Castle Nook, AlstonWe had been away in our motorhome and decided to stop off here on the way home as they have a big carpark. We both got a veggie breakfast and coffee's which were delicious. The whole menu looked really good. We bought some fresh veg from the shop as well. The staff were all friendly and we will be returning again

Saddlers Bakery Bistro
West View, AlstonStopped off for a coffee but ended up having breakfast because the food looked so good. The ingredients are all local and delicious. There was a small wait, but that's because all the food is freshly prepared. Definitely recommend.

SPAR Alston
Townfoot Garage, Station Rd, AlstonAs a gentleman with a discerning palate and an appreciation for genuine hospitality, I must say the Spar store in Alston exceeded my expectations. I had the pleasure of speaking with several staff members during my visit - all of whom were unfailingly polite and friendly. It's a rare thing these days to feel such pleasantries in a simple shopping trip.
To my delight, the food selection leaned notably healthy for a change. Though I usually reach for a hearty burger, I was intrigued to find grilled chicken burgers available. Initially skeptical, I took a chance - and I’m pleased I did. Well seasoned and rich in flavour, the chicken reminded me pleasantly of a peri peri marinade. It was every bit as satisfying as a tower burger, yet refreshingly lighter at just 399 calories.
The store also offered a well-curated range of sauces - HP, mustard, ketchup, and even mayonnaise tucked away on a separate stand - all from trusted brands of course. I originally intended to buy just one item but ended up leaving with a selection of snacks, encouraged by both the layout and the good-natured atmosphere.
My only small quibble would be the 20-minute parking limit. Given how easily one can lose track of time browsing and enjoying a meal, an extension to 30 minutes would be a welcome improvement - and a far better fit for the average lunch break.
All told, I shall certainly be returning when next in Alston. My compliments to the team for running such a well-presented and welcoming establishment.

Swans Head
Swans Head, Townhead, AlstonThis is an amazing antiques shop right in the heart of Alston, Cumbria. It has thousands of items which took us quite a while to look around before we bought what we wanted. Even if you do not buy anything it is well worth having a look as there are so many interesting things to see. The owner, Julie is very helpful and knows lots about what she sells.

The Turks Head
Market Place, AlstonSpent 3 evenings out of 5 during our stay in Alston at The Turks Head, no food but great service, lovely warm atmosphere, very welcoming staff and locals, just what a local pub should be like (the Black Sheep was spot on as well!!)

Lovelady Shield Hotel - Book Direct with Paymán Club
Lovelady Lane, AlstonWe stayed in one of the cottages the bedrooms were lovely there were a upstairs bathroom also a shower plus downstairs toilet and a laundry room the kitchen had everything you needed the only problem was the kitchen floor was dirty and the living room was lacking in comfort and needed updating the worst problem was the rug which had turned up corners which was quite dangerous as it was a trip hazard for everyone it was also very dirty its a shame because it took away the lovely building and luxury of the rest of the place as many others have stated in there comments please as the owners do take notice but don't actually do anything about it you have a lovely place so take a little time an get rid of that rug and it would be a lot nicer place which I would love to recommend
