The Dacre Arms
63 Main St, Brandesburton, DriffieldIn my occasional series of (mostly) East Riding roasts. Today we have the Dacre Arms.
The Dacre Arms is tucked away in the village of Brandesburton with a biggish car park to the rear.
As we are in the East Riding, portions are large and this will be relevant soon.
Inside, the pub has a nice bar with lots of choice of beer, lager, cider as well as a good selection of non-alcoholic choices. We set up a tab for the drinks and food, which was handy.
Food is ordered separately away from the bar which is also handy so you don't end up waiting for ages to get served.
There is a specials board with roast meats for that day, starters and other mains and deserts.
There is a lot of seating and the place was busy with most tables having three bookings for lunch with a two hour gap between sittings.
As is my custom, I skipped starters and went straight for the Sunday Roast. Today's choice was pork or beef so I went with the beef although one of our party had the pork which came with stuffing and crackling.
So I went large (!) and they were not kidding. The plate was literally groaning under the weight.
The meal came with roasties, mash, cauliflower cheese, veg, a Yorkie, some thick slices of beef and loads of gravy. You can also get other sauces and I got the horse raddish which came in a little side dish and it packed a punch, as it should.
The main was great and I especially liked the flavour and depth of the gravy which had been made with the meat juices.
In my picture, I have two Yorkies because one of the party has an egg allergy - more on that in the deserts.
Desert: I was mildly disappointed not to see my go-to favourite sticky toffee pudding on the menu. However, a trip to the specials board changed everything because there it was!
There was a lot of other choice, but I went for the sticky toffee pud because I always do. The pud came with the obligatory toffee sauce and lots of custard. The cake itself contained dates (as it should) and this gave the cake part a great flavour. Served warm, it was absolutely delicious and, for me, the highlight of the whole meal.
As mentioned previously one of the party has an egg allergy and so deserts are normally an issue. However, the Dacre Arms has vegan ice cream and we were able to order that with Strawberry topping so we all got a desert.
Finally, shout out to the staff who were great from start to finish especially with our allergy needs.
Note: Not the best photo from me, but I almost forgot!

Bay Horse
Black Tup Ln, Arnold, HullWent on a recommendation, had not been for years. The staff were lovely, service was very quick and the quality of the food was outstanding.
They have a great range of Gluten free options for meals and deserts too, I got the cajun chicken burger GF and it was gorgeous.
My other half had the steak pie and it was the best he had tried, packed full of tender beef.
We will definitely be returning.

The Micro Pig Bar
Coopers Mdw, HullA lovely little 'mostly-locals' 'bar', with a few (changing and well-kept) real ales, (and many other drinks!), available.
My welcome by both the management, staff and the locals was always excellent each day I visited. They gave me lots of information of local places to visit, and made me feel so welcome, from the start to finish, every day I was there. I got the same vibe that I do in my home town, in Derbyshire; (Hence, I became a temporary regular).
A really friendly little pub! I hope to call in again, as soon as I can...

Hare & Hounds
1 North St, Leven, BeverleyWhat a great welcome & friendly place. Called in by chance & was right at home. Great beer, welcoming staff, a local that feels like a local should. Just a pity there's no food on offer, that would make 5 star.

Gardener's Retreat & Coffee Haven
Hornsea Rd, Sigglesthorne, HullAfter you've traipsed around all the delightful Christmas displays and worn yourself out getting a Sunday carvery is the best end to a day at the garden centre. Be prepared to wait a loooong time to be served when it's busy, be prepared to wait a long time in the all you can eat carvery line as greedy people pile their plates up high and then be prepared when the pigs in blankets run out as well as the pork option of meat... We paid an extra £2 each for the pigs, and when my dining partner went to go get her meal the guy serving two people in front of her gave them away for free and then she didn't get any! I opted for pork, because I don't like beef or turkey, they ran out and when I asked for the vegetarian option it was basically just a bigger plate for more veg and an extra Yorkshire pudding ?
Anyway for the price and the portion I wasn't expecting Michelin quality, it's good homemade food and I will obviously be going back again!
