OMG I had the Octopus Delight off the specials board, and it was THE BEST octopus I've ever had... and I've ate a few! Other half also enjoyed his beef mallibar ? I even got him to try the Octopus, anyone would have thought it was a bush tucker trial but he said it was 'OK but a bit fishy' trust me that's a good review for him, he did love his beef though??

Great place situated on a converted barge, moored on the River Trent. I visited for a lunchtime drink. Staff were very friendly and food prices reasonable. Had a good pint of Guinness in a good atmosphere.

Excellent service fresh frendily staff the best local chippy in newark been here a few times the gentleman with glasses always giving free bits when waiting bless him. Also has cash machine inside. Clean and fresh meals. The kebabs are wonderfully too. Fish and chips are even better proper cod and at low prices you must try

Had a great Sunday afternoon in a traditional Newark pub that has a modern vibe. Old fashioned bingo using playing cards (prize on 1st game £46 (£2 entry) & a free pop quiz via their app with a prize. Service was excellent but done with a smile (very friendly staff). Mr Potter the Landlord & his better half were both getting involved with their customers. It's great to see a Landlord trying his hardest to attract new trade to his establishment which can only be better for Newark. I had a few pints & met some new friends, surely that's what it's all about. I'm not a regular pub person but when I do go out I always make the Rutland my 1st point of call. Thanks for a great experience.

The service was very good, friendly and welcoming.
We turned up on a Saturday night about 7:30 pm without booking only had to wait 15 minutes for a table. The food was exceptional! Between us, my partner and I had the Thai green curry the chicken pad. Thai set a chicken on skewers and the prawn spring rolls.

Found this gem on my drive back from Scotland.

A lovely bar & restaurant with vast range of delicious food & quality beers, myself and my wife enjoyed the experience.

Very friendly staff.

The pizza, pie and pull pork burger are must haves. Generous portion sizes and fantastic homemade chips!

The prices were very reasonably priced in comparison to the other bars & restaurants in the area.

All in all a very positive experience and will come back.

Stumbled across this place on Facebook so I booked a table for valentines night. The food was amazing and so tasty. Portion size was big, we couldn’t finish it all so they kindly boxed it up for us to take home. This is our new favourite place to eat and will be back regularly! My rating is gauged on my expectations. I wasn't alone this time and it was a Sunday. We managed to get a small table set for 2 covers. A definite atmosphere of small cafe with, at that time, an elderly clientele. We chose this place for the daily specials and not the regular menu, opting for COTTAGE PIE and GAMMON EGG AND CHIPS. LATTE and CAPPUCCINO for drinks. We didn't get a latte or cappuccino, as proportions were all wrong and maybe it was due to lack of milk as some was rushed in. LATTE should have approx 1cm of foam and cappuccino should be thirds of coffee milk and foam. What we got was just coffee with a bit of foamy milk on top.
The meals however were perfectly home made. The COTTAGE PIE was filling and cooked well with a crusty potato top. Fresh cauliflower, brussels, carrots, red cabbage and roast potatoes with gravy were all hot on arrival. Fresh veg was well cooked, not soggy and pleasing to the eyes.
The GAMMON egg and chips also arrived hot. The GAMMON was very thick and a fair size. Obviously from a butcher not a supermarket. The chips were frozen, but good, and the 2 eggs were runny allowing the chips to be dunked which is a childish thing I enjoy.
Portions were huge and we struggled to clear our plates. There was a selection of cakes and puddings that I will come back to try because they looked really inviting.
Over all I will be back to see what other specials they have but I'll opt for a normal americano coffee. Glad I found this little gem as the staff were very friendly and obviously care for their customers. I recommend a vist based on what I found and what I heard others saying. Like me, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Thank you.

We had heard mixed reviews about this pub, but I can honestly say that my husband and I had the most amazing meal tonight! The chef definitely knew his stuff and even discouraged us from ordering the rump steak as it was not at its best, and offered us the sirloin at the same price.
The deserts were heaven and the service was excellent....will definitely visit again ?

Absolutely fantastic pub! The Grove never disappoints--every dish we've tried has been incredible, full of flavor, and very reasonably priced. It's rare to find such consistently high-quality food without breaking the bank. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff truly go above and beyond.
