Pedro's Casa
128 Stricklandgate, KendalVery enjoyable evening, about half of the tables occupied at 7.30pm on a Sunday evening. We’d reserved a table and as requested it was accessible for me (mobility issues). Lovely staff explained the portion sizes & ordering system as it was our first visit. The food was delicious, we were offered takeaway boxes for our leftovers.
The wine, white and rose was a little warm for us but I’m sure ice would have been provided had we asked.
We will be back and will try the cocktails next time!

Fish Express
70 Highgate, KendalI don't leave 5* reviews very often, but in my opinion this is the best Gluten-Free Chippy in Cumbria (sorry Vinegar Jones). The difference is that the GF batter is homemade, the portions are generous, and the service is welcoming. I visited three times this month. The fish quality is great, the chips are crispy, and they have a GF battered sausage option too. There is a special offer on this that is good value. And if the normal F&C prices seem high, it's because you haven't seen a portion size yet!

The Joshua Tree
Yard, 11 Stramongate, KendalIf you're ever anywhere near Kendal you need to go and check this place out. Superb cuisine and friendly service. We went to a Pizza Express in central London a few weeks ago and paid more than double for basic production line fare. Times are hard in the hospitality sector, particularly in a small town in the Lake District out of season. Independents need your custom!

The Sun Inn
B5284, KendalMy wife and I were on a 2 day stopover in kendal, and decideded to go to Bo'ness for lunch. Didn't manage to get out the car , to busy so headed back by crook, to kendal. We stopped at the Sun Inn for lunch here, and were not dissapointed. I had a Lovely beef dinner, my wife had the cumberland sausage, which looked nice, she wouldn't let me taste it? . Extra portion of cheesy cauliflower is recommended. nice selection of real ale. Average wait for meal, about 20 mins , a very reasonable wait, which was fine, as Reece and Pauline kept us updated. Dog friendly as well. We sat outside as it was a nice sunny day. Im so glad I didn't get out my car at Bo'ness ,and stopped at the Sun Inn . Well done Pauline and Reece, we will be back soon.??.
P.s. I noticed a negative review by Joe Lord. If you arrive at 7.45pm and expect to be served quick in the middle of service in a pub, then you should go to a maccy dees in future. Your review is obviously sour grapes on your part.

Brew Brothers
69 Highgate, Kendal⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Little Piece of Home in Kendal! We absolutely love Brew Brothers. Not only is the food consistently amazing — fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented — but it’s the overall vibe that keeps us coming back. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and always buzzing with good energy. What really sets Brew Brothers apart for us is the staff. Every single visit, we’ve been met with genuine smiles and friendly conversation. The two South African staff members in particular make us feel right at home their accents, warmth, and familiar customs bring a comforting touch of Africa to the heart of Kendal. It’s such a treat to have that connection, and they're always happy to stop for a chat, which we absolutely love. This place isn’t just a café to us it’s a little piece of home away from home. Thank you, Brew Brothers, for being such a special spot. Can’t wait for our next visit!

28A Finkle St, KendalThank you for an absolutely fantastic lunch on Friday.\nI have coeliac disease and was so lucky to come across your cafe. I couldn’t believe how many menu options were available gluten free.\nMy husband had steak pie & I had quiche - both were absolutely delicious - whether you need a GF diet or not.\nYour warm welcome and reassurance (while also being clear that your kitchen does handle foods containing gluten) was wonderful.\nWe also took home Bakewell tart & millionaires shortbread - so tasty! Your food was a big highlight of our trip to the Lake District and a good reason to return!

19 Lowther St, KendalThe Brexit sinking ship forced me to find solace in the grog, only to end up in a vegan restaurant, might as well have fed me to a tribe of cannibals. Romneys
72 Milnthorpe Rd, KendalThis hotel offers guest rooms and apartments for the traveller. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and it was very comfortable and provided everything we needed. Onsite parking is a bonus. Romney is also a Gastro Pub i.e.A gastro pub is a UK pub that combines the relaxed atmosphere of a traditional pub with the high-quality food of a restaurant. The food and service is great. Recommend booking as it’s a favourite of the locals for a fancy dinner. If you are staying at Romneys, you can just walk in and book. We ate here 2 nights in a row and didn’t disappoint.

