Very nice pub which was warm cosy. Most welcome on a chilly day.The venison pie was very tasty with plenty of vegetables. The fish and chips were also very good. Staff were welcoming and service good
After walking out another pub in town due to poor service we went to the Royal Oak for lunch. Gareth was working alone serving in the bar, taking food orders, showing customers to areas to sit, toilets etc, serving food orders. He made time to have a bit of banter with us, checking our order was what we wanted, he was very friendly, professional, attentative and didn't come across as flustered or under pressure despite working alone. During our weekend break in York we booked here for Sunday lunch, the pub had friendly welcoming staff and a cosy atmosphere. Good choices on the menu as well as the usual Sunday roast options. We all opted for a Sunday roast which were lovely, tasty and with plenty of vegetables and a large gravy boat. With a good choice of beers, lagers, wines and spirits it was a great evening.
