Macphunn’s Bar & Bistro
A815, CairndowMacPhunn’s Bistro in The Creggans Inn, was the venue for our last meal at a week long stay in Loch Fyne. Our booking was only made the previous day and we were told that the bar was possibly the only area left to dine but we were happy to take that table. We ordered drinks and settled ourselves in the bar. We were given menus to browse through and our orders were taken on our booked time. We were then happily led into the restaurant. The bar is quaint and old and the restaurant has a more modern appearance to it. I have to say, the service was great and the food was amazing. I opted for Oyster starter and Highland ‘Coo’ beef steak and ale pie. The meat was succulent, with an amazingly flavoursome gravy (I asked for extra, not because of quantity but because I was enjoying it too much!). Unfortunately we could not persuade the Chef to give his recipe secrets away but he said it was “made from love”. Well, our pallets were certainly well seduced, all topped off with a trio of handmade ice cream, rum and raisin, honeycomb and clotted cream. I have to say it was all top class. Maybe another year before I return again but I can only hope I return to the same service. A lovely end to a lovely holiday. Good service, good food and a sunset to add perfection!
