked them if the could help us out finding a cab. There was no one willing to drive us because they had already finished their shifts (this was around 4pm ?). As it would have taken us 2h on foot with all our luggage, one of the owners was soooo kind to drive us himself. We could not believe our luck. We want to thank him again for helping us out in such a big way. We hope to visit again some day ? all the best of luck to the future of the nicest pub in wales.

Yummies Pizza
1, The Albion, Cinderhill St, MonmouthAn absolutely fantastic place to order from! While it may be on the pricier side, we consistently relish every item we order. The extra cost is truly justified, and I'm never left feeling dissatisfied.Their additional pizza crust options are also a delightful bonus. It might not be kind to my waistline, but you can't beat the cheesy bite crust! Many thanks for the wonderful pizzas :)

Monnow Bridge Fish and Chips
Monnow Bridge Fish Bar, 123 Monnow St, MonmouthWe sat in the restaurant, it's clean , comfortable and warm. Ventilation prehaps isn't the best, so had the large folding doors into the garden not been open. I think it would have been a tad smelly ( past the normally chippy smell before someone says that )
The garden is great and has several tables with umbrellas in an enclosed area.
Toilets are clean and well maintained.
Food across the board looked good, I wasn't a fan of my haddock in beer batter so would choose something else next time like the scampi which a friend had and it was good or the chicken stripes which where great too.
The staff here are absolutely brilliant so helpful and friendly we were a large group and they dealt with us well, it was also busy either other groups. One of the staff members' family members, maybe the daughter, was helping out and was so excited to be doing so and was doing a great job, well done to them.
In all a great chippy and would recommend
Thank you to all the staff on a hot and busy night
