The staff was very friendly and made sure we have everything we need. Don't waste your money on other cheaper Fish and Chips shops because we tried and regret it.

From the person that shows you to the table to the really friendly lady that served us. We got to the restaurant minutes before the lunch menu finished, but they still obliged. We both chose the Calamari and the Half rack of Barbecue ribs. The Calamari was far too salty on this occasion, and it isn't usually, so someone in the kitchen was too heavy with the seasoning. When the ribs came out, the chips that accompanied them were piping hot, but weren't crispy and seemed like they had been sitting around under a lamp for a long time. The lady quickly returned them to the kitchen and it was only a few moments before fresh chips came out. This time they were lovely, just how they should have been first time around. So top marks to the server, but disappointment from us for the skills in the kitchen. Fortunately the ribs were awesome, and the coleslaw accompaniment was fresh and tasty. Had it not been for the front of house and serving staff being very friendly and helpful, this would have been a three blob review. The restaurant manager needs to sort the kitchen out as this isn't the first time that the chips have been sub-standard.

43 Alexandra St, Southend-on-SeaTop quality roast dinners are hard to come by in Southend, until I found this place. Great portion sizes, beautifully presented, and it tasted even better. The atmosphere was the cherry on top, the place just oozes class and the staff are extremely friendly. Exactly where you want to be on a Sunday. I’ll definitely be back soon.

I had an amazing experience at this cozy spot in Indiana! The food was absolutely delicious — we ordered the Chicken Khazana, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Shashlik with rice, Chicken Tikka, and naan. Every dish was packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented.
The atmosphere was warm and welcoming — cozy without being cramped, and great for a relaxed meal. The service was friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better.
Highly recommend this place if you’re craving authentic Indian food. I’ll definitely be coming back!

The Angel Inn
Parsons Corner, N Shoebury Rd, Shoeburyness, Southend-on-SeaWe visited here on Sunday 7th September and there were 5 of us.
We all ordered different starters mains deserts and all of us loved the food.
Staff very friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was really good as well.
Would recommend 100 per cent.
Definitely over that way again will go back.

Came here for the first time in ages.
Had a quick look at the menu - it's changed, but that's fine.
Having decided what we were having, we put the menus back in the rack and waited to order.
We were at almost the nearest table to the counter, and we were obviously ready to order (I made eye contact with one of the waitresses several times) but still we waited. We had to wait until the 3 waitresses at the desk had finished their little chat....
Hubby ordered the regular breakfast, I ordered the breakfast stack, as I wasn't as hungry.
The food arrived pretty quickly as it wasn't too busy at the time (it did start to fill up, though, as we sat there)
Hubby's breakfast arrived on quite a small plate, so he had to take his toast off and put it on his napkin, as it was all too crammed on the plate to eat very easily. The food all tasted fine.
My stack arrived on a bit of slate (I would definitely have preferred an actual plate).
The stack consisted of 2 slices of very thick granary bread - nice, but way too much for a sandwich.
(I left half the bread as it was such heavy going)
The filling was very nice and generous.
It was accompanied by a pile of salad (who has salad for breakfast at 9.30 on a Sunday morning?) - I left that, too.
Overall, all the food was very nice, but maybe you just need to have a word with your staff, and maybe have a think about the other issues I mentioned.
Sorry, but it's just not as good as it used to be.

Cauliflower cheese was excellent as a side order. - we ordered another because it was so good. We had a short timeframe to eat because we were going to another event in the afternoon after lunch, but the staff knew this and made sure we were served promptly. Ice cream sundaes were yummy.

Food choice is fairly limited but all options are usually excellent. On normal day or evening visits, like most pubs, amount of people there varies. Had a few Sunday lunches which also are very good.

Unit 7/8, The Broadway, London Rd, Southend-on-SeaWe booked this for Fathers Day and glad we did as customers without bookings were turned away; although restaurant not full\nFood good although description misleading and server never asked why meal hardly touched\nBasically not enough waiting staff\n(maximum of 3 at any one time) and freshly cooked food left to cool until waiting staff could get there and bring out to the correct table \nWhen we finished our starters we sat with dirty dishes for 20+ minutes and server had to clear these when bringing out the mains \nAs I said above mains eaten except mine as not as described and then we sat with the finished plates for another 25 minutes until we caught the eye of a server\nThen menus brought out for dessert but told we couldn’t choose from them as on 3 course set menu so correct ones produced and we quickly chose our desserts that arrived in 5 minutes \nWe then asked for the bill and paid & left \nFood mostly good\nAtmosphere good\nService abysmal

Bull Inn Hockley
99 Main Rd, HockleyWe visited The Bull for a birthday meal recently - it wasn't our first visit, but it was our first time back since the refurbishment. I was hopeful it had hung onto it's charm and character - I need not have worried. All the low beams and wooden panels were back in evidence, a lovely homely feel throughout the whole building.
We were served by Ally, a lovely lady whose knowledge of the menu was surpassed only by her dry wit and sense of fun. The whole table was immediately at ease with her, very helpful and obliging.
And the food was terrific - only one of our party ordered the roast (much to Ally's surprise and consternation!), but she thoroughly enjoyed it. We also sampled the steak, a sea bass dish and their duo of chicken - all excellent. Always the sign of a good restaurant when nearly everyone orders something different, but not one of them leaves disappointed. Good value, delicious meals and prompt, friendly service - couldn't ask for more!

