Lovely garden cafe for a bite. The smoothie was unexpectedly delicious with a hit of lemongrass. The ladies were very friendly and we came back twice while we were in town for the week!

The Penrally House is how a B&B should be. Steve is a great host. The hotel and rooms are great. The breakfast is AMAZING!
We've been twice and looking to go back again soon.
Seeing the lakes as well as seeing the Red Kites, is the cherry on top!

Wild Swan Whole Foods

4 West St, Rhayader

Delightful shop with good range of foods of all sorts, except fresh fruit and veg as far as I remember , but you can get them a couple of doors down. Local breads and pastries, cheeses and other dairy products, generously filled quiches etc., lots made on the premises (so the proprietor is a little rushed and understandably brisk at times, trying to serve customers while beating the bara brith! but very smiley and warm). Lovely ranges of tea and coffees, chutneys and condiments, soups and yoghurts, ..... Don't miss it.

Parking: parking on street if you are lucky - which we were twice out of three visits.

Roadside Delight (Monica's Munchies)

Marteg Bridge Lay-by, A470, Rhayader

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Monica’s Munchies, a fantastic local food van that serves delicious hot meals. We treated ourselves to a lovely bacon sandwich, and it was absolutely mouthwatering. The bacon was perfectly cooked—crispy and flavorful—nestled between fresh, soft bread that made for a delightful combination.

What truly stood out during our visit was the dedication of the man running the van. He was working tirelessly all day, ensuring everything was prepared fresh and served with a smile. His passion for providing great food was evident in every interaction, making the experience feel warm and inviting.

If you’re in the area and craving a hearty meal, definitely stop by Monica’s Munchies. You’ll not only enjoy a satisfying bite but also appreciate the hard work and commitment that goes into every order. It’s the perfect spot to grab a quick bite while supporting a hardworking local vendor!

Excellent gluten free options, including fish, battered sausage and chicken bites. All chips are gluten free as they are fried separately. Me and my three children have coeliac disease so we're really pleased to find somewhere to eat when on holiday. It was lovely food with great service.

On way home and wanted somewhere to stop for food, come across the crown inn online and booked a table. Arrived to a lively friendly welcome, had a couple of drinks and food. Absolutely amazing, and unable to eat my full meal was provided with a container to take the rest away. Will definitely be going back.

I was staying across the road at sister business Ty Morgans for a couple nights and visited the Lamb and Flag both evenings. The three girls working the bar / front of house last night (Tues 17th) are an absolute credit to the business. I hope to visit again soon.

Overall enjoyed the hour we spent there. My wife loved her cod and chips. Fish was apparently very fresh. My Welsh lamb burger was a bit dry. Service was great. Very cheerful. It was a bit quiet, but what more can you expect on a changeable day weather wise, and it was a Thursday. The two locals we spoke to at the bar were cheerful and a definite Welsh sense of humour. All in all it was worth the visit. ?
