Mughal Rasoi
17 King St, SouthwellThe best restaurant in Southwell. Absolutely loved it here, the food was amazing with lots of flavour. Clean, tidy, smiley friendly staff. Probably the best Indian food I've ever had.
Ignore all the bad reviews as they are all over 3 years old and from when the previous owner ran it. New owner for the past 2.5 years and he's done a great job of turning this restaurant into a 5 star experience. We will definitely return and recommend to my family and friends.
Thanks Shan, keep up the great quality and service. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sweets of Southwell
34 King St, SouthwellPopped in on a whim with the kids and loved it. Not just by the amazing selection of sweets (nostalgia feast), but by how lovely the owner is. So friendly and welcoming, and clearly passionate. Great with the kids and has the patience of a saint. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area, a little pocket of joy.

Alfresco Caffe
10 Queen St, SouthwellA chance find today after an online search for ice cream in Southwell for my kids. As a coeliac, I was thrilled to arrive and immediately spot a sign advertising gluten free ice cream cones then see multiple gluten free options on the cake counter too! It’s not often I’m spoiled for choice! The GF carrot cake was delicious and the kids were very happy with their ice creams. The staff were all lovely, superb service. It’s a popular place and I can see why. We’re not local, but I will certainly consider a return trip to Southwell to visit this gem!

The Final Whistle
Station Rd, SouthwellThis is a great place which easily accommodated our large group. Bar Food was available until 10pm - cheese boards and pork pies were delicious and well received. Staff pleasant and welcoming. However, pub loses a star on the scruffy ladies toilets. Graffiti on doors, wet floors and push taps that don't turn themselves off. They really need an update and were a bit of a surprise when the rest of the pub was well presented.

The Saracens Head Hotel & Restaurant
Market Pl, SouthwellToday we visited the Saracens Head for Sunday lunch and couldn’t have asked for a more relaxing experience. The food was exceptional — full of flavour, beautifully presented, and served piping hot.\n\nA young lady playing the piano in the background added a touch of elegance that made the whole afternoon feel special.\n\nThe staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive throughout. A lovely setting, wonderful atmosphere, and a perfect way to spend a Sunday. Highly recommended

Admiral Rodney Southwell
9 King St, Southwell????? 5/5 — A Proper Pub with Heart, Soul, and the Godliest Fish & Chips I’ve Ever Had
I’m honestly still glowing from my visit to The Admiral Rodney in Southwell. From the moment I stepped in, I felt completely at ease — the whole place hums with warmth, friendliness, and that effortless, down-to-earth charm you only find in a proper British pub that knows who it is and does it brilliantly.
Let me get straight to it: the fish and chips were nothing short of divine. The batter was crisp without being greasy, the fish inside was beautifully flaky and fresh, and the chips were hot, golden, and soul-soothing. I’m not exaggerating when I say it was the godliest fish and chips I’ve ever eaten. I’d go back for that alone — happily.
Then came the cheesecake, and wow. It was the kind of dessert that makes you go quiet for a minute. Creamy, smooth, perfectly sweet — but what really got me was the biscuit base. It was buttery, rich, and had the perfect crunch. Honestly, it could win awards. I’m still thinking about it.
The staff were amazing — genuinely lovely people who made me feel like I was more than just another customer. They were friendly, attentive, always smiling, and just really decent. You can tell they care, not just about the service but about creating a good atmosphere. They even made a fuss over the dog, bringing water and treats — it’s a proper dog-friendly pub, not just one that allows dogs but welcomes them.
The vibe was exactly what I needed. Relaxed, no stress, no pretence. Just a cozy, comfortable space where the conversation flows, the music is at just the right volume, and the energy is warm and familiar. It’s the kind of place you could settle into for hours without even realising it.
There’s something special about The Admiral Rodney — it’s not just the food (though that alone is worth raving about), it’s the feeling you get when you’re there. It’s comforting. Joyful. A little sanctuary of good vibes, great food, and kind people.
I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit.

Gossips Coffee House
26 King St, SouthwellMy mum and I called in for lunch on Saturday lunchtime. The atmosphere felt chilled and there was a nice low hum of conversation around us. The staff were friendly and efficient, we felt.
We had a good peruse of the menu, before choosing the daily specials. We did feel that some items were rather highly priced - soup and a roll was over £7, baked beans on toast was over £10!! Yet the main meal Specials were only £12.95 - which was reasonable.
My mum really enjoyed her Quiche and salad and my Steak and Kidney Pie with mashed potato and vegetables was really tasty. Even a jug with the gravy in which was good.
