48-50 Galgate, Barnard CastleThe most welcoming and friendly pubs in Barnard Castle. The staff are awesome and you will receive the best and friendliest welcome from everyone, staff and customers! The food is great and well worth a stop if you are in the area. And they even have karaoke on a Saturday night!! And they'll even let you sing Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Greenday.......and it's 6 minutes long!!!! Do yourself a favour, and go there!!!!

The Crown at Mickleton
Mickleton, Barnard CastleVisited a couple of times when staying in the village. Friendly welcome and responsive when double checking serving times and making a booking. Enjoyed a beer in the garden at the end of a walk. Food was great and we were tempted by the three courses which we enjoyed. Good atmosphere with a mix of diners and space for regulars to have a drink.

9 Market Pl, Barnard CastleGreat Indian restaurant with a bit of a different menu. Only just managed to get in booking about 4 days in advance so definitely plan ahead and book before going. Nice welcome when you get in and can wait near the bar until you’re seated. It’s quite small and cramped especially when busy but ok when you’re sat down. The menu is a little different with small and large plates and the food just comes out when it’s ready, like a tapas menu. The flavours were so good. The prawn curry was fantastic, they keep it in the shell for flavour and it works. The chicken 65 had a great flavour, just wish there was a bit more. The lamb chops were wonderful. Quite fatty and flavoursome. Great service. The waiter and waitress talked us through everything and checked on some things when unsure. Overall excellent experience and great food.

What a fantastic restaurant! The food was really good and staff were so accommodating with our choices.
I had the prawn katsu curry and I can honestly say it’s the best I’ve ever eaten! I would not hesitate to recommend.

14 Horse Market, Barnard CastleHighlight of our day finding the Crobar. We visited Barnard Castle with family and friends and the staff immediately offered to move two tables together for us to all be seated together. The staff were all so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us and we felt well catered for. The food was delicious and the presentation was lovely, we all enjoyed sharing and tasting the variety of cuisine and the atmosphere was so nice, we enjoyed having a lovely shaded area as we visited during a heatwave, so the shade was much appreciated.
Highly recommend the Crobar and we will definitely be visiting again!

I lot of discussions were had about their award winning pies, but I really wanted to check out the Fish and chips. They were brilliant. So we bought pies to take home!

10 Horse Market, Barnard CastleGreat, fresh, modern place which has clearly been lovingly created within an old building. Staff friendly. Chap gave us a bit of history of the place and his times as a DJ (which explained the great ambient music). Fabulous products on sale easily compare to that of renowned chocolatiers I've had elsewhere. First thing we checked when we got home was to see if they delivered! Good to see a business thriving on today's high street.

The Kirk Inn
Romaldkirk, Barnard CastleHad to make a return visit to this special country pub when we were staying in the area. Very much as we remembered it and enjoyed the welcome from the memorable landlord and his lovely dogs. As others have said, one real ale is available but it was a good pint and that suits me! Was nice to see some of the locals gathering to hold a meeting of some sort when we visited. We have to keep these places going!

The pre 6pm fixed price menu fills the restaurant with families. We had a range of pizza, pasta and primi piatti, all cooked and presented beautifully. Good wines available too, helped round out a long, enjoyable evening.

34 Galgate, Barnard CastleTried here this evening with my work colleague ordered chicken chowmein, a bag of chips and some vegetables spring rolls.. chowmein I asked for with some oyster sauce very fair sized portion was impressed, the chips was a very large bag from what I'm used to getting back home, and the spring rolls I got 12 of those.. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal the chowmein was outstanding, chips really nice aswell & as for the spring rolls they tasted outstanding aswell cost for the meal £13 quid pretty reasonable priced to be honest and a quick service aswell, so thanks! Lovely friendly staff, fresh cooked and nicely presented fish and chips and scampi and chips. Competetively priced.
Got very busy especially saturday when a singer was on so maybe a good idea to book.
