I dont want to say this place wasnt very good, but it wasnt really. Went in because the downstairs bakery and posters all looked delicious and we wanted a sit-in light lunch. The upstairs was so old fashioned it was abit of a surprise, no atmosphere. We had a really nice welcome from a helpful lady. To be fair we didnt take much notice of the pricing at that point. Brilliant as always and a warm welcome from the lovely ladies who have worked there for so long. For those posting negative reviews I say this: The Sloping Deck is fabulous. If you want pretentious food and drink please don’t spoil this experience for the rest of us.

Terrible coffee from a bygone era. tasted somewhat like the coffee we used to have out of a machine in our staff canteen in the 1980s. Sausage roll was flaccid and limp and anaemic and a bit like the one you get at a league 1 football ground - OK at half time but not in a supposedly landmark bakery in Dartmouth. To give the place a bit of a break the bakewell tart my Mother had was according to Mum 'very good'.
