Laurel Bank Tea Room and bar
Biggar Rd, Broughton, BiggarWhen the nearby Dawyck Gardens cafe had a slow-moving, lengthy queue we abandoned the idea of lunch there and stopped off at Laurel Bank en route home to Biggar (5 miles away). We've been previously to the tea room, which has had a number of reincarnations over the years, but it is currently back to being a fairly traditional tea room. It is still licensed to sell alcohol and amongst the drinks available are bottles of the local Broughton Brewery beers (very good). The menu covers snacks, more substantial hot meals and cakes of course. On this occasion we had a Cheese, ham & chutney Ciabatta with mayo on the side by request (£8.50) and French Toast with bacon & maple syrup (£11.00). Both were tasty and filling. We had coffee along with the food and as this was also good we decided to have another cup each to have with our Victoria Sponge Cake (£5.50) and Carrot Cake - 2 slices provided - (£4.50). Overall bill was £37 which is fairly typical these days for this good standard of offering. (The strawberry tart in my photos was from our visit in August 2023 - nice enough but a bit expensive in our view). The owner, who is friendly and chatty, also operates the Olde Toll Tea House at West Linton which we have yet to try.

The Crown Inn
109-111 High St, BiggarWhat a find! Food was delicious and plentiful portions. Decent beer selection.Service was fast, food was cooked perfectly. We had crispy chicken strips and blackened pork belly for starters. All the chicken strips were juicy and not dry at all, even the thinnest ones. The pork was melt in the mouth good and plenty of it. My partner had the red snapper and it was lovely and flavoursome. I had haddock and possibly the best chips I’ve ever had. We felt bad as we just couldn’t finish it all but it was delicious.Great attention to detail. Lovely photos of bygone days on the walls and a cosy open fireplace give the bar and restaurant areas a great traditional vibe. Our servers were extremely accommodating and friendly. Smiles all round

Zest
69 High St, BiggarGreat place for a lunchtime snack & a coffee.Had to make a couple of attempts to get served due to a couple of lingering tourist types as well as it being the school break-time, so the place was heaving (always a good sign)Had a really good bacon and Lorne sandwich baguette, and a coffee. Tinto Hotel
44 Biggar Rd, Symington, BiggarWe booked a couple of nights away for our honey/mini moon. A few weeks before the hotel contacted me to see if we wanted a double or twin room and i explained that we were coming for our honeymoon so requested a double. Imagine our surprise when we arrived to find out we had been upgraded to the hotels honeymoon suite.... never before have we stayed in such luxury.... we honestly didn't want to leave the hotel. The staff were amazing, dinner was amazing and breakfast was amazing. We will definitely be returning to this fabulous hotel as it will now always be our special place
