Absolutely rightful a well rated café. The food is very good at a fair price. The service is awesome. And the people are 100% family friendly. Plenty of toys are offered.l and you will even get a children's cup for water. How good this café is, is proofed by the vast amount of locals eating here as well. Highly recommended stop!!!

Small but very nice restaurant with a well-selected number of different dishes :) we went for breakfast...Highly recommended are the bread with avocado spread and feta and the granola muesli (both not too big but sufficient!).Our cappuccinos with oat drink were also delicious!Anyone driving through Ullapool should make a stop here! Thanks for the cozy breakfast :)

Slept at Clachan Gardens B&B while hiking the Cape Wrath Trail. While I had only booked one night - I called ahead one day early towards the end of the day for an extra night. They were very welcoming and accomodated another night - and even cooked me a delicious dinner even though I arrived quite late.My stay at Clachan B&B was perfect. The area is really nice with Clachan and the garden, the owners friendly and in for a chat if you like. The room is high quality and cosy. The best part for me was however the food: delicious breakfast and dinner with ingredients from the garden. Coffee was superb. A great place for a rest day on the Cape Wrath Trail.Bonus: the next they I was offered a ride into Ullapool for a stop at the outdoorshop before driving me all the way up to the trailhead. Lovely place, food ánd hosts.

Fantastic service from Richard and Shan helping with a hamper and taking great care over allergens. All done remotely but somehow they managed to make it feel truly personal.

Great place for a takeaway coffee before or after the ferry. I also had a delicious almond croissant and bought a packet of Westray Bakehouse flakey biscuits for the journey. The staff are really friendly. Highly recommended.

The prices are quite expensive for the food we ordered. Onion rings with more batter than onion, a 100g salmon dish for £26 or tomato soup with two pieces of bread. The right atmosphere although better if you go on a day with live music. Be careful because your clothes may smell like fish when you go out.

Myself and my partner decided to take a trip up to Ullapool as we are like ships in the night with our jobs. We were greeted and made to feel very welcome by the team. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was fantastic and fresh. I would highly recommend stopping in here if you decide a day trip to Ullapool or if you have time to wait for the ferry to Stornoway.

Essence Of India

West Ln, Ullapool

We had a one-night stay in Ullapool and decided to try the local curry house for our evening meal. We walked into town, and after wandering a little we found the restaurant tucked away on West Lane. As soon as we entered, we were greeted with a cheery hello, and a "we don't take cards, cash only". I checked my cash, and certainly didn't have enough to cover the evening. The staff advised that the Royal Bank of Scotland had an ATM and was a 5-minute walk away on West Argyle Street. Off we went into the rain, only to get to the ATM and find it was out of order! A quick Goole of ATM's in Ullapool showed there was one at the Tesco supermarket. We then plodded off to Tesco. I withdrew a couple of hundred quid, and we walked back, in the rain to Essence of India. With a feeling of deja-vu, we entered again, and we were quickly shown to a table. Prior to studying the menu's I asked for a couple of cold beers, and then was told "..we don't serve alcohol - you can get some at Tesco and drink it with your meal" ??‍♂️ - We'd just walked from there, and didn't relish walking back up for the sake of a beer or two, so decided to stay on the soft drinks. We quickly chose and placed our order. Whilst waiting for the food we noticed that the place was a bit shabby around the edges, and had seen a lot of action over the years. The area around the bar counter could have been tidy, (pigeon holes to the right-hand side just stuffed with assorted paperwork and junk), and the mirror behind the bar could have been cleaned and polished - really minor things, but for my other half this stuff matters! We kicked off the food with poppadoms and a chutney tray - nothing to shout about, just the usual poppadoms and chutneys. We didn't order starters, so went onto the main courses. I'd gone for my usual 'benchmark' of Chicken Pathia, with garlic and chilli Naan, accompanied by a side order of Tarka Dhall. The boss went for a House Speciality (the name of which I have forgotten now) and a Pilau Rice. The main arrived relatively quickly, and we tucked in. The Pathia was good, maybe a little over-sweet, (too much mango?) but then it is a hot, sweet and sour dish. A good heat to it, and certainly flavoursome. The Tarka Dhall was also very good - a decent consistency and a powerful flavour too. The garlic and chilli Naan was very good too - a nice charring and blistering of the bread, very soft and pliable, and moist from the garlic and ghee which had been brushed on. The Boss's dish was good - it was a chicken-based curry of medium heat. Again, very flavoursome and well-cooked. We soon finished our food, paid the bill and went out into the rain (again). We were both very satisfied with what we had received. The food was far better than we had expected, and that is largely due to our expectations having been influenced by the interior presentation of the restaurant. It was good food, and the bill was around 60 quid for the lot including a couple of pints each of Diet Coke - so not too bad at all. Would we go again?? If in Ullapool and in need of Indian food, you really have no other options, but in saying that, the food was expertly cooked, the staff very pleasant and value for money was provided.

We called here for a takeaway. Fish was delicious and my husband loved the battered haggis. Ok portions. Chips were good as chips go, the only real let down for me was the gravy just tasted like bisto. Found it quite pricey for a takeaway chippy.
