I'm a big fan of the £10.50 pizza+drink lunch deal, and am wont to drag people along on the slightest pretext. Most recently I visited with my friend Alys, further to our last chazzer shop shift prior to her jetting off to NZ for a while. In attendance also was my dog Lily – and all of us were handsomely catered for. \nThe pizzas, as always, were excellent: Alys had the veggie one, and I had one with pulled pork, at least if I remember correctly; it was lovely, anyway. Moreover, the warm and friendly hostess was pleasingly flexible with regard to drinks; Alys, unenthused by any of the deal options, was cheerfully permitted to have coffee instead (big deal, you might think, but I always appreciate a lack of tight-arsèdness; I still have vivid memories of a Bristolian pasta restaurant where, innocently asking for spaghetti instead of tagliatelle with a particular dish, I was told that the chef didn't like people "mixing stuff up").\nOf all thing most delightful, though, was the welcome extended to Lily: not only was she greeted with biscuits but, without any prompting from us, was provided with a little bowl of chicken breast, so she wouldn't be too jealous of us pizza-eaters!\nI shall be back, with or without canine company.

MADRASI'S Taste of South India

In my opinion you can judge an Indian restaurant pretty accurately on the quality of their onion bhaji. Madrasi's has a great onion bhaji, and the rest of their food is brilliant, too. Their sauces and breads are lovely. My wife loves their dosas. I have had better paneer, but everything else that goes with it more than makes up for it.

The service is absolutely excellent as well.

Hands down the best Sri Lankan restaurant I’ve been to! As a Sri Lankan myself, I can say the food here is incredibly authentic and full of flavour. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to experience true Sri Lankan cuisine. I tried the chicken kottu, which is one of my personal favourites, and it was an absolute 10/10. Highly recommend!

It is simply a delight from the beginning of the booking until the end of our meal. All the staff put so much love into their job, even writing an anniversary card was so lovely. I felt a bit nervous as my first dinner was hard to finish after dish number 6, however this time I chose a smaller lunch menu and ate half the bread instead and shared 2 extras and that was more manageable! I loved it so much that I am already considering another meal. I still remember some delicious rasperry sorbet from end of 2019. This time I loved the duck egg, soup, steak, snacks and the dessert, also scallop was lush! Very well done team Etch xxx

My first visit to MZ and it won’t be my last! A friend recommended it and so I popped in last Wednesday to look at their menu as I was passing. The lovely chef said we don’t have paper ones but take a restaurant one and bring it back when you come in! Stopped by yesterday and was greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable guy(the owner or manager?)who took my order for a pizza with broccoli and Italian pork and fennel sausage. He was really nice, and very enthusiastic about a new dough method he was trialling, I watched our pizza being made and when we had it a couple of hours later it was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced for such quality ingredients. Will definitely be back, the difference in this and other pizza places was astonishing.

Hi on 28th July a friend and I were recommended and treated to visit this Restaurant for a Turkish meal I had never eaten Turkish food but my friend had done so many times actually in Turkey. I found the food was absolutely Wonderful and my friend also did. We must also praise the staff there again they were so genuinely pleased to greet us and really attentive but not to the extent of crowding us, the whole ambiance of the restaurant felt so relaxed and inviting. Well, without exaggeration the best curry I’ve had on the south coast, by long long mile, quite simply superb..
Cooked with love, plenty of that, oh yes.
The gravy for the curry was on another level, it really was. I was fortunate enough to speak to the inspiring chef who kindly explained that his superb gravy/sauce for all his curries are cooked for at least 4 yes 4 days before finally serving.
That is a serious rarity in the Uk, it’s serious bit of cooking and the chef knows what he’s doing.
The rice was excellent, tenderised beef that just melted in the mouth, incredible beef which incidentally the chef gave me the heads up with his butchers he’s got which is just literally 1 minute away from the Freemasons up farm road..
Now the Roti’s. My word, again without exaggeration the best Roti’s I’ve had outside of India, honestly you got to try them, so so good, mar it together with the curry, outstanding.
You’d be a fool if you didn’t try the food in the Freemasons, you will not be disappointed, I swear!
If you live in Brighton or are just visiting, you must visit this place.
Real English pub, with an 80/90’s vibe, real honest people, brilliant staff, always have good music playing, food is simply on another level, what is simply not to like.
Just go, don’t miss out because in Brighton and all along the south coast the food is of pretty poor standard and way way to pricey, the Freemasons is a no brainier, enjoy..

