50 Bank St, KilmarnockWe popped in here on friday for a quick bite to eat and a drink while waiting for our train and were pleasantly surprised by our experience. The food was lovely and very reasonably priced, my partner had the double cheeseburger and I had a few starter/ side dishes. Everything came out pretty quickly and exactly how we ordered it. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful, especially Chrissy who took our order at the bar, making sure my partners burger came out right as he always makes a few awkward changes to it but she was very polite and chatty and made it seem like no problem at all. She even talked me into getting a cheeky cocktail instead of my usual OJ & lemonade which was a lovely little treat. Will definitely be back next time we’re in Kilmarnock!

'A Slice Neapolitan Pizzeria
2 Titchfield St, KilmarnockI was looking for a pizza place in Kilmarnock and happily came across this place. It's a simple pizza, really, focusing their efforts on quality of ingredients. The dough is really key here. It's crispy on the exterior but is so soft and tender on the inside. It's not the type of pizza that's overloaded with toppings. This one got the right combination and is not overwhelming. You know the pizza is good when you don't look for a sauce to go with it.It's a takeaway place with exemplary service. It's pretty underrated, to be honest. I thought that I could only get good pizzas in Glasgow. They also give a coupon card that offers a free pizza once you reach 5 stamps.

THE 43 Mexican Tex-Mex & Steakhouse
43 Titchfield St, KilmarnockI can't believe I've never tried this restaurant before. I ordered the mixed grill and a kids burger meal to takeaway. It was fantastic. The lamb, chicken, prawn, and vegetables were so tasty. I also loved the rice. I wanted to order more, but i took it home. My son, who is so picky, finished all of his burger and fries. The friendly staff also provided free churros for my kids while we waited and my wife ordered a margarita. I will definitely go back for a proper dining experience as I loved the decoration, too.

Spice Route Indian Restaurant
38 Kilmarnock Rd, Symington, KilmarnockTraveled out from East Kilbride to try this restaurant as I’d heard good things about the place. Nice clean and comfortable family owned restaurant with spacious tables made for a great start. The owner who was a lovely guy, introduced himself and asked what kind of food we would usually order from a curry menu and then offered us some ideas on what to try as the menu is not a standard curry restaurant menu. They really do different dishes and we had some starters and a few main dishes to try which was a first time trying and all of them were stunning. We had the Bhel Poori which was pulses, nuts, red onion and coriander in a tamarind chutney served with mini poppadoms, so fresh with a slight lime zing. We also had what was called a ‘65’, chicken (also available as cauliflower) marinated in garlic, chilli and curry leaf with butter and cream, very like a pakora, which was stunning! For mains we had the Chicken Chettinad and the Lamb Passanda served with rice and an Onion Kulcha bread. Again - stunning! The lamb was so soft and the depth of flavour in the Passanda was dynamite. Couldn’t leave without trying their dessert menu and we had Ferrero Rocher Ice cream and a Pistachio ice cream. My wife who’s an ice cream connoisseur, said it was probably the nicest ice cream she’s ever tried. All really great quality ingredients cooked faultlessly. The price was very fair considering the outstanding quality of every dish. Highly recommend taking a trip to this restaurant for amazing curry that differs from the norm. I’ll be back next week to try more! ???♥️ (“,)Vegetarian options: Half of the owners family are vegetarian, so he caters extensively across all of the menu with meat free options. I’m sure the Bhel Poori is vegetarian starter, and even as a meat eater myself, I’d order this again! It was so good. ?

Kings Arms
89 Main Rd, Fenwick, KilmarnockFood was excellent and not your usual pub grub. Service was a bit slow considering the pub was very quite which lacked any atmosphere, however that could have been because we were dining mid afternoon. Weston Tavern & Restaurant
25-27 Main St, Kilmaurs, KilmarnockThe food was excellent. Both dishes were very large portions. Also visited on a Wednesday evening where they give you a free dessert when purchasing a main meal. The only downside was that the service was very slow between courses, and the booth table was very tight. Opt for a floor table for some extra space. Despite this, we will definitely go again.

