Back here for the fourth time this year to try their new tasting menu. As expected the food and service were excellent. Everything was beautifully presented and the sea bass and beef cheek particularly good. Have previously been for Sunday lunch but you had better make a reservation. Must be one of the best gastro pubs in the York area and thoroughly recommended.
Good beer (Sleck Dust; slake thirst, blonde) well kept and fine food (and how!) Mercifully, no starters as full roast beef was more than enough. Big round table takes 15 and was made from reclaimed timbers from old bridge at nearby Aldwark. Top marks for crunchy cabbage with roast vegetables. Extra marks for Yorkshire pudding and quality of gravy. Chocolate fondant sublime. Service perfect including at bar. A faultless performance. Take a bow!

All I can say is absolutely Fantastic Great staff. Great environment food was absolutely beautiful. The muscles were so fresh. The beef just melted in your mouth, and the sticky toffee pudding was out in this world when in York. I will definitely be back thank you so much for the wonderful stay.
