The Market Inn
2 Whitchurch Rd, TavistockThis is a lovely little pub, it's very friendly and welcoming. The food was really good but the chips were absolutely amazing ! ( definetly home cooked!).\nAlthough the choice on the menu wasn't huge what we had was really nicely cooked and we didn't have to wait too long for it.\nWe couldn't have asked for anything better with the staff that were on duty ( forget to get their names ?) but whoever owns this pub they deserve a raise, they were so friendly ?\nAll in all we had a really enjoyable tasty meal - thank you ? will definetly be back sometime.

Taylors
22 Market St, TavistockA friend and I decided to meet at Taylors for lunch today and what a good decision that was!
The restaurant changed ownership recently and it has improved considerably since then. In fact it's now my first choice for morning coffee or lunch in Tavistock.
We both had the sourdough sandwiches and they were delicious and beautifully presented. I decided on the smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich and my friend had the ham, mustard, gherkin and tomato sandwich.
If you're looking for a nice atmosphere in which to have breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner you really can't beat Taylors. The staff are friendly, the seating is comfortable and food is excellent! Thanks to all concerned.
Give it a try and I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Karen's Restaurant
42 Brook St, TavistockWe popped into Tavistock on our way to holiday let and were very amused to see a cafe sharing my name? Lovely to see such a good menu selection with some traditional choices. I had cottage pie, chips and peas, hubby had vegetable sausage baguette with chips, all really delicious and, hurray, a place where food is not served on stone cold plates. Would have loved a dessert but too full. The place was very busy and the two young girls serving were courteous and friendly, advising customers at the door of a wait for food, good to be forewarned. Will definitely return when next in the area.

Costa Coffee
43-44 Brook St, DevonThe food is quite scrum-diddly-umptious but the staff and 'cooks' are really polite and funny. Everything is good but the atmosphere is probably only 6.5/10. Although, it is a great place to go to! I would recommend this to a friend! 4 Stars

Thariks Tandoori
67 West St, TavistockWe live about 20 minutes from Tavistock on Dartmoor where nobody delivers to. We have been a loyal customer to another takeaway for many years, however the quality of their food had gone down so we decided to try another. \n\nWe were not disappointed. The food from Thariks was absolutely delicious. My husband collected the food and commented to me how good the service was. I am very happy with the food quality from Thariks. It is my birthday and I chose to give Thariks a go. We will definitely we back.\n\nThank you Thariks for a lovely birthday meal!

Robertson's Restaurant and Pizzeria
4-8 Pepper St, TavistockAn unassuming pizza based restaurant (although they do other things) we were not sure what to expect. The Cajun chicken pizza was delicious with plenty of chicken, cheese, peppers, and that cajun flavour. Then sticky toffee pudding with ice cream & coffee to follow - yum!! Very genuinely friendly, engaging staff. Highly recommend.

We came in just after 12:00 and were greated warmly and with humour into the bustling and lively cafe, with beautiful scents of delicious food wafting around. Our fellow diners were chatting happily and comfortably in the stylish and welcoming setting.
The staff were genuinely brilliant! We arrived just after the cutoff for breakfast but they were so kind and made a last minute traditional breakfast available, which was fantastic!

The Restaurant At The Bedford Hotel Tavistock
1 Plymouth Rd, TavistockExcellent place for a secret drink in Tavistock. Although slightly pricey, it is open to non residents. Didn't eat there but simply had a sneaky pint and a full on 5 a day Pimms after a trot around the meadows park .Colossal painting of Sir Walter Raleigh and Francis Drake flirting over Queen Elizabeth in the foyer is worth a look.Beer garden at the back is beautiful and great spot for a Cream Tea.Parking: A little tight but just behind is a great garden.

TJ's & LJ's Fish and Chips
36 Brook St, TavistockWe decided upon fish and chips after walking around Tavistock today, Cod was freshly cooked and flakey 'n' crispy as it should be, chips were pretty good too, the medium portions were a good size so we couldn't manage all of our chips, nice friendly staff in the shop. Not the cheapest fish and chips but they were excellent! We all know what fish and chips look like so popped a couple of old buildings in Tavistock up.

The Cornish Arms
15 West St, TavistockThis was an overnight stop with an evening meal and breakfast, from the minute you step into the Cornish Arms you are in a well managed venue.\nParking to the rear of the building had plenty of room to no scratched paint work. The resturaunt menu along with specials wounderfull, I had Devilled Kidneys followed by Braised Ox Cheeks. Our room had a large doubled bed, did not see the wife till next morning. The breakfast did not disappoint, a full Cornish with the best bacon I have ever tasted. Would I recommend this place or keep this information to myself? We will be back, thank you

Hotel Endsleigh
Hotel Endsleigh, Milton Abbot, TavistockWhat an enigma wrapped up in a conundrum the Endsleigh is. The location is delightful and very restful, and the gardens, dell and waterfall make for a lovely stroll next to the river; a perfect way to work up a thirst for drinks back at the house in front of one of the roaring log fires. The house is overwhelmingly dark wood panelled, and a few parts of the public areas are, perhaps, a little tired, though some may mischievously suggest the trend of shabby chic is at play? Staff on front desk are welcoming and helpful with a guide to our room also offering to help with bags. Rooms was nice - very large and comfy bed, garden view and fresh fruit/nuts provided but no tea or coffee making (it can be ordered from the front desk), which given the room prices, felt a little off. Bathroom had only a roll-top bath with hand-held shower head, which was a little disappointing. Ordering drinks in afternoon the library (there is no formal bar), was a little frustrating as it took so long for anyone to take an order. Good selection of spirits and wines, and premium priced as one would expect. Dinner is a three-course offering, at £70pp, plus service, with four selections for each course. Treacle cured salmon was good, escabeche of red mullet was very delicate and full of flavour; Dukka crusted duck main was superb - beautifully cooked (pink) and accompanied with artichoke, carrots and other veg; some very nice cooking here. The cheese plate was a delight with Godminster cheddar and Sharpham brie being the stand outs. Wine list is as you would expect - loaded with encouragement to 'trade up' and venture to new areas, but their nominal 'house red', a South African at £32, was very drinkable and suited us perfectly. Staff in the restaurant were very friendly an attentive. One niggle was being charged for a cup of tea at the end of the meal - having spent £172 (plus 12.5% service) on dinner, it felt churlish to then charge for a single pot of tea, but maybe others will disagree. The restaurant itself is modestly formal - white tablecloth and dark wood panels suggest it perhaps best suits a certain clientele who prefer their fine dining with one eye on days long gone. More modern tastes might prefer a little more fun and and less 'starched' approach but whatever your preference there is no denying the food is very accomplished. I enjoyed the Endsleigh, but it didn't excite me the way some other places do (The Pig Hotel group for instance, which of course might not be to others tastes, but I rather like their offering of not taking itself too seriously), and accordingly The Endsleigh felt a little over priced by comparison. Others, of course, may disagree!
