The Crown Pilton
Conduit Square, Pilton, Shepton MalletWe booked a table for Friday evening and the place was humming delightfully, so nice to be in a busy pub. The food was fabulous, special mention to the lemon Possett and the banana cake dessert. I am not fond of banana cake, what was I thinking and it was fabulous! And the service genuine, I just wish we lived nearer and could come more often. Very happy to recommend it- well worth booking in advance.

Manor House Inn
Wraxall Rd, Ditcheat, Shepton MalletWe had an amazing stay from start to finish! The pub has a lovely atmosphere, fantastic food, and our room was spotless, with thoughtful touches like hot water bottles and homemade cookies. Breakfast was incredible, but the real highlight was the staff - their kindness and attentiveness made everything so special. Huge thanks to Sarah, who went above and beyond, and the male manager (sorry, we didn’t catch his name) for his helpful tips and care. Every detail was perfect. Highly recommended and cannot wait to return.

The Poachers Pocket
Chelynch Rd, Shepton MalletIn the small hamlet of Chelynch, near Shepton Mallet, lies the historicly Grade ll listed tavern, The Poacherz Pocket.
My lunch date and me met there for our inaugural lunch after many weeks of just talking about it.
Not easy to find without local knowledge or a decent GPS, it is tucked away in the Somerset countryside, but we'll worth the finding.
On the Cask Marque Ale Trail, the ale is guaranteed to be in superb condition, but the reason for this visit was to favour the delights of the kitchen.
If eating here, be hungry - the portions are generous.
A fine meal with engaging company, washed down with an excellent vintage and served by attentive staff, made for a very pleasant and hopefully repeatable experience.

Shepton Mallet Kebab & Pizza Takeaway
45 High St, Shepton MalletOrdered from here for the first time, the staff were lovely and brilliant customer service and very helpful when I only had apple pay and not cash, I got into a right faff. The food was lovely too and very speedy and the only place I’ve ever seen do mint and garlic mayo together, it was beautiful. Thank you very much

Masburys Cafe
Old Frome Rd, WellsHusband and I regularly enjoy eating at the cafe, as we visit Rocky Mountain Nursery, at least once a week. The menu is especially appreciated by me, as I can only eat gluten free and there are lots of options. The cauli cheese is my favourite. Great value and generous portions.

Shepton Brasserie
66 High St, Shepton MalletI really enjoyed the food here, Steak and ale pie with buttered new potatoes and veg. Absolutely delicious, a proper pie rather than stew with a pastry cover, flavourful with complimentary side dishes, friendly service and very good value for money. I recommend a visit here for food and drink if you're in or near Shepton Mallet.

Kilver Court - Gardens and Cafe
Kilver St, Shepton MalletWhat a little gem of a place. Never been here before, even though we live about 11 miles away! After parking the car up (free), you can head towards the small cafe, for a drink and cake, or go into the designer shops (only one was open on Easter Bank Holiday Sunday, but more so after severe flooding), or pay £7.50 entrance to the gardens, which I think is a little on the expensive side, especially as the foliage and flowers weren't out yet or even get a complimentary drink. Better to go in mid Spring - Summer time. As usual, I took lots of photos. But still worth a visit.

The Crossways
North Wootton, Shepton MalletI am writing a well-overdue review for our wonderful stay at The Crossways.
We made a last-minute decision to book a night away and arranged our stay directly with the hotel. The booking process was lovely — easy, friendly and very attentive. It’s also worth booking directly if you want the best deal.
We stayed in a deluxe room, which was possibly the largest hotel room I have ever stayed in. It was beautifully comfortable and had the most fabulous view, with Glastonbury Tor visible in the distance — such a special sight to wake up to.
The team had very kindly placed a lovely bottle of wine in the room after I mentioned it was my partner’s birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the stay feel extra special.
We enjoyed drinks in the bar before dinner — the Bloody Mary was particularly fun and memorable! We also dined in the restaurant where the food was lovely, and the following morning we had an excellent breakfast which set us up perfectly for our adventure at Wookey Hole Caves, which I would highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area.
All in all, it was a really enjoyable stay. The atmosphere, the views and the thoughtful hospitality made it a memorable visit.
We would highly recommend The Crossways and look forward to returning

The King William IV
Station Rd, Shepton MalletProper family run village pub. Good local ales and cider as well as the normal selection of draft pints. Larger menu than you'd expect with good pub food and something for everyone. Their Sunday lunch is the best around too. Prices very reasonable for what you get. All together would definitely recommend.

The Dusthole
Kings Arms, Garston St, Shepton MalletI can only recommend 'The Dusthole'. We were very impressed by the owner's helpful and friendly manner as well as the 'charming' rooms. The atmosphere is very familiar, typically 'English', the room is very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. I would definitely book here again! Thank you very much for the great time!!

Bowlish House
Wells Rd, Bowlish, Shepton MalletA Truly Special Stay – Unforgettable Moments at Bowlish House From the moment I arrived at Bowlish House, I felt completely at ease. The house itself is full of charm and character, but what truly made my stay unforgettable was the host—absolutely amazing in every way. Warm, welcoming, and effortlessly kind, they made me feel more like a friend than a guest. On my first night, I found myself in the beautiful garden, sharing drinks and stories with the host and two other guests. I honestly can’t remember the last time I laughed so much. That evening set the tone for the rest of my stay—full of joy, connection, and genuine warmth. It’s rare to come across a place where the company is just as memorable as the setting. The house is gorgeous, with a peaceful, timeless feel. My room was spotless, cozy, and beautifully styled, and the breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious—thoughtfully prepared and full of local flavor. Bowlish House is more than just a lovely place to stay—it’s somewhere you feel instantly at home. I left with a full heart, new memories, and a genuine desire to return. Thank you so much for the laughter, the stories, and the wonderful hospitality. I truly loved your company.

Subway
Ground Floor, Unit 4 Townsend, Shepton MalletI had an early lunch in Subway today. There was a growing queue but only one person working behind the counter, making lunches and hot drinks. It has to be said that that one person was fantastic. He worked quickly, precisely, hygienically and very pleasantly. I was most impressed…and told him so. He was working at an exhausting speed. Message to the manager - you need more staff.

The Charlton Inn
29 Charlton Rd, Shepton MalletA really lovely anniversary stay at the beautiful Charlton House. The team in reception, the spa, housekeeping and the restaurant were all fantastic. friendly, helpful, professional l and provided excellent customer service. We dined in the restaurant, breakfast, evening meal and afternoon tea the following day and enjoyed really good food and service. The spa was lovely, and the booked treatments were outstanding. A good gym with decent equipment. We had a lovely big room with small outside area which was great. There were a few small areas around the outside spa and room which were a little tired, but nothing that detracted at all from the fantastic break we enjoyed.