Pappy's Texas Barbeque (The Old Smokehouse)
Pappy’s Texas Barbeque, 2 The Old Smokehouse Yard 2, KendalWe visited here last night, family of 4 and what a lovely little restaurant. The food was outstanding but the star of the show was the lovely lady who waited on us and her Mam (who I believe is the owner) I’ve never had such great service, and the pride they both had in the food was beaming from them. Such an amazing experience and we will be back. Our 2 boys said they have never had food like it and thought it was incredible. Great food is nothing without the service and this was 10/10, thank you!

We loved the food and the pastries, we had the soup of the day with whipped butter and sourdough bread which was amazing! And also the chicken bean bowl was outstanding ?.
The only downside is that we just had a short amount of time to be there and we considered the entry ticket to the gardens a bit too much for a short period. Maybe the entry could be included if you eat there, we would’ve loved to see them.

Frydays of Kendal
6 New Rd, KendalClean & professional premises. Room to park outside in the evening. Would possibly be 5 stars, but didn't have the small fish and chips advertised on their board. We are two pensioners with smaller appetites than younger people. We opted for regular fish with small chips and mushy peas
Total in August 2025 was £13.30
The fish for us was just enough for the two of us, lovely crisp batter and for one would be huge. Small chips likewise (very slightly on the thick side for me but Tina thought they were fine). Mushy peas in a large tub were good and a much bigger helping than we get down south. Overall, very good and would definitely recommend. Sorry we eat everything before thinking about photos.

Gilpin Bridge Inn
Bridge End Cottage, Levens, KendalWhilst the room (HARE) was adequate for a couple of nights it needs a few tweaks as follows. The room is hot needs a fan yes you can open the window but road / traffic noise becomes an issue. Plug sockets at least 4 doubles maybe change one for one that has USB charger would be handy. The bathroom whilst very nice could do with some extra additions , robe hooks on the wall / door, a shelf to put wash/ toiletries bag on rather than the floor, anti slip bath mat is essential we had to put one of the hand towels in the bath to prevent my wife from slipping plus a grab rail would be a really good addition if possible. And the shower is not the best it runs off of a mixer tap so pressure is not great and runs hot and cold . These little things would make a huge difference. With reference to our slippery bath as soon as we raised the concern a brand new non slip bath mat was supplied the same day so top marks for that thankyou so despite a couple of minor niggles we would 100% stay again

Finkles
34 Finkle St, KendalFantastic food, prices and service.\n\nIt would be easy to walk past this place as it is set back from the main thoroughfare in Kendal. Make sure you stop, enter, and eat in this friendly, welcoming place. \n\nI enjoyed soup of the day (butternut squash) as a starter. It was top quality - absolutely home-made, and the better for it.\n\nMy wife and I both ordered the special main of the day - mince and onion pie. The pastry was really tasty, as was the gravy and yummy mince filling. The accompanying chips were crispy, and even the peas were exactly as they should be; plump and flavoursome.\n\nThen, to finish off our meal, my wife stepped back in time to when she was a wee girl and ordered “an ice cream float” - a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a coca cola, while I loved my lemon tea, with a fresh slice of fruit. Everything was served quickly and courteously. \n\nIt was our first time eating at Finkles, but God willing won’t be our last when we are in this beautiful part of the world.\n\nDerek and Elizabeth Hughes (Glasgow)

Esthwaite Ave, KendalI rang up to check if they would be showing football, I was informed the match would be on. When I arrived they had multiple screens, plenty of room to sit, and a beer garden. The people running the place are very friendly, I found a little corner to watch the football, during halftime I decided to look at the food menu, everything £9.95 with plenty of choices, the helpful staff chatted with us as I'd asked about different things on the menu, Lasagna was recommended, my partner went with that, I had Fish Chips and peas. It was all very nice and we we're treated well.
I like what they're doing here, having a menu where all the food is priced the same and at a cost where people on low incomes can go out and eat without breaking the bank.

