Mathilde’s Café
Heaton Cooper Studio, Grasmere, AmblesideWonderful place. Stopped in for a reviving pot of tea after a walk around the lake. Sunny, buzzy and a delicious Scandi inspired menu. Best hot cross bun I’ve ever had. Gingerbread also very tasty. ? All the other food we saw coming out looked amazing too (hot dogs, schnitzels). Art gallery is quality with some skilful water colours of the local landscapes on show.

Lucia's Coffee + Bakehouse
College St, Grasmere, AmblesideTop notch sausage rolls. Pastry is flaky but not heavy, and the sausage meat and seasoning is perfect. Fantastic bakery, but beware not really anywhere to sit inside on a rainy day.

Heidi’s Cafe
Red Lion Square, Grasmere, AmblesideWhere shall I start, this place is a little Gem, we had eaten breakfast here before and where told whilst eating that there where lovely rooms above the cafe that the owner let out and we should come back and try one, we'll we did and it didn't dissappoint, it's self check in so a code is sent to you for the main front door once inside there is a draw with your room number on and inside there is the keys your your room, the rooms where beautiful, the view was out in to the beautiful village of Grasmere, the bathroom had a bath and shower and was lovely and clean infact everything looked brand new, there was everything in the room you needed, lovely big bed with beautiful linen, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer, plugs by the bed must have, room was lovely and warm for when we arrived, and although self check in, as we arrived arround 3 o'clock the cafe was still open so we had a lovely warm welcome, breakfast is included in the room price and served in the beautiful cafe under the rooms, you fill a form out and make sure it is down stairs before 7am with your chosen time, my husband had the full breakfast which was both quality and quantity, as i have many food allergies i just requested a couple of slices of gluten free toast with butter and Jam and this was not a problem, coffee was refillable and extra toast was offered, all in all everything was amazing and we would highly recommend

Baldry's Grasmere
Red Lion Square, Grasmere, AmblesidePopped in to Baldrys Cottage on Saturday 24th February for a cream tea, dogs very much welcomed with a doggy biscuit on arrival. Our order was taken and then we were served with china tea cups and tea with tea leaves, all very English. The tea room had a lovely atmosphere and Abbie our waitress was a delight. The scone and tea were delicious. Even the facilities were quirky. Would definitely revisit. Thank you Baldry's.

Grasmere Tea Gardens
Church Bridge/Stock La, AmblesideThe hot apple cinnamon is delightful with a slice of lemon cake. The views of the gardens and water is something out of a Woolworth poem. Oh wait, he happens to be buried right around the corner.

Lewis's Bistro
Broadgate, GrasmereHad a delightful dinner at Lewis's. The food was superb ( rack of lamb, roasted belly pork, black pudding starters with creamy mushrooms, bakewell tart etc). Salt and pepper chips were to die for apparently. Excellent range of GF options. Lovely waiting staff. Very competitive price for the excellence of the food. Good portion sizes. Have holidayed in Grasmere for 15yrs now and this is our first ever visit. I wish we'd gone in before!!!. Thoroughly recommended.

Harley's Bistro & Café Bar
2 College St, Grasmere, AmblesideThere are plenty of eateries to choose from in Grasmere, but this one caught my eye! It's in a former Methodist chapel in the centre of the village. There are a few outside tables, and a pleasant and welcoming indoor space with a quaint timbered ceiling. Very quiet when I was there, but then it was a rainy Monday in March! The two young waitresses were attentive and friendly. There's a well stocked bar where you can get beer, wine, gin and a great choice of cocktails. I ordered a very refreshing apple and raspberry soft drink. The menu offered a good selection of sandwiches, pizzas, burgers and hot meals, and there were a couple of special dishes of the day. Ordered a chowder full of smoked haddock, leeks and bacon, topped with onions and a poached egg. There were other vegetables in it too, and it was served with two chunks of warm crusty bread. A delicious light meal, well cooked, and very warming on such a cold wet day! The bread was really soft and fresh too. There's a tempting selection of cakes and desserts. Dogs are welcome here, and you can get doggy treats and ice-cream for them. A nice place to have lunch if you're walking or sightseeing around Grasmere.
