A wonderfully welcoming spot right in the center of town with a warm fire, delicious beverages (both beers and the coffee is exquisite) and great food. The rooms as cozy and you really feel like the place has been there since the beginning of time. That said, the rooms feel fresh and clean and the beds are comfy. Friendly service. Chic and comfortable accommodation. Perfect for Stroud and surrounding countryside. 5 mins walk from Petersfield station. I'm sorry I was only there for one night.

Called in briefly on Wednesday. Nice drop of beer, friendly barman, and, unusually, pastries for sale on the counter as well as cigars. Tried one of the former (£2.50), which though small, was tasty and quite filling...Food & drinks: Beer was a nice one (can't remember what it was) and the pastry was tasty, although some might have found it a bit too rich and sweet...Noteworthy details: Comfortable, nicely appointed pub with helpful barman.
