Blackbird Tearoom
Carradale, CampbeltownThe Blackbird is a veritable oasis in Carradale. The young couple who run it are friendly, chatty and the home baking they offer is excellent ?! Whether you go for the soup, the cakes or the scones you know it's home made and of great quality and taste. It's dog friendly too which is a BIG plus given the lack of dog friendly cafes on the Kintyre Peninsula. We noticed a lot of local clientele use the Blackbird, always a good sign. If you're in the area or passing through, definitely call in at the Blackbird!!

Carradale Hotel
3 Airds, Carradale East, CampbeltownBrilliant (Sgionneil)The pros for the Carradale Hotel are: Great location for island ferries (we went to Islay and Arran), we loved the “extras” in the rooms (The fruit teas, hot chocolates and the Tunnock’s Caramel bars.), the rooms were clean, Rhona and Cara were really personable (asking us how did we sleep, how are we feeling, what are we doing, etc.) and they were very accommodating to one of our guests (who has coeliac disease – i.e. gluten free) making sure that there was at least one thing that they could eat on the breakfast and evening menus. The cons for the Carradale Hotel, would be the main road to get there is a 16 mile long single track road with passing places (it was nerve wracking the first time or so getting there but better after that), there was no WiFi but there was a very good 4G signal (okay for us but if you need WiFi...) and, when we staying there, the car park was shut because of an issue with Scottish water and the car park (we personally feel, looking back) could of done with signage.Overall, we would go back there. Rhona and Cara could of not of been any better hosts and we really enjoyed our time there. Happily recommend (yes even with the road and the car parking issues we had) and cannot wait to book there for our next Scottish holiday in a few years time. 4/4.5 starsWalkability: There's a big Carradale walk nearby if you enjoy walking. (A few signs about it around the village.)

Big Jessie's Tearoom
Ferry Road, Tayinloan, TarbertApart from thoroughly enjoying our dinner at Big Jessie's I cannot thank Alistair for helping me with a significant car problem. Having just returned on the ferry from Gigha our car would not start due to what I thought was an electrical issue. The AA were unable to come out because of the isolation of Tayinloan. Our camp site was located some distance away and we were in effect stranded. Thankfully owner Alistair came to the rescue, provided jump leads and a significant amount of car knowledge and our short break was rescued. I recommend the fish and chips plus all the trimmings at Big Jessies

90 Longrow, CampbeltownDog friendly pub. Dogs were welcomed with biscuits & water.Menu was limited, (as most are at the moment,) but the food we ordered was fab. Macaroni was gorgeous. Very generous portions. Staff all very friendly & chatty, as were the customers. Nothing too much trouble. A little out of the way from the centre, but worth a visit. Don’t be put off by the outside appearance. This pubs a little gem.

The Glen Bar & Restaurant
Carradale, CampbeltownExcellent food, cosy atmosphere and lovely environment. We booked here for early Hogmanay dinner. We had to pre order which wasn’t a problem. Scallops delightful, scampi and king prawns delicious and a generous children’s portion. We came back for drinks another day and then drinks and lunch another. Bill & May were lovely. Dogs not allowed, but understand not everyone wants them in the restaurant! Highly recommend

Ceann Loch Diner
24 Bolgam St, CampbeltownSeems to be run by the owners of the adjoining Bangladeshi Tandoori and a decent place to stop for a snack or meal. There's a pleasant staff, good service and a varied menu. Just an 'ordinary' cafe, nothing fancy, but clean and the food we had was good and plenty of it for the price. Lots of meat meals but plenty of vegetarian choice too (omelettes, macaroni cheese, jacket potatoes, cheese salad with pineapple and chips). Mugs of tea and coffee. The cafe is just off the town centre not far from the harbour.

The Old Clubhouse Pub & Restaurant
The Village at Machrihanish Dunes, MachrihanishWe just popped in to checkout the menu & the pub was empty - it was only 6pm & a very wet November outside. We asked about gluten free options & the chef not only offered to make me GF fish & chips but also to clean out the fryer once I asked about the oil... wow !. They then had Gf Peroni. Needless to say we stayed put & I am glad we did.My sister had the burger which was fat & juicy, on a good bun with good relish.. & on both plates the side salad had a delicious "French" dressing - who dresses a side salad in a pub in the UK ? ..Next to no one.I would not expect the chef to be so kind on a busy shift but + 90% of chefs would never offer to do this in a similar scenario.Faultless food, faultless staff, cosy old pub. Why is this pub empty ? Don't you know a good thing when you've got it ?Thanks a lot.Angela & Stephen(Brummies get everywhere)

Taj Mahal
16 Hall St, CampbeltownWe had take away from here last weekend and it was honestly one of the best curries I have had in years, taste was great and the consistency of the curry was spot on. I asked if they could do Paneer cheese in the curry instead of vegetables which which they did. Really excellent I will 100% order from the Taj again the next time I am in Campbeltown.
