The Balaclava Byre
Port Ellen, Isle of IslayThe Byre is an absolute treasure on Islay. The food was amazing (crispy squid, filet of sole, smoked mussel tagliatelle), the chef/waiter delightful and interesting to talk with, the dining room and furniture beautiful, and all set in the middle of the gorgeous Islay countryside. Our favorite meal during our 3 week tour of Scotland.

Bowmore Distillery
School St, Bowmore, Isle of IslayI had a marvelous experience on the Bowmore distillery tour: As it happened there were no other guests so I got a bespoke walkthrough care of my guide Evy. She was on top of each aspect of the plant, got me into countless tight spaces to see new angles of their operation, and best of all she decanted some of the most devastating spirits I've ever tasted in the cask warehouse. This tour is one for the books, do not miss it.

Bruichladdich Distillery
Bruichladdich, Distillery, Isle of IslayI love Bruichladdich, they feel like a sparky start-up even though it's been around for decades. The tour is great: I booked a VIP walkaround with Ashley, a walking repository of company knowledge and procedure. She was dynamic and generous, engaging me like an actual person instead of just a warm body walking through a time-slot. I had a great experience, and the best part was the cask originals she decanted at the end, exclusive to this experience. If that's not enough to get you to go I have nothing else to say.

Bowmore Hotel Restaurant
Jamieson St, Bowmore, of IslayI came in just in time for eat-in and lunch time. The beef hamburger and spring rolls were very delicious. The hamburger comes with a separate plate of fries and is reasonably priced. The dessert, cracknell, was served with warm custard and was a satisfying meal. It might be more filling than a spring roll. When it comes to whisky, there are so many options on the menu that it can be said to be a hassle.Meals only cost 10 to 15 pounds per person.Whiskeys range from £10 to £1,500.When I find a bottle that matches my birth year, I want to drink it.

The Old Kiln Cafe
Ardbeg, Isle of IslayLovely cafe with a very nice semi-private room toward the back for larger groups. The food was very good, and it was nice to have a lighter refreshing salad, even if it was heavier thanks to a nice slice of goat cheese (you'll need to order bread as well). Recommend getting the mac and cheese with the pulled, it's delicious.Highly recommended if you walked the path to through the three distilleries. This cafe would be a nice reward at the end of the road. The cafe does not take reservations.

Peatzeria
22 Shore St, Bowmore, Isle of IslayInformal place for pizzas, pastas and ice creams. Good atmosphere and nice, friendly staff. The pizza dough is quite thin and crusty. I love the branding for Islay! Good for a change of menu over the usual island fish/hearty food!