What a wonderful dining experience. This is a beautiful bar & restaurant, small but perfect, with glorious welcoming staff & fabulous decor (those green tiles are magnificent). We sat at the bar & had a birds eye view of the passion these chefs had, in preparing & producing stunning food. We had to choose a few small plates….it was a struggle-we wanted to try everything! The goats cheese churros were extraordinary-dipped in honey-heavenly. In fact, every single mouthful was sheer delight. Thank you so much to all concerned-we will be back!

The Little Fish Market

Firstly the good stuff: the food was outstanding with several dishes having a genuine wow factor. Both the chef and the waitress were friendly and took the time to explain the dishes and the wine pairings. The wine was great too. \n\nThe less good stuff: we don’t know if they were having an off night but having been asked to arrive 18.45 with everyone else, we waited ~45 mins for the first course to arrive. As we were having the wine pairing we thought we could skip having a drink while we wait as we didn’t think it would be that long. I think if we had been told to expect that long to wait we might have ordered a drink. \n\nWe were surprised that there was only one front of house staff. She was very friendly and did a decent job in the circumstances but it really felt like she was doing a job for two people. She was so busy having to do the bare minimum of bringing everyone’s dishes and wine pairings that she would not have time to deal with any other requests the guests might have. This was especially an issue at the end of the evening when we waited again ~45 mins for the bill since she had to do all 9-10 tables one by one. Not helped by the fact that the bills were hand written.\n\nWe also echo some of the other reviews on here that the restaurant lacked atmosphere. I can see what they are trying to do but it all felt a little too bright in there. \n\nIn conclusion: amazing food, but, for the money we would expect better service. Not that the only waitress was bad but she had far too much to do.

Just perfect. If you want creatively produced plant-based food at its absolute best, this is it. Each dish not only imaginatively presented but full of different tastes. Lots of choice and we went for a selection of dishes which we shared. We managed a dessert - despite being full - well, because they looked to good to bypass. All washed down with delicious glass of wine and followed by hot steaming coffee . Service throughout helpful and with a smile. Can't recommend Botanique enough. Note, this visit was for a birthday celebration for our carnivore sister..... and she chose the venue as it's one o f her favourites.

We ate here whilst staying with relatives around the corner and it was some of the best fish and chips we have ever had (and we live near the home of fish and chips in Whitby)
It is all cooked fresh when you go in and everything was lovely and crisp and fresh with no oiliness or soggy batter.

The couple in there were also very friendly and made us feel extremely welcome.

Much like the another review, visited when we moved to the area in 2016, not believing it could be that bad... and it really was!Luckily the old rude owner has gone and the new people have changed this place for the better. Very friendly service and quick preparation. Food wasn't incredible, but was certainly better than average. Portion size was okay, particularly the sweet and sour sauce which was the biggest I've ever seen from a takeaway. Free prawn crackers were much appreciated too.Slightly annoyingly they still only take cash (which I thought was just the previous owner being stingy), even though there's an ATM next door, it's still a bit outdated and frustrating.Only other feedback is while it's great the food comes in metal containers rather than plastic tubs, it'd be great if they could go the whole way and use cardboard lids instead of the wasteful plastic ones.

I have been to the Better Half Pub a few times for food always had a great meal and service. \n\nBecause of having some special memories here we decided to book the pub to celebrate my husband's life after his funeral service. \n\nSimon was very helpful, always super quick to respond and answered all of my questions. They even closed the pub to the public for a few hours which was an extra special touch while we all gathered to share stories and enjoy the food prepared for us. \n\nThey also allowed us to play our own music to make it even more personal. \n\nWe were able to make a few small changes to the buffet options (halloumi sticks were extremely popular!) and there was more than enough food for everyone. \n\nThank you so much to Simon and the team at The Better Half Pub for your help with everything during a difficult time.

