Restaurants in Chapel Stile
The Talbot Bar
Lake District National Park, Skelwith Bridge Hotel, AmblesideQuite disappointed with our recent visit here.
Have Been coming to this premises for 20+ years.
Visited yesterday!
Staff were very friendly and service was excellent. Establishment was clean as always and I couldn’t fault it.
Food on the other hand was terrible
Steak and ale pie from the restaurant was the best I’ve ever had for many years of visiting Until yesterday’s visit, not sure why it has changed. Too much pastry and meat was rubbish. Meat was piping by and then cold on other parts and pretty much bland with no taste! The old dish was massively better and I am gutted it has been altered either due to new catering team or in general.
The side dish of garlic bread was sent immediately back as was genuinely appalling and never had garlic bread as bad as that in my life.
I really hope this was a one off blip, the talbot has been our favourite place to visit for 20+ years in the lakes. We have never had an issue the whole time visiting.
Fingers crossed!
We will return.

Wainwrights' Inn
Chapel Stile, AmblesideFantastic place to stop for some drinks and grub.
We stayed at the Langdale Spa and decided to pop in twice during our stay.
The pub is around a 8 minute walk from the Langdale Spa, and it has a lovely view outside looking over the small town of Chapel Stile.
The waiters were very friendly and entertaining throughout and the service was fantastic.
Excellent draft beer / larger / ale selections, and food is fantastic for the price.
We had the classic fish and chips, and a salmon dish. For me personally, the fish and chips couldn’t get any better! Spot on.
Brilliant place to stop - and for the evenings there are benches outside with heaters to keep you warm whilst you’re enjoying the evening.

Stove Restaurant & Bar
Great Langdale, AmblesideI came here with friends and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much before coming in. I was very surprised, the menu was well stocked but not too much on there to confuse. I had a venison lasagne which was a perfect portion size. We ordered cocktails as aperitif's which were well made (dry martini for me) and followed by beers which were great. Server was a young school chap who treated us well. Wowed by the food and great service. Ambience was there, not too quiet but not too loud so you could hear you friends. Has a lounge that we retreated to for further drinks after our meal. Would recommend for a change of pace from pub food if you are in the Lakes!
