I'm so glad I found this gem of a restaurant after moving to Stafford and even better it's halal- I've tried quite a few of the chef special dishes and the shish chicken and lamb and it's always really yummy and the meat is so soft. The starters are even better in my opinion, absolutely love the Turkish sausage and the king prawns ? good service, good food, good mocktails ?

The staff are so well trained. The food is always delicious. It’s our most favourite place in Stafford. Kate looked after us very well today.
7.5% service charge is a bit meagre when most places add 10%. You guys are a cut above most and deserve it.

Cod Roe is worth a try!!

Never had it before but it was really nice, having a fish and chip special with sauce separate and no salt and vinegar adding it at home as you like it... To me the chips are great without salt and vinegar so i add my liking at home.

As someone who runs not one but two hospitality businesses, finding time for a little luxury like afternoon tea is a rare treat. For years, I’ve heard glowing reviews of Cup a Char and driven past more times than I care to admit—always meaning to stop, but never quite managing it. Today, with a rare couple of spare hours and my 18-month-old in tow, I finally made that long-overdue visit… and I’m so glad I did.

First things first—booking? I hadn’t. And despite the place being clearly bustling with happy customers, the team welcomed us with open arms (and warm smiles). It’s a rarity these days to walk into such a busy venue and immediately feel at ease, but Cup a Char pulled it off with grace and charm.

The food? Absolutely faultless. Fresh, beautifully presented, and every bite bursting with flavour. It’s the kind of fare that doesn’t just meet expectations—it exceeds them, then invites them back for dessert.

But where Cup a Char really shines is in its service. Friendly, genuine, and full of personality—the staff made us feel like regulars from the moment we stepped through the door. My little girl was completely smitten, and honestly, so was I.

This place is more than just a tea room—it’s an experience. A little slice of Staffordshire magic. I’ll absolutely be returning when time allows, and I’ll be recommending Cup a Char to everyone I know. Stafford’s sparkling gem, and one I’m delighted to have finally discovered

We were here for lunch for the first time on a day in Stafford and after initially struggling to find anywhere on the main street, we found this gem of a place, a large, ancient building situated in a fabulous position by the church, on the corner of a pretty little medieval lane. We immediately realised how popular this establishment it, it was very busy with a queue to be seated but we didn't have to wait long and the staff were attentive, friendly and professional, the manager kept us all updated and we were given menus to peruse while waiting. We were guided ta a generously sized table for two in an area of waitered service, there are also other non-waitered areas. We didn't have to wait long to be served and our meals arrived more quickly than I expected! The food is top notch and large portions, my jacket potato was in fact *3 potato halves with a very tasty and generous coronation chicken topping and freshly prepared salad! My partner opted for chilli, rice and some chips, a good bowl of chilli and not just piles of rice and he really enjoyed it. I couldn't *not* have a pudding as I had noticed some meringues on the extensive menu which are a favourite of mine and being gluten free I was pleased to see decent pudding options, so selected a mini pavlova, while my partner had a cheesecake with cherries. My pavlova was perfect, piled high with whipped cream and mixed fruits, properly made meringue, I couldn't even finish all the fruit and cream so after my partner polished off his large piece of cheesecake he helped with this ;) We both really enjoyed the food we had, it was delicious. The coffee was also good and my mocha coffee with cream had a mound of properly rich whipped cream rather than canned squirty stuff which I dislike. We were very full after our meal and didn't need tea that night! The manager(owner) was exemplary; friendly, polite, attentive, and is obviously a well-liked local figure, he even gave us a guided tour of the place which is astonishingly large with several floors and a rooftop terrace! If I lived in Stafford I would be here every week! There is an obvious emphasis here on quality and high standards, with delicious home-cooked food and efficient, attentive customer service which is second to none. You cannot fail to appreciate the dedication of this family-run establishment, they truly value and respect their customers and manage to find time for everyone, what a sheer pleasure our experience was, if only more places could be like this, I would recommend it to all.

Wow! Amazing food again from the Spread Eagle. This is the second time we have been in and it won’t be the last. We have eaten both times off the Tapas menu 5 for £25 is such good value for money as the portions are decent. (I ate so fast I forgot to take photos :) ) . The tapas dessert menu is also amazing definitely try the Nutella mini doughnuts and it’s great you can get 3 tapas style desserts and have abit of everything you fancy. Worth a try and can recommend. Also lovely friendly staff.

stayed overnight in our campervan 7/8/25 and had a lovely time. from the initial phone all I made enquiring to stay the staff were warm, friendly, welcoming and genuinely lovely. the pub itself is absolutely adorable and we spent the evening tucked in a little nook and playing with the multitude of adorable dogs that the locals had brought in. The dogs were a highlight to be honest, super cute - Sausage and Bean you made our night!!! the food was really nice, we had the ploughman's platters, chips, sausage roll and baked camembert between the four of us- all absolutely lovely and the chips were piping hot, fresh and crispy! the garden is lovely with a play area and chickens! lovely views of the countryside. we live a long way away but next time we are up this neck of the woods we will definitely be back! thank you for having us - wish you were my local and you are lots of fun.
