Laurel Bank Tea Room and bar
Biggar Rd, Broughton, BiggarWell, I had to go really as my with house was Laurel Bank, Gresford!
Its like walking into someone's front room and being made to feel really welcome. A lovely fireplace makes the front parlour effect perfect.
We were in our motorhome so turned left into the road with this tea room settled on it and parked up on the left, no trouble. You can probably park on the main street but at 6m long, we're better finding a quieter road.
It must be pretty special as everyone already in there greeted us as we walked in. The lady who served us was friendly, efficient and hard working. She cared for us and especially the elderly couple on the next table. It was special to watch a business put so much into their cakes and drinks and social care.
We just had coffees and cake! There's so much more to this little pot of loveliness. You can buy tablet fudge...glorious, and as many different types of wonderful soap as your budget allows. Pottery, mugs and more. Why not support a business like this with so many lovely items to buy as well as food and drinks? They provided lunch and pudding as well as cake. Go on, treat yourself and if you can, tip too. Service and care like this deserve care themselves. But don't drive too fast or you'll miss the turning!

The Crown Inn

Aroma
88 High St, BiggarFreshly prepared tasty food served by friendly staff. I had a link sausage roll, made with proper meaty butchers sausages not the mass produced frozen variety. My partner enjoyed a delicious cheese scone. Our first time dining there and it won’t be our last!

The Fryery
110 High St, BiggarThe food is top tier but I can never decide between the fish (sadly not Cod but once you taste it you won't care) or the sausage which is the greatest I have ever had not made by my dear old Mum. The staff are dlightful and the locals friendly.

Cross Keys
1 High St, BiggarCalled in on our way home from a weekend away for lunch. It was very quiet with only 2 people eating when we arrived. We wanted a roast lunch as it was a Sunday but were told they weren't doing it so we had steak pie. Cannot fault the steak - it melted as soon as you touched it with a knife. Lots of HUGE chunks of perfectly cooked beef in lovely gravy. We found out when 2 new people asked for roast dinner that the pub had been flooded the day before due to torrential rain and that's why there was no roast!!!

The Big Red Barn Company
South Melbourne Farm, Elsrickle,, BiggarTook the family for lunch recently. Really enjoyed the tagliatelle, with home made by Errington Cheese, crowdie, and beautiful squash plus hazelnuts, which combined for a delicious experience. My difficult to please son had the Italian sausage rarebit, which came on a brioche base. Again, unexpected combination of flavours was delicious. Sadly, we were driving so no wine for us, but a good selection on offer. Also interesting was the cheese pairing menu which included suggestions for a small piece of cheese (nearly all Errington) and interesting, high quality accompaniments. Gingerbread, honeycomb and fig jam being some. Although it was a busy afternoon and the restaurant was full, tge service was very smooth and efficient with friendly knowledgeable staff.
All in all, a great experience.
