Lake Country House Hotel & Spa
Llangammarch Wells, Builth, PowysThe food is some of the best in Wales if not the UK, the accommodation the same. Everyone seemed delighted with the venue. The AV screen worked and with ease and it’s the first time we have ever been able to get an effective and reliable projection system for our talks at a venue in Wales. The staff were polite, effective and efficient throughout. The whole hotel runs the way a hotel should if you want to have an enjoyable weekend. We will definitely be back again.

Black Lion Inn
Derwenlas, MachynllethWe came here to celebrate a birthday and a wedding anniversary. As soon as we had arrived we were seated in front of a lovely warm fire. Our drinks order was taken and wasn’t long at our table. As we had already pre ordered our meal as there was 14 of us, our food wasn’t long on our tables. It was hot, very tasty and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Our starters were varied and we all loved what we had. Pate very tasty with warm bread and served with a delicious onion chutney. \nPrawn cocktail looked great with a generous amount of prawns. \nMains were varied from Lasagne, mixed grill - steak and gammon. All cooked to everybody’s preference and plenty of it. Each one of us said we would be back. Atmosphere was pleasant and friendly with Christmas decorations making the place looked seasonal and homely. \nThankyou very much to the chefs, and staff for making us feel at home and making our night very special

Ynyshir Restaurant and Rooms
Ynyshir Restaurant and Rooms, Eglwys Fach, MachynllethAfter seeing Gareth Ward many a time on James Martin over the years and following his venture online for years and years I decided to book this for my husbands Christmas present after we had a bit of a tough Christmas. The booking process was really easy and we were really looking forward to it. Ironically, my husband bought me a gift, to see James Martin a few weeks before we were due to come here. Throughout the whole meal with James Martin, all he could speak about was how much he loved Gareth Ward and how everyone needed to go to his restaurant so we were even more excited to come. With establishments that have such a large following and everyone singing praises - you do sometimes wonder if it will let you down when you get there because the expectations are so high. I have to say, I am an extremely picky person when it comes to detail, in fact I am extremely obsessed with minor details - and this place is faultless. The small number of negative reviews for me show nothing but a lack of appreciation for skill, detail and talent which unfortunately is becoming the way of the world… but there are still people out there who appreciate it and those are the people who should come here. If we were ignoring the exceptional food, Gareth deserves an award alone for his insanely high standards of minor details. Hand carved wooden chopsticks engraved with their logo that take around a month to make one pair. All the intricate metal wear handmade on site, it’s incredible. The salt chamber is absolutely stunning, this is somewhere for people who appreciate the time and effort involved in curating detail in every single moment. Gareth spends his WHOLE time in the kitchen - which I honestly found so incredible. This isn’t “the Gareth Ward show” or a “meet and greet” is actually Gareth Ward cooking the meals, he doesn’t move from that kitchen and you can see all the effort he’s putting into the dishes with his amazing team. What really sold it for us, was the real sense of family and friendship between the team. During the night, Gareth’s child came to say good night to him before bed - having children myself, I found this moment so heartwarming. It made us feel like nothing came before him saying goodnight to his child - and rightly so. It was probably one of my favourite moments of the evening as it showed, he’s just a dad.. doing his job. But what we found incredibly interesting is, in this age, you can pay people to say your restaurant is great but you cannot pay people to come to work and speak so highly of you. The people around him adore him and adore working there, one gentleman Luke who served us, said it was a dream come true and you could honestly see how much he truly, truly loved his job. He explained to us also that everyone who has an apron on, is also a chef. The DJ was telling us how this was also his dream job after working for 30 years on the music scene and he was a really, really good DJ. Playing ONLY vinyl another showcase of pure raw talent that’s fading and often unappreciated in today’s society it echos Gareth’s high standards and refusal to settle for anything but exceptional quality. Sophie & Eva were also both so passionate and I really hope one day, the chefs here have their own restaurants because if the world had more restaurants like this, where true craftsmanship and dedication is on display and the staff actually REALLY want to be there - it would be a better place!
PS.. might as well add, although it goes without saying - the food is exceptional and the same level of detail is put into the food. We thought the 30 courses flowed perfectly and there was the perfect gap in between. I actually went to another Michelin star restaurant the night before which has been somewhat disappointing in terms of experience and food. But to add, it took them almost the exact same time to serve 6 courses as it took Gareth & his team to serve 30 much preferred the pace at Ynyshir. Hotel rooms are stunning & gorgeous also.

Drovers
New Row, Howey, Llandrindod WellsI really enjoyed supper at this local restaurant. The Thai flavours were all beautifully balanced. I had thai spring rolls for starter and panang curry with noodles. The curry was delicious coconut milk kaffir lime leaves , galangal, lemongrass and many other ingredients came together to make a really tasty dish. All washed down with thai lager. Ked the lovely lady who served us is owner waitress and chef and so we had her full attention. It was busy but we never felt neglected. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed ambience . We are lucky to have such a restaurant locally and food that is cooked with love. We are already planning another visit.

Cross Keys Dinas Powis
Elm Grove Rd, Dinas PowysAn Absolutely Perfect Sunday Roast! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had a truly wonderful experience enjoying the Lamb Sunday roast, and honestly, every single element was perfection. The lamb was cooked beautifully, and all the vegetables were done to perfection. The Yorkshire puddings were magnificent and full of flavor, as were the roast potatoes, crispy on the outside and fluffy within.
Beyond the incredible food, the staff were amazing – so friendly and attentive, making it a genuinely family-friendly atmosphere. We felt so welcome and comfortable.
This is undoubtedly one of the best Sunday roasts we've had. Highly, highly recommend!