Indie Craft Beer
32 Finkle St, KendalA favourite bar of mine in Kendal, the beers are excellent and the vibe is relaxed.
There is a great selection, both on keg (there is also 1 cask hand-pump) and also in bottles/cans. Photo of the ‘Opening Times’ chalkboard attached.

The Garden Cafe & Take Away
Stramongate, KendalPopped in for lunch whilst having a look around Kendal. It was nice and quiet possibly because the weather wasn't the best. A few other people turned up whilst we were there, nice quiet friendly atmosphere.
Had soup and chinese fries, which was more than I usually have for lunch so couldn't fit a cake in then but took one for later!
Food was lovely, would pop in again if in the area.

The New Union
159 Stricklandgate, KendalThis is a GEM. Do not underestimate this place. Fantastic selection of whisky and gin, with a very, very amiable and knowledgable barman. Impeccably clean, good bar snacks and dog friendly. Only lost a star for atmosphere, because we stopped in on a random Thursday, and weren’t able to attend any of the planned weekly/seasonal/annual events.

Levens Kitchen
Levens Kitchen, KendalLovely place, excellent option to stop on the road and have a delicious meal or dessert. Easy to access from the road, spacious car park and great environment.

Carus Green Golf Course & Driving Range
Burneside Rd, KendalAfter looking at various venues in and around Kendal area for ur wedding we decided to get married at Carus green golf club in March this year. We picked this place due to its great location for local guests, the amazing views, cleanliness and friendly helpful staff. We met up with Margarita to discuss plans and she was so helpful, the communication was brilliant throughout and she couldn’t do enough to help. On the day everything was perfect. Margarita and her team made sure the day ran smoothly and we couldn’t thank her enough. The food was amazing for our main meal and the evening buffet. We stayed in the Carus house for two nights for the wedding and it was absolutely stunning- would highly recommend if you are getting married there or for a general stay. We had plenty of space to get ready, the property is cleaned to a high standard and with comfy beds and it was very calming watching the golfers in the morning with a view over the green. Thank you again to Margarita, the chefs, bar staff and cleaners and all the other staff involved for making our wedding and stay so memorable

British Raj
76 Kirkland, KendalIt's probably the best Indian food I have had from a takeaway. 18 of us were staying nearby and ordered in advance. Everything in the order was freshly cooked and delicious. We even managed to leave without one of the bags, but the restaurant called us and let us know. I feel like most places would just ignore that, but we appreciated it a lot. If we are ever back in the area, we will definitely come again.

Farrers Tea & Coffee House
13 Stricklandgate, KendalWhat a great find, a genuine old tea and coffee house, evidently a merchant’s house from way back. The shop with its enormous selection of teas and coffees is what you come in to first, with more gifts and merchandise up a few stairs out the back. Then if you’re lucky enough to get a table in the cafe, that’s up more stairs but well worth the climb for those of us who can make it. The building itself is a real feature, with creaking old patched together timber floors and timber beams. It meanders upwards for about three or four storeys. If only the building could speak, there would be tales to tell from over the centuries!
We stopped for afternoon tea and had a selection of decaf tea, matcha, Americano coffee and hot chocolate with a couple of pastries from the display case in the shop. Best almond croissant ever, plump and soft with delicious filling.
Heartily recommended for stocking up on teas and coffees and a repast to enliven the traveller!

19 The Wine Bar
19 Lowther St, KendalThe Brexit sinking ship forced me to find solace in the grog, only to end up in a vegan restaurant, might as well have fed me to a tribe of cannibals. In all seriousness though the remainders are worse than chain smokers, who at least smoke outside and do not prop up the bar talking about the bygone days of EU compliant sausages ;)
