Lyaness

20 Upper Ground, London

As cocktail bar experiences go, this is one to have. Located within the Sea Containers London Hotel alongside the Thames in South Bank, the view inside and out is beautiful. The cocktails are expensive, £17+, but imaginative, scientific, pretty, and really good. Intricate notes and textures created in their actual lab! Bartenders are fun to watch and happy to make suggestions. I'll visit again when next in London but it wouldn't be my regular hang, cuz I can't afford it. But I'm happy I've been there.

The Southwark Tavern

22 Southwark St, Greater, London

I recently visited Southwark Tavern and had a fantastic experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot to unwind. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring we felt well taken care of throughout our meal.

The menu offered a great variety of options, and everything we ordered was delicious. The highlight for me was the beautifully cooked fish and chips—crispy batter and perfectly flaky fish. The selection of craft beers was also impressive, complementing our meal perfectly.

The pub's charming decor adds to its character, and it’s a great place for both casual dining and special occasions. Overall, Southwark Tavern exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!

New Year’s Eve: Good Food, Poor Organisation

We chose to spend New Year’s Eve at this restaurant despite being undecided, as reviews were mixed. Ultimately, we went ahead mainly for the convenience and the views.

The set menu was priced at £200 per person and included a cheese and charcuterie board as a pre-starter, followed by a starter, main course, dessert, and one glass of Prosecco. We were required to select our menu choices more than a week in advance; however, the dishes served on the night differed slightly from the options we had originally been given.

On the day of the event, I received a call from the restaurant asking me to collect wristbands that they believed they had already emailed me about—which they had not. They then said they would email us tickets to access the South Bank area, but failed to explain which route we should take. With many roads closed due to New Year’s Eve restrictions, even the police and event staff in the area were unsure where we were supposed to go. As a result, our family ended up walking for 1 hour and 40 minutes for what should have been a 30-minute journey. My parents are 70 years old, which made this especially frustrating and exhausting.

Once inside the restaurant, the experience was much more positive. Service was attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxed but lively, with a good buzz—mostly families celebrating New Year’s Eve together. There was a DJ playing throughout the evening, and at one point both guests and some of the waiting staff even started dancing, which added a fun and festive touch.

The food was simple but tasty. I had the cooked smoked salmon with whipped feta as a starter, vegetarian pasta for the main, and a chocolate tart for dessert. All dishes were well executed, and the pasta in particular tasted fresh and well prepared.

Wines, cocktails, and champagne were reasonably priced for the occasion. However, the cocktails were average at best and appeared to be poured from a tap, which was disappointing at this price point.

Our waiter was good overall, although some items were left on the table for longer than they should have been before being cleared.

We also stepped out onto the terrace for the fireworks. The views were good and, importantly, there were no crowds, which made the experience more comfortable. That said, the vantage point is partially obstructed by a bridge, so we could not see the full London Eye or the Houses of Parliament.

In summary, while the food, atmosphere, and in-restaurant service were solid—and the fireworks experience was pleasant—the poor organisation leading up to the evening significantly impacted the overall experience. For an event of this price and scale, much better communication and planning are essential.

This was my first visit to The Miller, and I stopped by briefly before heading to an appointment. The food was fantastic—particularly the double smash burger with chimichurri and the deep-fried brisket balls.

Both offered excellent value for money, and their flavors were incredible. The bar staff were also very friendly and helpful.

Stopped by with my husband after exploring the nearby Asian market, and we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed the vibe here!

? Atmosphere
The interior has a cool industrial-chic design with thoughtful details and a very photogenic bar area. The colour palette and decor give the space a warm, welcoming feel. It’s surprisingly spacious, with indoor and outdoor seating right by the canal — perfect for sunny days or casual hangouts.

? Drinks
We only had a couple of beers this time — tried the house-brewed IPA and Lager, both were refreshing and smooth. The drinks menu looked extensive, with lots of other options we’d love to try next time.

?️ Food
Didn’t order any food on this visit, but the pizzas on nearby tables looked amazing! Definitely planning to come back for a proper meal.

When it comes to pizza, to me, it's all about the crust and the sauce, and they nail both here. But the great, friendly service and the great beer and atmosphere also make the pizza taste better.

Tap & Bottle

This is my favourite wine bar in “central” London! It’s a little hidden gem just off Borough Market, and I absolutely love it.

The wine list is fantastic, featuring options from both old and new world regions. The staff is super friendly and always eager to help you find your perfect wine match. And the food? Chef's kiss!
They offer delicious toasties, platters, and dips (though the menu might change from time to time).

I know I should probably gatekeep this spot to myself, but honestly, they deserve all the love!
