Carlos Restaurant, 211 King St, Castle DouglasCarlos is an amazing restaurant with great atmosphere there staff are very welcoming there food is cooked perfectly there cod goujons are another level. I also like there dough balls they have loads of dessert options.

Designs Gallery & Cafe
179 King St, Castle DouglasI went with friends on Saturday, (including my dog). The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the food was great. They had a specials menu, which we tried, and the coffee was delicious! Dogs are welcome in the outside area, and there is a large covered area for shade, or from the elements, and dog bowls are dotted around the area. Definitely visiting again!

123-125 King St, Castle DouglasWe loved Marchbank Bakers, we popped in here during a 6h drive to the Isle of Whithorn from Wales. At 9am hungry & in need of some Scottish charm, we found it with great food, coffee & lovely friendly helpful service. As soon as we entered their friendly team showed us they had a 3 for 2 deal on & what was included - we bought 2 pack of scot pies, 4 pack of choc brownies & 4 mixed scones. We also bought 2 coffees & a hot choc, they told us they had a deal, hot drink & a roll with 1 choice of a range of options for £2.95! We chose 1 bacon, 1 flat sausage & 1 haggis, the baps were so good.
All in all we came away completely charmed by the bakery, arms full of food, happy bellies & very pleased we stopped in. Thank you for fueling us!

The Jade Palace

Same staff from when I was a kid about 30 years ago. Prices seem to have busted inflation and the quality of the food and friendliness is great.
Popular with locals, expat locals like me and a great place for excellent and inexpensive food if you are visiting or passing through.

35 King St, Castle DouglasGreat local, family business. Decor a bit tired but clean & homely. Plenty of hot water.! Extra heater supplied ( didn't need it though). Fantastic Scottish breakfast, good choice for evening meal although you need to book at present.. Tables & chairs cleaned after use. Covid compliant. Staff all friendly, welcoming and helpful. Easy walking access to rest of the town. Good position for travelling around the area.

Not serving alchahol either yet.
HOW EVER this little bar, in a small village, is desperately trying to get a foot hold into the community.
New managers are lovely and very hospitable.
Currently they are open and charging a corkage.
But go there for some amazing atmosphere and meet some of the locals.
For those living in palnackie, this bar is a lifeline.
I visited palnakie two weekends ago, and was given a very warm welcome.
I sat, got involved in a quiz, drank my own alchahol and enjoyed a free plate of chips.
Well done Shannon and Jonny.
Thoroughly enjoyed a perfect saturday evening.
I would give 10 stars if I could.

No.1 Fleet Street@The Ship Inn
Fleet St, Gatehouse of Fleet, Castle DouglasHad a lovely meal today. Warmly greeted and shown our table with menus and specials board. We both had tomato soup for starter and I had Sunday lunch and hubby had the steak pie. All delicious. Would definitely recommend.

203 King St, Castle DouglasOrdered a savoury buffet last minute from Wrap ‘n’ Roll, (Lisa saved the day!)….well all I can say is WOW it was one of the best buffets I’ve had, such a great selection of savoury food. 53 King St, Castle DouglasI came here for an experience, that was sadly not met. The appearance of a mad hatters tea party ends when you walk through the doors. The decor is drab and the ice cream counter is empty .. the food however was fantastic I had the best steak pie I ever tasted cooked in lava it was so hot..

Great Wall Takeaway
26B King St, Castle DouglasCastle Douglas doesn't appear to be the Food Town it proports to be when you arrive. We were hard pushed to find anything more unusual than we could get at home. Just Chinese, Indian and Fish and chips.
However, we did have a fine Chinese meal from the Great Wall and the young man serving was incredibly friendly. So, a good experience. Thank you!
