Rose And Crown

B2088, Clayhill, Rye

This review is written for a group of us visiting mid-week lunchtime. We had never been here before, and the entire group was incredibly impressed with the food and service!Alice was very accommodating, and both she and the young gentleman serving were exemplary with their friendliness and customer service.I have been taking this group (sarahclub.uk) to venues across East Sussex and parts of Kent for years, and we all agreed that the Rose and Crown ranks with the very best places we've eaten at.We all had a pre-booked beef roast (a special offered only for weekday group sittings, not normally available during regular weekday lunch). None of us encountered any gristle, chewy bits, or stringy bits in the beef - it was soft, tender, flavourful, and generously served. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, neither hard nor overly soft. The cauliflower cheese was amazing, and there were lovely home-cooked yorkshire puddings with ample hot gravy. We had a choice of four desserts, and the group managed to try all four. Each dessert was fantastic! The pub has a lot of character, very interesting decor, and is dog-friendly. We were even seated next to a lovely wood fire! What a lovely afternoon lunch we all had - thank you to Alice and your staff.

We (hubbie & me) went for the first time on my birthday this week for brunch. Such a lovely place to eat. The food was absolutely delicious, the young man who served us was lovely & we had the sunshine as well! We will definitely be back ?

Will's Bakery & Cafe

Small and very friendly cafe attached to an amazing and very busy bakery. Service was quick and polite, the food so, so good. We all had a variation on full English, which comes with toast and marmalade, as well as really good coffee and tea. All ingredients are locally sourced where applicable, obviously coffee isn't from any part of Sussex, but it was really well made. The marmalade was locally made and very, very good. The quality of food was exceptional, and the atmosphere cosy but comfortable and pleasant. having found it once, we returned again as the toast and marmalade was too good to have just once. Excellent value for money and the "made to order" rolls and sandwiches along with the bakery items were equally as good.

We received a warm welcome, friendly service and a delicious meal while exploring the area for an upcoming house move. Our canine companion was also well cared for, with a comfy blanket provided by the pub, which was a lovely touch.
