First time along this walk, walked from Rowlands Gill to Shotley Bridge and called in on the return journey to “give the dog a rest.”Found ourselves having beer and lunch, with sausages for the dog.Really made our day. Great food with fab vegetarian options, friendly staff, great beer.10/10.

This is a Traditional no frills pub close to the Derwent walk. Great for people out walking, as you don't have to worry about wet muddy footwear and clothes. I sat next to the real coal fire, which on a chilly day was lovely. Dogs are made to feel welcome and are offered bowls of water. The choice of food seemed limitless, I had the Bubble and Squeak. The food was OK, though this was not what I would describe as over whealming in terms of welcome, there was not much chance in getting caught up in conversation, though the chef singing Bohemian Rhapsody in the kitchen was a highlight. Decent value for money, above average food.
