Veggie breakfast, perfect egg, crispy hash brown, tasty sausage, bean, tomatoes and mushrooms. Fab, with toast and coffee. Perfect on a Sat morning. Shame I do not live in the delivery area. Well done Lucy again.

Old Black Horse
Main St, Mapperley, IlkestonWe recently visited The Old Black Horse at Mapperly, and it was absolutely fantastic, with excellent service and a lovely feel to the place.
This is a truly stunning country pub, delivering tasty, high quality food.
It was our first time here for dining, and we had reserved a table in the dog friendly garden room for a birthday meal. If you would prefer to eat away from dogs (why would you though?) the restaurant dining area itself doesn't allow our four legged friends inside.
The pub itself is really beautifully presented with traditional features, and the staff were so incredibly friendly and polite. We felt very welcome.
We thoroughly enjoyed some lovely cider and delicious cold beer. The house wine was great too.
The food was amazing, with generous portions that were both delicious and satisfying, really reflecting high quality. We even treated ourselves to a delicious griddle cookie for desert, which was lovely.
The outdoor spaces are a real highlight. The beautiful, well kept garden is full of stunning flowers, creating a really picturesque, relaxed setting.
There are plenty of seating areas outside, including a very comfortable smoking area with outdoor sofas!
We were particularly impressed by how incredibly dog friendly it is, especially with the pub including a dining area where our furry friends are truly welcome. Our tiny terror loved it!
Will we go back? Most definitely!

Nothing was too much trouble from arranging the marquee, preordering different food for our guests so everyone had what they wanted - all delicious including the carvery that a few of our guests went up for. So attentive tableside, bringing drinks out even though it was a busy Saturday with the inflatables out for the kids. Special mention to Yvonne who was disappointed not to be able to dress up as a Klingon with us. Thank you to all of the team that day for taking such good care of us and putting up with Ryans questions beforehand!! You all made our day thank you xxxxxx

They make lovely cakes, bread, sausage rolls with flakey pastry and shortcrust pastry, savoury rolls and much more. I would recommend a visit any time and there is a large municipal car park just a few steps away.

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a traditional steak pie from Little Elf Kitchen and Cafe on Granby Street Ilkeston, and it didn’t disappoint. The pastry was golden, crisp on the top, and beautifully flaky without being dry or overworked. The real star, though, was the filling – generous chunks of tender beef, slow-cooked until meltingly soft, in a rich but not swimming in, savoury gravy that had real depth of flavour. It struck a perfect balance between seasoning and that comforting, homely feel.
I had the pie with creamy mashed potatoes, buttery peas, and a touch of gravy on the side – a classic combo that elevated the experience. This pie was packed with filling which took the pie from excellent to outstanding.
All in all, a hearty, satisfying dish that delivered on both taste and tradition. I’d happily have this meal again.

The food is delicious , and incredibly fresh , the staff are fantastic , the main gentleman that has served us both times he is awesome , he can’t do enough for his guests , we normal venture to Nottingham for our Indian meals but not anymore , this is our favourite place now . If you have not been before you must give them a try you will not be disappointed!

193 Awsworth Rd, Ilkestonwe recently moved to the area and we both love Chinese food. not knowing anyone to recommend anywhere, we took a chance on Jade Dragon. we've been 3 times now and I feel able to leave an honest review. each time the food has been hot, tasty, and wonderful. I've always ordered something different, the old man gets the same thing everytime. I would really recommend this restaurant/takeaway, I honestly don't think you'll be disappointed (although my brother didn't like the chips!??)

A regular portion is more than enough for 2 and we always have loads left over. Enough to feed another person!The fish portions are great too, and absolutely delicious.The kebab quality was a bit iffy a few years ago. They've really upped their game recently and their kebabs are truly gorgeous now!Unfortunately this has led them to greatly reducing the size of their kebabs. Particularly the Briggs special kebab. This is really small now compared to how it was.I wish they'd offer their chicken curry without having to have it with a portion of rice. I don't go to a chippy for rice. Hopefully the owners will see this and start offering it with chips or on its own. I'm sure it would do really well.Their fried chicken isn't great, so we go to specialist chicken takeaways for that instead.If you're after a great traditional chippy tea of fish and chips Briggs is now the best in town.

Or don't do pies!! Very disappointed in the main courses. Should have had the fish & chips! \nOtherwise everything was lovely.

The only let down was a curry i ordered one time, which just tasted like a mixture of stuff in curry sauce. However, a brilliant establishment with very good service.

Cat and Fiddle Ln, IlkestonVisited on Sunday afternoon with my friend and her dog, extremely dog friendly, we sat in the shade on the lovely terrace area, food was tasty. I even recommended it to another friend who visited today with her mum. She was very happy it is wheelchair friendly as her mum struggles to walk too far.

30 Wood Ln, Horsley Woodhouse, IlkestonMy mum and I went for lunch here on Wednesday. To be honest, we were a bit dubious as we had never been in. We both chose the fish and chips. It was absolutely cooked to perfection! The homemade chips were stunning and the fish was lovely and moist. What topped it off was the tartare sauce which must have been homemade! In terms of facilities , a great place for families with so much to do for the kids. The toilets were spotless ! We are definitely going to come back for more !