Frydays
3 Innellan Dr, KilmarnockFood is terrific and the staff are lovely. Parking is not bad as there is a bit near Frydays that you can park at. But recently that parking bit has been full with the winter wonderland event at Dean Castle. Other than that, the place is great, I highly recommend, and also its good to go to since The Plaice To Be is shut, maybe forever. Some people were saying the Plaice to be was coming back, but it hasn't, so maybe that was somewhere else, but it said Kilmarnock, and there only is one in Kilmarnock I think.Parking: Not bad, you can park outside the shop and in a little concrete parking area as I mentioned in my review. The bit behind the shop however is reserved for employees only. Not sure if that is the case for delivery drivers.Kid-friendliness: Children are welcome and I don't see how they wouldn't be, so bring your kids if you like and they will have a great time watching all the staff make their food.

Cook School Cafe, Takeaway & Shop
Moorfield Park, 7, KilmarnockThis is our 2nd year having Christmas dinner in a box. We will have it again next year. It was easy to do and the food is good quality. There were some changes this year and I've reflected that in the stars. The canapies were large but the fillings were too strong. I like goats cheese but the one used here just wasn't nice or it may have been the walnuts - it drew my cheeks in. The starter as last year and main were great. Starter was chicken liver parfait with brioche and was lovely and the turkey Wellington was delicious. The pudding was another change this year to individual baked alaska, whilst tasty enough they did taste very sugary, I realise that's how meringue is made but sugar taste is normally more subtle. The cheese selection and oaties was perfect and the portions achievable for 4 very generous. This brings me on to the final change from last year yje instructions... they were gobbledegook in places and really need looked at. Last year included a video which backed up very simple put this in now put this in. This year it was put in for 15 min now after 15 min do this then give 15 min leave 10 min and 15 minute into cooking time do x. Which 15 minute is it the first or the last or what, needed to be clearer. Ended up finding the total cooking time and ensuring that was met as well as cutting Wellington in half to ensure fully cooked meaning no bringing to table for presentation. On the whole a very high 8 out of 10 and the issues were relatively minor. Will definately return next Christmas made the lunch very easy to make and was mostly delighted with this.

Kings Arms
89 Main Rd, Fenwick, KilmarnockFood was excellent and not your usual pub grub. Service was a bit slow considering the pub was very quite which lacked any atmosphere, however that could have been because we were dining mid afternoon. The only negative was the bar was not particularly warm which detracted from the excellent food.

The Saltire Bar
8 Langlands St, KilmarnockThis is a family run pub minutes from the train station. Dog friendly, you can bring your own food. Wonderful staff and friendly locals. All sports shown, a killer jukebox, lovely beer garden and just minutes from everything in the town. The pool table is the best I've seen. Never heard of any trouble. The two resident dogs, paco and benji, chiwawas, are the security (bring a wee biscuit).

The golden arrow
55 The Foregate, KilmarnockA little slow with service&the waiting staff need to carry more than one mug to a table, train up their staff&I can see it taking off! Fritters are to thick, they need to leave them in longer or cut them thinner however the rest of my meal was lovely! If they take on these minor criticisms then I can see word of mouth allowing them to be an established place where people go for a sit down breakfast/lunch or dinner ?

The Crown Inn
25 High Glencairn St, KilmarnockVery friendly wee pub with reasonable prices & good selection of beers & spirits. 60s music was playing which helped create a fun atmosphere. Was surprisingly busy for a Monday afternoon/evening which I always think is a good sign.

Brownings The Bakers Ltd
Bonnyton Industrial Estate, Munro Pl, KilmarnockI've only ever eaten one pie from - and in - Kilmarnock and it was bloody brilliant, but their cakes are definitely worth mentioning. The fondant fancy is recommended, as is their caramel tart.

2 Galston Rd, Hurlford, KilmarnockThe Thack Inn is a great village pub in the true sense and dog friendly. You are always assured a friendly welcome and a good pint but don't take your mum or granny if they are adverse to the odd expletive! A great place.
