I was visiting Great Dunmow and I read Evan's review and said to myself "I would like to experience a real pub for a change as these boozers are a dying breed and hard to come by as most pretend wannabe pubs are pretentious". I didn't go for food and went for a nice beer, game of pool with the Mrs. Hell they have a dartboard. Love, the beer garden by the way. Depends on what you want, of course, but on the way back from visiting my brother, I was keen to find a traditional Essex pub. My colleague who is a highly critical person dismissed 2 other pubs and a hotel before we found The Chequers Inn!! Warm welcome, good beer and comfortable. Pretty much everything I was looking for to break up a long journey.
