10 Dunrobin St, HelmsdaleExcellent place to stop, eat and drink, at any time of the day. Fantastic staff, very friendly, and dogs allowed. We stopped here and my partner had a very tasty Brie and bacon toastie,and I had a magnificent sweet chilli chicken sandwich. Washed down with a generous pot of tea. The place was clean and well appointed, with a toilet. The menu looked tasty, with various hot dinner choices, as well as soups, sandwiches, pizza, etc. so, you will be spoilt for choice. Lots of different teas, and proper coffee. No scrimping on taste, and portions. Parking easy, we literally parked outside. You will not be disappointed if you stop here.

The River Bothy
A9, BerriedaleThis place is a wee gem. So friendly with fresh food and amazing cakes. We enjoyed lunch outside in the sun and returned later for tea and cake after a walk. Definitely one to return to.

La Mirage Restaurant
La Mirage, 7-9 Dunrobin St, HelmsdaleWe ate here 3 times over the course of a week. My husband and I bought a property in Helmsdale, and stayed in a local cottage while waiting to get the keys to our new home. We liked La Mirage so much, we even ate there once after we got the keys, before we'd had a chance to make a trip to the grocery store to stock up our own kitchen. The chips (French fries) here are literally THE BEST I've ever eaten. Super crispy on the outside, and pillowy and perfect on the inside. They're so good, that they blew a 30-year old memory of the perfect chip held by a little Chinese take away on Gardner street in Glasgow, which has caused 3 entire decades worth of finding any other chip I encountered lacking in some way or other. (They truly were that good.) My husband got fish and chips at least 2 of the visits, because it was perfectly cooked, in the most amazing crispy batter, and absolutely huge. Even the take away version of the haddock and chicken nuggets (hands down the best nuggets I've ever eaten- juicy and crisp, all breast meat) came with a massive bag of chips. I had the Chicken Maryland, an on-the-bone fried chicken breast which came with one banana and one pineapple fritter (both yummy!) On two visits we tried appetizers, the fried mushrooms (excellent) and the second visit we tried the onion ring and cheese rings combo. SO GOOD. While my husband is a dedicated carnivore, I tend toward the veggie side of things, so I really appreciated that the sides were all so good and even the appetizers came with small salads that were tasty. The ranch or buttermilk dressing had a lovely depth of flavor, and I appreciate that there was vinegar and oil on the tables, as it's my first choice for dressing a salad. We will definitely be eating here regularly- because not only is the food top notch, the service is exemplary...the owner pops out at least once to ask if everything is cooked well and if you're happy. He noted I hadn't eaten much of my hamburger and asked if it needed to be redone. (I was tired, we'd had an appetizer that day, and it was meat...that was all.) The wait staff is also on top of things, regularly passing by to check if we need anything or to take away plates we no longer needed. I also find the quirky decor charming- every time you turn your head, you're met by something odd or different that makes you smile, or starts a conversation. Also- while we never had them- the dessert list from this place is ASTONISHING, offering a wide variety of items that look like they came straight out of a magazine photoshoot.

The Bannockburn Inn
Stafford St, HelmsdaleWe visit our friend Every year in helmsdale Scotland, and this time we went for a meal at the Bannockburn inn, as soon as we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly lady who asks us what drinks we would like.then we ordered our meals which came quickly our meals were very hot and very tasty we will definitely be paying another visit next year and would highly recommend.thank you Jacqui and Steve.

River Cafe
1, Timespan, Dunrobin St, HelmsdaleSadly I never got any pictures inside but this is a lovely little cafe, you can sit inside or head out to the garden which is next to the river.
I ordered what I thought was a normal fruit scone (just raisins) but it included a lot more including lemon peel. There were almonds on the top which I missed and had to scrape off. The kids enjoyed their crepes though. A nice little place to sit and relax.

Belgrave Arms Hotel
Dunrobin St, HelmsdaleStaying for 10 nights due to working in the area. Rooms are brilliant the service is brilliant. Food is fantastic. One of the best places I've ever stayed in ? and I've stayed in alot of hotels over the years due to work and this is definitely one of the best

Stumbled upon this fantastic spot while driving the NC500 and what a discovery! The Tartan Lounge and Bar Restaurant in Helmsdale completely exceeded expectations. The food was nothing short of amazing – everything we ordered was packed with flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. The burger was juicy and towering, fries perfectly crisp, and the haggis bites? Out of this world.
Service was superb – friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm. You really get the feeling that they care about every guest who walks through the door. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, striking a perfect balance between a relaxed bar vibe and a quality dining experience.
This place is a true hidden gem along the NC500 route. If you're passing through Helmsdale, don’t miss it – it’s one of the best meals we've had on the journey. Highly, highly recommended. We left absolutely happy ❤️

Shore St, HelmsdaleThese experiences are unique where the quality of the seafood could match any top restaurant and it certainly did - and you want to prove the sceptics wrong.This is no ordinary food van Firstly it is located in the picturesque harbour of Helmsdale. The staff are so friendly engaging knowledgeable and passionate about their job The seafood is all fresh and caught by the owner who is a fisherman We had a langoustine salad which was generous reasonably priced at £8 considering how expensive langoustine are A scallop and monkfish skewer was being prepared as we waited and could not resist an image - we were tempted but unfortunately we had made other arrangements further up the coast
