Alfresco Caffe
10 Queen St, SouthwellA chance find today after an online search for ice cream in Southwell for my kids. As a coeliac, I was thrilled to arrive and immediately spot a sign advertising gluten free ice cream cones then see multiple gluten free options on the cake counter too! It’s not often I’m spoiled for choice! The GF carrot cake was delicious and the kids were very happy with their ice creams. The staff were all lovely, superb service. It’s a popular place and I can see why. We’re not local, but I will certainly consider a return trip to Southwell to visit this gem!

Sweets of Southwell
34 King St, SouthwellPopped in on a whim with the kids and loved it. Not just by the amazing selection of sweets (nostalgia feast), but by how lovely the owner is. So friendly and welcoming, and clearly passionate. Great with the kids and has the patience of a saint. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area, a little pocket of joy.

Hearty Goodfellow
81 Church St, SouthwellExcellent table service. Halloumi burger was sensational and with chips and coleslaw was good value at £12.95. Dog-friendly pub. My partner had a veggie lasagne small plate option for just £8.95. Great atmosphere at the pub. Plenty of parking.

The Final Whistle
Station Rd, SouthwellThis is a great place which easily accommodated our large group. Bar Food was available until 10pm - cheese boards and pork pies were delicious and well received. Staff pleasant and welcoming. However, pub loses a star on the scruffy ladies toilets. Graffiti on doors, wet floors and push taps that don't turn themselves off. They really need an update and were a bit of a surprise when the rest of the pub was well presented.

Scoozi Pizzeria
15 Market Pl, SouthwellExcellent first experience! I wasn't sure what to order as it was my first time, but the staff were so helpful and polite, they even brought me ketchup without me asking. The pepperoni pizza and chips were delicious, and the portions are absolutely massive for such a cheap price. I’m so full I can barely move! Best pizza ever, highly recommend.

Bamboo Garden
18 Market Pl, SouthwellWe ordered a takeaway by the telephone and the customer service we recieved on Saturday the 17th of Jan was excellent. The food was ready in a timely manner and it was still hot when we got home.
I have marked the food down one star because the batter and sauce on our crispy chilli beef let yourself down to be fair. The sauce was very thick and the batter was a bit soggy, not crispy at all. However, the crispy prawn balls were very crispy. I would order from here again, but I wouldn't be ordering the crispy shredded chilli beef in the future. The vermicelli, chicken fried rice and curry sauce was beautiful.

Admiral Rodney Southwell
9 King St, Southwell????? 5/5 — A Proper Pub with Heart, Soul, and the Godliest Fish & Chips I’ve Ever Had
I’m honestly still glowing from my visit to The Admiral Rodney in Southwell. From the moment I stepped in, I felt completely at ease — the whole place hums with warmth, friendliness, and that effortless, down-to-earth charm you only find in a proper British pub that knows who it is and does it brilliantly.
Let me get straight to it: the fish and chips were nothing short of divine. The batter was crisp without being greasy, the fish inside was beautifully flaky and fresh, and the chips were hot, golden, and soul-soothing. I’m not exaggerating when I say it was the godliest fish and chips I’ve ever eaten. I’d go back for that alone — happily.
Then came the cheesecake, and wow. It was the kind of dessert that makes you go quiet for a minute. Creamy, smooth, perfectly sweet — but what really got me was the biscuit base. It was buttery, rich, and had the perfect crunch. Honestly, it could win awards. I’m still thinking about it.
The staff were amazing — genuinely lovely people who made me feel like I was more than just another customer. They were friendly, attentive, always smiling, and just really decent. You can tell they care, not just about the service but about creating a good atmosphere. They even made a fuss over the dog, bringing water and treats — it’s a proper dog-friendly pub, not just one that allows dogs but welcomes them.
The vibe was exactly what I needed. Relaxed, no stress, no pretence. Just a cozy, comfortable space where the conversation flows, the music is at just the right volume, and the energy is warm and familiar. It’s the kind of place you could settle into for hours without even realising it.
There’s something special about The Admiral Rodney — it’s not just the food (though that alone is worth raving about), it’s the feeling you get when you’re there. It’s comforting. Joyful. A little sanctuary of good vibes, great food, and kind people.
I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit.

Gossips Coffee House
26 King St, Southwell3rd visit here. Previous visits were 5 star but this time just let it down a little.
The mac & cheese was very tasty I'm told. However, my blt wasn't quite up to the mark. Placed onto salad, the bottom layer of toast had gone soggy.
The salad itself had no dressing at all on either plate, so it was really dry and hard to eat.
Will call in again hoping its just a one off blip as the waiting staff are great

The Saracens Head Hotel & Restaurant
Market Pl, SouthwellWe came here on Boxing Day and had a very enjoyable family meal for 12 people. Charlie was very welcoming and helpful. We did not stay the night so I cannot comment on the rooms, but the restaurant and bar were perfect.

The Refectory
The Refectory, Church St, SouthwellThe Refectory is always popular but we came on a Tuesday and got a table straight away without having to wait, however sometimes you may have to wait if they're busy which is only to be expected. We had Cheddar & Bacon toastie with Soup of the Day.
Highly recommended!
Sorry I didn't take a photo of the food, I was too busy enjoying it.
