Restaurants in Grasmere

Heidi’s Cafe
Red Lion Square, Grasmere, AmblesideA warm welcome greeted us as soon as we walked into Heidi's cafe, the staff are very friendly and Craig took time to spoil our pug Floki with dog biscuits. The full English breakfast was delicious, as was the loose leaf tea and filter coffee. Will definitely visit again and again when we're in Grasmere. Highly recommend.

Baldry's Grasmere
Red Lion Square, Grasmere, AmblesideA small late afternoon lunch and a spot of tea....when in Grasmere for gingerbread, it would be rude to not call in here, too. Just remember, traditional tea needs a strainer.

Mathilde’s Café
Heaton Cooper Studio, Grasmere, AmblesideDelicious brunch at Mathilde's this morning!
We had the chalk trout, breakfast bun and shared a potato rosti. My only critique is that I wish the dish included the other half of the egg ?.
We also got the miso caramel toscakaka to take away and eat by the lake which was sensational!
Can't wait to visit again soon.

Lucia's Coffee + Bakehouse
College St, Grasmere, AmblesideJust delicious food. We bought sandwiches, cakes and drinks and ate them in the park. Good value and would highly recommend.
Vegetarian options: There are two veggie sandwiches. One is cheddar cheese, salad and an apricot chutney (delicious). The other is coronation chick peas I think. The bread is a fabulous focaccia.

Poet's Cafe & Bar
The Lancrigg, Easedale Rd, GrasmereSumptuous and relaxed lunch after a long walk.
Despite the Google map and help from passersby in the neighbourhood, it took us a while to get to the restaurant as there was no board that said 'Poet's cafe'.
But that was all. We loved the food, service with a smile, and the ambience. It was well worth the effort to get there. Thank you.

Tweedies Restaurant
3 Red Lion Cottages, Grasmere, AmblesideWe had a Sunday roast here which was very good. High quality food and good portions, the service was also excellent. It was very busy in the bar/restaurant so make sure you book.
Vegetarian options: Good nut roast

Lewis's Bistro
Broadgate, GrasmereHonestly one of the best meals we've had in a very long time. We arrived an hour later than our booking as we'd got the time wrong but this was not issue, the book was full of bookings but they still managed to fit us in. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the French onion soup so tasty. We both had the lamb and it was so tasty and tender and the dauphinoise were to die for. To finish we shared a sticky toffee pudding and again it was sensational. Everything from the food to the service was top notch. 100% recommended from us.

Grasmere Tea Gardens
Church Bridge/Stock La, AmblesideWe've visited the Lake District every year for the last few years around our birthdays and we've made a point of visiting Grasmere on the way back for 2 reasons: the gingerbread shop and to have lunch at the tea gardens. The tea gardens have absolutely lovely food, lovely staff, and a really nice view of the river in the outdoor seating area at the back. I'm sure we'll be back next year.
Only thing to be aware of is it can get quite busy around lunch some days so depending on what time you're going there may be a short wait outside. It's worth it though!
