The Jackdaw
High St, ConwyWas difficult to balance the Conwy of my childhood holidays, where chips and cream-cakes were in delicious abundance, with the fine dining experience promised by The Jackdaw. But any anxiety that it couldn't live up to expectations were completely forgotten as soon as our excellent host guided us to our table. Sadly his name is lost to me, but his passion, consideration, and breadth of knowledge were worthy of mention here even before we get to the incredible meal he provided us.And what a meal! Nugget is so rarely a pleasant word but the lamb nugget (part of a trio of snacks served first) may just be the greatest single mouthful of food I've ever had. The menu moves through unique interpretations of traditional dishes; Chicken liver parfait and toast, leek and potato soup, salmon, lamb... each course familiar but reimagined, each finely tuned, dressed and accompanied to showboat their strengths, to bring out their very best. The paired wines all really did accentuate the courses they arrived with, the service was impeccable, everything was so perfectly considered and delivered. The showstopping dessert, inspired by the local landscape, was the perfect end to a perfect night. Absolutely no idea how one makes slate mouthwatering, but The Jackdaw manages it.I've been fortunate enough to dine in some of the UK's finest restaurants, and The Jackdaw can stand easily and proudly among them. Conwy has always been a truly special town worthy of a visit, but The Jackdaw ensures that I'll always be looking for an excuse to get back as soon as possible.

Watsons Bistro
26 Chapel St, ConwyDelighted to see a modern brasserie specialising in seafood right in the centre tre of Conwy. These guys really know how to cook - great homemade tartare with the whitebait, perfectly firm green beans and melt-in-the-mouth garlic potatoes with the monkfish. Service was also excellent, and prices very reasonable for this level of quality.

Takeaway Restaurants
Conwy Kebab, Burger & Pizza House
8 Berry St, ConwyWe don't ordinarily buy takeaways, and if we do it's normally Chinese, but as we've got one daughter travelling overseas and one with a part time job in the evenings my wife and I sometimes find ourselves alone at teatime, which is still taking time getting used to after sixteen years of having the kids with us for every meal. As a result we'll now occasionally opt for a takeaway rather than cook for just two of us. Recently my wife, surprisingly, suggested we get a kebab one Friday evening. I hadn't had a kebab for years I happily agreed. We opted for Conwy Kebab despite having another option much closer to home as we'd heard good things about them. We both had a mixed kebab which we both very much enjoyed and found to be both tasty and filling. My only quibble would be that the mixed kebab was quite a bit more expensive that either a donner or chicken kebab would have been so whilst I'd happily make a return visit next time I'll probably go for a chicken kebab and save a few quid.

Alfredos Restaurant
9-10, Lancaster Square, ConwyWe have eaten here quite a few times over the past few years. This time we ate at Alfredo's twice in four days. The menu has changed somewhat since the ownership changed, but we still enjoyed our meals. The Al Pomodoro Bruschetta was very fresh, sirloin steak was good and the vegetables excellent, and so was the pan fried chicken. As a vegetarian I enjoyed the mushroom risotto, although it looked rather soupy the taste was great. I also liked the quattro stagioni pizza. Only the profiteroles disappointed, being very sweet and probably a standard frozen dessert.Service was good and quite fast.Request from a vegetarian: please put blue cheese gnocchi back on the menu!

Parisella’s of Conwy Kiosk
The Ice Cream Kiosk St, Lower Gate St, ConwyVisited the hat trick of outlets. Loved everyone of them. Top quality tasting ice cream ? The smallest house in Great Britain is a stone throw away? Another mixed order of scoops and cones with flavours. The mint I wouldn’t order again but every other flavour was amazing. The luxury vanilla is class. The ferrero rocher was a gorgeous chocolate. My daughter enjoyed her blue banana haha. The whippy simply oozed greatness. Thanks Parisellas for making our North Wales holiday another to remember fondly.

Signatures Restaurant
Aberconwy Resort & Spa, ConwyVery surprising location, on the outskirts of Conwy by the bay. However, once I side it is very smart and welcoming and great team serving you. The menu for lunch had a good choice and it was very difficult to choose what to have. Such lovely, delicious-sounding dishes. And the food was really delicious. Perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and we all are everything on our plates. You feel like you have been somewhere special and very well looked after. Will definitely return ?

Rooms@ Bryn Tyrch
Capel Curig, Betws-y-CoedStayed here with family and friends, 17 in total, mix of adults and kids and we all had a great time. Nice en suite rooms and having your own bar/pub is a real novelty. There are lots of communal spaces that includes a large lounge/ cinema room that we used for a great evening of Karaoke. The kitchen is an ex commercial one that is well kitted out if you like cooking for large groups. The local area is really nice with some lovely walks in all directions. We also paid for a keg of beer which was another novelty and great to have. They are dog friendly, we took our German Shepard and she loved the walks. The owners are really nice. Would recommend..
