The food was amazing and extremely tasty. I’d drive back to the pub simply for the food alone.
The owners were lovely and very down to earth. You can tell their business means a lot to them. I can’t recommend this place enough.

The Flying Fish Pub & Restaurant
Wood Rd, Windmill Hill Ln, Ashill, IlminsterAn overnight stay. Excellent accommodation, well thought out for someone with mobility issues. Dinner was well cooked and plentiful. Breakfast was brought to our room. All in all a delightful experience. Thoroughly recommended.

Horton Manor, Horton Cross, IlminsterStopped for lunch with our 11 month old grandson. Had a lovely bacon, brie and cranberry panini. Nice leek & potato soup with bread. Great coffee. Lovely staff and atmosphere. We will be back

The New Inn
Cudworth Road, Dowlish Wake, IlminsterWhat a beautiful little village. Very quiet and the locals are very friendly.
Nicky the landlady was exceptional, very warm, jolly and friendly on our arrival. Nothing was to much effort. We loved taking part in the local quiz night which takes part on the first sunday of the month.
Look forward to staying again one day.

Harts Cl, IlminsterVery nice atmosphere but I would be cautious of the light fittings as nearly all the red lamp shades are melted & look like they couldn't catch fire at any point ! You need a low watt candle bulb that doesn't get to hot ?

14 Silver St, IlminsterHaving rebooked afternoon tea we couldn't have been happier with the service and attention to every aspect. The quality of the sandwiches, scones & cakes were excellent. My coffee was hot and very full flavoured. Although the booking hadn't reached the Litchen they turned around what could have been disastrous into a delightful afternoon.

Sweet Surprise

Inclusion at its’ finest. Could not resist buying this lovely hippo made by one of the young people there. Horace just had to come home with me, for my Grandson! ♥️

I had won a 2 course meal for 2 and we were looking forward to it...and weren't disappointed!
Such a friendly welcome on arrival.
They kept tomato juice in stock..not everyone does.
Excellent Roast. Great range of veg, including creamed leeks. Good gravy. Roasties done to perfection.We were advised the beef would be rare unless we preferred well done. Rare is how we wanted it and it was excellent.
As it happened my husband wasn't feeling too well..he actually had an emergency appendix removal 48 hours later...so we left before our dessert. They REFUSED to let us pay for our drinks as we weren't having dessert. I had a g n t and he 2 tomato juices!
What more can l say?
Win win all round.
We will definitely return when he is recovered!

6 West St, IlminsterFirst night of holiday. After the long drive no one wanted to cook so we all decided on Fish and chips. Quick search on maps and this one came up highly rated. Parked in the car park opposite and joined the long queue. ordering was quick and easy and given a number. Fish was cooked to order so it was lovely and fresh. Chips were great and a decent portion size for large. The wait was not too long. Would absolutely recommend and if ever in the vicinity would make the trip to try them again.

The Dolphin, 22 Silver St, IlminsterA respectable establishment worthy of a visit. This is a PUB in the most traditional sense. It is unprentious, well stocked, professionally run by experts in their field. There is no shortage of seating. The facility is clean and well managed. It is wheel chair accessible. Seating is both indoor and outdoor. It is a credit to Ilminster.

4A Ditton St, IlminsterWe came down from Cardiff to visit family in Chard and we stopped by this nice spot in Ilminster. It’s a halal place with lovely staff who gave great recommendations. The chicken tikka and lamb biryani were both delicious, served with tadka daal and poppadoms. The atmosphere was really nice—great music, warm lighting, and a vibrant bar area. Takeaway was ready in under 10 minutes, with cutlery provided too! The staff who served us were Bangladeshi and they were so excited to know we were Bangladeshi too!

“Hands down the best fish and chips in town! The fish is always fresh with really light, crispy batter and the chips are spot on – proper old-school chippy style. Portions are generous and good value too.
The team are always friendly and make you feel welcome, and the place is clean and well looked after. I’ve tried a few chip shops around Somerset and this one is easily the top pick. If you’re in Ilminster, you won’t be disappointed!”

The food was fresh, well-prepared, and there was a good variety to choose from. Plenty of tables to sit and have the meal. Service was quick, making it convenient for a grab-and-go meal while we were in the area. Overall, it was an easy and hassle-free stop.

19 West St, IlminsterWanted to share our experience due to the mixed reviews for this place (now called China Garden!) We’ve ordered from here twice now and had great food both times. As a vegan, I really appreciated the great veggie selection on the menu and the added bonus of salt and pepper tofu (not on the menu but kindly made for us both times!). The portion sizes are good, the price is reasonable and the wait time for collection was just 15 minutes, so super quick, fresh and hot food. The service was fabulous with some freebies added too. We will be back soon. In short - please don’t be put off by earlier reviews when the business was under different management!

Burger King
Horton Cross A303, Horton Cross, IlminsterThe next 2 hours of our 6 hour driving expedition stared ahead of us like looking down the barrel of a gun, this Burger King became the light that ignited the hope we needed to make it home.
The sun shot through the pigeon poo stained windows and we dined like kings on our 3 whoppers and another 3 whoppers.
Above all else, it was the sight of a roadside legend that sent excitement through our veins - we were graced by the presence of Sharon.
We tried to keep our cool as she restocked the fridge.
No doubt we will be back, with the aim of breaking the silence and ordering a began sausage roll for the queen of the Greggs coffee cards herself.
Thank you Burger King.
