Mr Chips
6 The Quay, BidefordPop in Saturday, didn’t fancy cooking, occasionally in the past I have been a little disappointed but not this time. Back to how it used to be to be. The fish and the chips were perfect along with the service. The young lady that served me, darl hair, certainly looked like she was enjoying her job. If she wasn’t then she was putting on a good act. Great attention and eye contact which is unusual nowadays. Oh! On top of all that the price was more than fair. Thanks

The Spice Restaurant
North, The Quay, BidefordBeen to this place before when on holiday in the area so thought I would give it another go.\nWent early on a Thursday evening and very quiet.\nMenus outside the premises are take away menus and I could not see a wall board advertising the inside restaurant prices.\nYou need to go up steep stairs from the entrance to reach the first floor. However there is what appears to be an electric lift on the ground floor by the street entrance door but it doesnt seem big enough to stand up in so I assume it is meant for just a wheelchair.\nStarted with two popadoms and chutneys £3.40. Pint of Cobra £5.95.\nAs a main I had a chicken shashlik at £12.50. Tasty and plenty of it.\nI refused to pay the daft price of £6.25 for a sag paneer side dish ( so on a par with my very recent review of a Penzance Indian ) and instead I had a Special Pilau rice at £4.25.\nFinished off with Puri bread at £1.95.\nSo £28.05 the lot but it would have been over £30 if I had had my favourite side dish of sag paneer.\nSo a bit pricey overall.\nLocation is very central in Bideford and the table I had looked out over Bideford Quay and the water.\nPremises looked tidy, toilets OK but not of the highest standard.\nStaff polite, I thought service was a little slow but they did seem to be doing a lot of takeaway meals.

Pet Friendly Places
The Farmers Arms
Woolfardisworthy, BidefordThis is a true gastropub with as interesting a backstory as any. Concepted and opened in an old, failing pub by a son of the village who made his fortune in Silicon Valley in the USA tech industry and gave back.
Menu is very serious about being unusual, and is well executed. The seasonal squash soup with lemon was exceptional in its richness. Shepherd;s Pie of hoggett, with smoked garlic mash, mint and root veg. richly satisfying. Brixham Monkfish Sandwich is huge -- an American take on a sandwich. Enough for two. Great selection of local beer and soft drinks and startlingly researched wine list. Most servers are deeply committed to the concept and enthusiastic to help. We did come across one grumpy waitress who seemed to be having what Americans would call 'a bad day'. Get seated in the garden if weather affords. This being rural Devon, dogs are mandatory.

The Thatched Inn
Pump Ln, Abbotsham, BidefordWe reviewed about 3 pubs before deciding on The Thatched Inn and we were so glad we did. We arrived around 12:30 on a Wednesday to find the pub quite busy, in fact within half an hour the bar area was full with no tables free. As a result if you have a dog I would recommend booking as the bar area and covered outside tables are the only ones that are dog friendly. We ordered a fish gougeon wrap and a 4oz steak bagette , both were excellent, very flavoursome along with being very generous in portion size. Overall the whole package of staff, food, ambience and general feel of the pub was excellent and we made to feel very welcome. Well done to everyone involved and we will definitely visit again when in North Devon. If you are staying in the area I would highly recommend a visit as you would be hard pushed to find better.

The Italian Kitchen
21 Bridgeland St, BidefordI booked the Italian kitchen for my girlfriends birthday meal, we didn't know what to expect. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos to add to this post, next time we go we will?\n\nIt was a fantastic experience freshly cooked, the chef/server treated us with kindness and was happy to go through the food options multiple times. We arrived earlier and sat at a table small restaurant but not cramped. \n\nThere are no physical menus but I believe this is to the forever changing and adapting menu so frequently that it would be impossible to keep updated menus without printing them daily. Don't let that put you off. \nThere are options on the chalk wall if you look around the room \n\nWe felt like the menu was set to be a 3-3-3 style so it can be adapted daily and that stands as 3 starters 3mains and 3 desserts. For the evening, (there was more mains such as wide range of freshly made pizza as we) \n(We could also be wrong about the style of menu but that's how we found it) \n\nAlso I personally like cider that wasn't a option however I did venture into a new drink for myself and I enjoyed it. Just because a restaurant doesn't have a certain type of drink doesn't mean its a bad place to eat, expand your drink choice it's a small restaurant with one chef/waiter cooking fresh food and serving at the same time.\n\nI apologise if how I explain the food doesn't sound delightful but it was delicious ? \n\nFor starters we had a sharing platter with different hams and cheeses freshly cooked bread with a honey dip. It was something I wouldn't normally go for in a restaurant however we do like to try new things where possible. \n\nMains we had Catalonia I believe it's called slow cooked beef and pork for 3hr in pasta with a really nice cheese sauce over the top \nAnd a freshly made pizza with ham that was on the platter cheese mushrooms. \n\nAnd desserts 2x hot chocolate brownies with mint ice cream \nWe also had 4x rosé wines pinot I believe and all together was around £70-£80 and it was worth every penny we also left a tip as it was such a wonderful night.

The Blacksmiths Arms
23 Torrington St, BidefordCame for a quiz night and have become a regular.
After the pub was closed, was delighted that it reopened with vigor. Some friends and I decided to check the reopened pub with new owners, just before Christmas. They were putting in a quiz night, Thursday night. We arrived early so we could enjoy the quiz night menu, a good selection of dishes for £10, which includes a pint. The food is great and freshly cooked, served by friendly and enthusiastic staff. Nearly a year later and a large group of us, arrive on a Thursday, talking over a few tables and enjoy the fun quiz and the occasional win!
I'm now a regular for the Sunday Carvery and recommend to all of my family and friends who visit.
Well Done Seven and Alan on making the Blacksmiths a community success ?

Belluno Bideford
84 High St, Bideford★★★★★ Amazing Celebration for an 80th Birthday!**
We recently celebrated my mum's 80th birthday at **Belluno** with a group of 13, and it was absolutely perfect! The **food was wonderful**, and the **service exceptional**—they even took care of the birthday cake, cutting and serving it expertly.
What really stood out was their **patience and understanding**. Since our gathering doubled as a family reunion, we took a while to settle in, but the staff were accommodating and never rushed us.
**Pro tip for large groups:**
When pre-ordering, **clearly label starters and mains** and keep track of who ordered what—it makes everything smoother for both your party and the restaurant.
Highly recommend Belluno for celebrations
they truly made our special occasion memorable!
