We had not made a booking but were made very welcome. Beautiful decor with low lighting. We were last there four years ago and it has improved enormously. Highly recommended. My husband, who is a vegetarian, was extremely impressed with his veggie dish, which is very rare as most restaurants do not make much effort.Vegetarian options: Harissa baked aubergine.

So many vegan options which are great. Staff attentive without getting in the way of conversation. Large wine menu. Normal menu is also large and we have always liked the food. Pizzas are a popular choice.

Visited on the way to a tournament with a School Rugby Squad from Birmingham; both the service and food was excellent. They opened up extra early to accommodate the large group and food was ready on arrival. They made the whole experience very easy for a large group. We will be visiting again next year!

Arrived at this fabulous old pub for a Birthday meal today,it did not disappoint. Our meals of Haddock and Scampi arrived quickly well cooked and plentiful. The staff were cheerful and chatty. The fire was burning making it feel cosy. Plenty of car parking.

Motte & Bailey Cafe

49 High St, Arundel

I'm just leaving a quick review to big it up for the Motte & Bailey Cafe, who did their bit in restoring our faith in the local eateries & hostelries in Arundel after we'd just had a bad experience in another local establishment (my review of the Black Rabbit refers). So, having had our best laid plans scuppered, we found ourselves looking somewhere else for lunch-time food and solace. We came upon the centrally located Motte & Bailey Cafe (although I'm not sure the 'cafe' title does it justice; we had what was restaurant standard food, and we noticed they're licensed, so I'd say this is more a casual restaurant than your typical bacon-butty cafe). So after the indifference of the previous establishment we'd been to, it was refreshing to be greeted by a cheerful and attentive waitress who took our order, and with minimal delay refreshments were on the table in the form of quality coffees, followed by Eggs Benedict for me and Irish Seafood Chowder for my other half, chosen from the Brunch and Lunch menu. Both dishes really were as good as it gets. The menu catered I'm sure for all manner of tastes and appetities with a good variety of the typical fare including salads, burgers, sandwiches and desserts. So, in terms of ambience (a lovely view across Arundel High Street), quality of the food, friendly and courteous service, pricing, and menu options (plus there's two varying menus dependent on the time of day), it's a five from me and likewise from my wife!

This is a fantastic museum set in a former chalk pit area and consists of many outbuildings that display the history of the manufacturing of lime from the chalk plus woodworking, metalworking, telecommunications, and printing to list just a few. It is run by very knowledgeable volunteers who are keen to share their experience. It is amazing to see this equipment in use, plus many interactive areas. Children can learn and enjoy the interactive sections as well as adults. There is also a mini railway and classic buses to take you around the site.A nice cafe serves lovely lunches/sandwiches etc.
