17/19 Eskbank Rd, DalkeithWhat a splendid and immaculate restaurant this is and all under the special eye of the head waiter Barbir Singh. Today the starter of garlic mushroom was very good but the star to follow was the SHATKORA LAMB which was perhaps the best lamb dish in a ggod while. We here looked after by a young lad called Kawsar who treated us like honoured guests. First class lunch at crazy price. Five star 10/10.

Every time I’ve visited and put my name down (including when I’m with friends), we never seem to get picked. It genuinely feels like certain people are being prioritised, as the same individuals are chosen repeatedly while we are consistently skipped. This has happened on multiple occasions, so it no longer feels like a one-off mistake.
When we’ve asked about it, we’re told the host is “going down the list,” but it’s very clear that isn’t the case. Our songs are on the system, I’ve used the same karaoke system before and know the tracks we’re requesting are definitely available, yet we’re still overlooked.
It’s becoming frustrating and takes away from what is otherwise a really enjoyable atmosphere. If the host simply went in order of the list rather than appearing to pick favourites, this would easily be a 5-star experience.

Cafe Troy
Jarnac Court, 15 Jarnac Court, DalkeithCute little cafe in the centre of town. Stopped for just a drink while my dog was at the vet. Cafe is a lot bigger inside than it looks on the outside, there are plenty of tables. I sat outside with my partner.
Prices are fair and the service is great, guy at the till was patient when I asked if they did cold drinks- the menu is towards the side on the wall rather than in front of you- and the lady who was collecting used glasses and plates seemed really sweet.
Only bug bear is there weren’t really any examples of what you could get food wise. I get this is because a lot of the mains are made to order, but a lot of the cakes were sitting in cling film and didn’t look that appealing. They did look nice though, and I regret not ordering a piece.
I’ve heard the milkshakes are good, so I’m definitely going to be returning.
Would be great if it was dog friendly!

The corner cafe
9 Eskdaill St, DalkeithI am disabled, as is my husband. The young male server thought it was very funny to move us from our only chosen seat. He did not ask any questions about our chosen seat, he just laughed and asked us to move......so we went to FORK & MUSTARD instead!! They were welcoming, and the food was delicious!

1-3 Buccleuch St, DalkeithAnyone that knows me I would travel to and far and wide for a great Chinese and WOW ! this is one of the best Freshly cooked and the food is amazing Beef Curry & Mongolian Beef are to die for. Staff are very friendly and a lovely Atmosphere in the Restaurant I traveled all the way from Thurston Manor and it was well worth going I will be a regular customer from now on Thank you ?

Servers were perhaps too focused on serving drinks and were not looking at the door enough. \nMeal was amazing and the wait was very acceptable\nWe were near the door and there was a very cold draught everytime the door opened with people using the toilet or takeaway collections. I think perhaps the outer door was not being closed \n\nWill definitely visit again and would recommend

The Buccleuch
The Buccleuch, 90 High St, DalkeithPub number three in my Dalkeith nostalgia pub day out and a really good stop.
Staff welcoming and friendly and the Guinness was very good.
Comfortable seating with plenty of room for my long legs and lots of big screens for watching sport if that's your thing.
Recommended.

124-128 High St, DalkeithFirst visit last week and won't be the last. Extensive menu and some specials on the blackboard. Large portions (had some leftovers to go), very tasty and authentic Italian food. Helpful, friendly and attentive waiting staff

Jade Garden Chinese Takeaway
28 Woodburn Ave, DalkeithOrdered from here as my regular takeaway (Friendly’s) in Dalkeith was closed. Got the same as I order there. Lemon chicken, chips and mini veggie spring rolls. I ended up ringing in for my delivery, as their website isn’t very user friendly. The guy on the phone was nice and understood when I accidently gave him the wrong postcode lol.
The spring rolls were tasty, large portion of them with chilli sauce. They had been delivered in a foil tray with lid so were a little soggy, but still nice.
The chips were standard chips from the Chinese and were still nice, again a little cold but this standard when getting Chinese delivery.
Lemon chicken had a lovely sauce, tangy and not
too sweet, but the chicken itself was a bit tough.
Prices were good, couple of pounds more expensive than Friendly’s, however that’s because they do a deal there whereas at Jade Garden I ordered everything separately. Not sure if JG does the same, I didn’t ask and didn’t receive a menu in my takeaway bag to check.
Overall I’d order again if Friendly’s was shut, as the food was good, however I think Friendly’s just pips it to the post for me.

1-5 Dalhousie Rd, Eskbank, DalkeithThis is really a nice place. We arrived quite late and the staff told us to quickly submit the orders before the kitchen closes. So thankfully, we sent our orders quickly. There are a few hits and misses with the food. The kids meal sausages were burnt and missing peas. The chicken burger was a bit dry. Know sauce would be good. The steak was chewy and lack sauce.

Friendlies Chinese Food Takeaway
8 St Andrew St, DalkeithBest Chinese in Dalkeith in my opinion, never had a bad Chinese in all the visits I’ve made, food is always piping hot and full of flavour, Portion sizes are generous especially if getting chow Mein dishes or fried rice dishes as these are in larger round containers, The best curry’s and sweet n sour chicken and the salt n pepper dishes are delicious especially salt n pepper chicken balls with extra seasoning and veggies with a side of honey chilli sauce or peking sauce ????

Harrow Hotel
2-4 Eskbank Rd, DalkeithA real locals' pub with lager on tap and racing on the television. It also has Guinness, which was very good. Didn't seem to serve food.
It's not a pub for everyone, but it's unpretentious. You could do a lot worse than spend an hour or two at the Harrow.
