Atmospheric and traditional 'Old England' free house, dating back 500 years. Independently owned for decades, a rare gem in this 21st century of on-line noise. Good food, very well priced, and a log fired winter-warm bar; walkers will appreciate. Tuesday's pie night is highly recommended. A varied choice served in stoneware with a light puff pastry topping, chunky chips, and optional side orders. Stopped for dinner whilst moored by the lock. Initially disappointed for it to be our Tuesday. However, the disappointment was very short lived. A great choice of pies and they were delicious. The food was served with beautiful fresh vegetables and lovely chunky chips. We enjoyed it so much so we are hanging around for lunch today before setting off down the canal.

Visited while camping in the area. Had steak and ale pie and chicken breast in a cream garlic and bacon sauce with fresh veg. Absolutely delicious. Generous portion. Would definitely recommend.