I was lucky enough to go here for my birthday yesterday and I literally cannot recommend it enough. Just utterly brilliant from start to finish. The food is simply incredible… I’ll be dreaming of the Ox Donuts for a long time to come!!! Every single dish was just perfect. The deserts were HUGE and entirely unnecessary after such a big meal but I’m so glad I did. The service was impeccable, the music on point and the decor wonderful!!! Do yourself a favour and just go!

I went and picked up my drinks and was asked if I wanted whipped cream on top. I casually said it was my friends birthday so why not. The staff picked up on that and mad the drinks extra special. They really went out of their way.

We tried the Sunday roast, a classic English dish. Very good! It's a shame that the kids can no longer stay in the restaurant after 8.30pm because it becomes a pub and therefore they have to go out due to English laws. Nothing bad but write it on the site... we had to eat in 1 hour (for this 4 star service).

Le Pub (The Paris House)

We discovered Le Pub when we went to Brighton a few weeks ago for a music festival. The two guys behind the bar were awesome and gave great service! We recently went back and again great service by a lovely woman HOWEVER the bar itself was a sauna!!!! It was only 67F or 19C and we were dripping sweat inside. There’s clearly two broken AC’s and we were told they’ve been broken for years! The owner keeps making excuses not to fix or replace them and I think that’s a real shame. If you fixed the AC’s I guarantee you’d have more guests, happier employees and generate more money to cover the costs!

I always have oxtail with rice and peas, coleslaw and plantain, but I've tried everything and its all equally as good. I've even bumped into people, who I've recommended it to, bringing other people here to recommend it to them!

Fantastic Japenese food in an amazing cafe. We went in at lunchtime and ordered a bit of everything, and would happily do so again. The chicken katsui was perfect, the croquettes and dumplings were also amazing and I've never had rice balls like that in the UK. The Matcha crepe cake was also outstanding. Will hopefully be coming back regularly! Don't be fooled by the location, Cafe An-an is brilliant and should definitely be on your list of places to eat wherever you live!

We often go to rustico and get takeaway from them too. We went last Friday when the had a great kids eat free offer. We had three quite rambunctious kids and Ryan in particular was great with them. Not only patient, but positively encouraging them, joking around - my kids came out saying it was the best fun they’d had for ages. I love the rusticotti too - small pizzas for people who don’t want to eat a full size pizza. My girls love their pasta and meatballs too!

Best place in Hove for an English Breakfast!I have been coming here sporadically since 2016 and everytime I come, it gets better and better!The staff are incredible, kind and funny. The portions are super large! Very amazing value for money. The vibe in here is very chilled, and the decor is brilliant. It's a nice clean place, and of course the food is brilliant and yummy!! So hard to leave anything, even when you are already full!Vegetarian options: There's great vegetarian options and things can be swapped out to suit. Eg. I swapped out eggs for veggie sausages.Parking: Lots of free parking on the side streets. Have always loved this pub- it used to be my local so been here many, many a time. First visit back for a few years after friends recently recommended the roast and by god it didn't disappoint. They got three very important things just right- lots of vegetables, big crispy roast potatoes, and enough gravy. Great staff and lovely chilled atmosphere, we will be back!

Gorgeous little Italian restaurant just round the corner from our house. We absolutely love Amici. The food is affordable and really tasty and the service is always incredible. It is a cosy small restaurant with lovely staff and a great atmosphere. The food is always tasty, good sized portions, quick service, always comes out hot. My favourite dish has to be the nduja pasta with mascarpone, it usually varies in spice level depending who is cooking it in the kitchen but it is always delicious. We love coming here for an easy dinner with friends and family. Highly recommend.

We were beautifully welcomed-& looked after-as soon as we walked into this small, intimate restaurant, guided through a lovely menu & told the food was Equadorian with an Indian twist. Exciting! And the food was wonderful-plenty of choice for every kind of palate-preceded by glorious cocktails. And we were told the food came out when it was ready….which is all very well, but made the meal as a whole, a little disjointed. So a tiny bit disappointing, but the evening was still a fun one.