The staff must've been shattered lol. We had scampi and chips later on in the afternoon which was lovely. The queue for food was much shorter. Really good friendly atmosphere.

The Seafood Shack
32-35 Eastern Esplanade, Southend-on-SeaWe were looking for a seafood restaurant and came across this hidden gem, well worth a visit if in the area. Fresh ingredients, unique flavours and decent value for money.
Beverages were good especially the cocktails.
Food wise - Our favourite was the seafood boil ? messy, flavourful and extremely tasty. Firecracker prawns was another fave and good portion sizes. Garlic bread was divine and the best we've ever eaten.
Service could have been better as we would have ordered more drinks if the waitrons checked in more frequently. It was a big bill and the waitress was rude and did not want to add the tip to the bill citing they do not get the tips. That put a dampener on a really good dining experience.
Either way will visit again soon.

4 Coast Rd, West Mersea, ColchesterFood was lovely and good portions. However my friend has a dairy allergy which we made aware to the staff. Unfortunately there was no dietary information and she couldn’t tell us which foods or sauces had dairy in so my friend was unable to eat these. We had two babies with us and another family had a baby and we all asked for a highchair but they said they didn’t have any so we had to go back to the car and get their prams to eat in which wasn’t ideal. Apart from the lack of dietary information and high chairs, it was a really lovely restaurant!

The range of set breakfasts is a highlight and the baguettes are good too. I've not tried one but having seen them served up, the salads look great as well. Prices are very fair. Nice to have the option to sit outside too on a nice day.

I took my mum here for lunch on a Friday - the service from Terry was absolutely exceptional – friendly, attentive, and made us feel really welcome. Came here for the first time in ages.
Had a quick look at the menu - it's changed, but that's fine.
Having decided what we were having, we put the menus back in the rack and waited to order.
We were at almost the nearest table to the counter, and we were obviously ready to order (I made eye contact with one of the waitresses several times) but still we waited. We had to wait until the 3 waitresses at the desk had finished their little chat....
Hubby ordered the regular breakfast, I ordered the breakfast stack, as I wasn't as hungry.
The food arrived pretty quickly as it wasn't too busy at the time (it did start to fill up, though, as we sat there)
Hubby's breakfast arrived on quite a small plate, so he had to take his toast off and put it on his napkin, as it was all too crammed on the plate to eat very easily. The food all tasted fine.
My stack arrived on a bit of slate (I would definitely have preferred an actual plate).
The stack consisted of 2 slices of very thick granary bread - nice, but way too much for a sandwich.
(I left half the bread as it was such heavy going)
The filling was very nice and generous.
It was accompanied by a pile of salad (who has salad for breakfast at 9.30 on a Sunday morning?) - I left that, too.
Overall, all the food was very nice, but maybe you just need to have a word with your staff, and maybe have a think about the other issues I mentioned.
Sorry, but it's just not as good as it used to be.

759 Southchurch Rd, Southend-on-SeaGot time off and relaxing so fancied a takeaway, if you are gluten free you have to try this place. Lamb burger is amazing just an absolute 10/10. Lovely staff, will definitely be back

Ocean Beach
Eastern Esplanade, Southend-on-SeaFabulous tapas and excellent service. Went on my own and felt very welcome and safe.
Lovely view and shaded from the sun.
Some chilled out 'ibiza' music playing in the background made it feel like i was on holiday rather than a work trip.

La Petite Petanque
Cambridge Square Gardens, The Bowling Green Pavilion, Cambridge Road, Clifftown, Southend-on-SeaWe had a delicious Sunday lunch here. Cauliflower cheese was excellent as a side order. - we ordered another because it was so good. We had a short timeframe to eat because we were going to another event in the afternoon after lunch, but the staff knew this and made sure we were served promptly. Ice cream sundaes were yummy.

The Old Windmill

The food was delicious and Emma had everything packed and ready for collection bang on time. My wife Glenys was really pleased with the service provided - especially at such a difficult time.

2 Nelson Mews, Southend-on-SeaThe Mews completely blew me away. There were quite a few of us in our party, but The Mews staff were on the ball and very attentive, and the cocktails went down a treat!!. Every bite of the food was amazing, everyone loved it, it truly was Michelin quality!! The recipes were thoughtful, and impossible to forget. The staff made the evening effortless, friendly, and fun, while the space itself somehow manages to feel both cozy and special. The menu has something for everyone, portions hit the sweet spot, and leaving hungry isn’t an option. Honestly, it’s one of those rare spots that makes you already plan your next visit on the way out.... I can't wait to go again!!

The Seafood Shack
32-35 Eastern Esplanade, Southend-on-SeaWe were looking for a seafood restaurant and came across this hidden gem, well worth a visit if in the area. Fresh ingredients, unique flavours and decent value for money.
Beverages were good especially the cocktails.
Food wise - Our favourite was the seafood boil ? messy, flavourful and extremely tasty. Firecracker prawns was another fave and good portion sizes. Garlic bread was divine and the best we've ever eaten.
Service could have been better as we would have ordered more drinks if the waitrons checked in more frequently. It was a big bill and the waitress was rude and did not want to add the tip to the bill citing they do not get the tips. That put a dampener on a really good dining experience.
Either way will visit again soon.

Cafe Masala
187-189 The Broadway, Thorpe Bay, Southend-on-SeaHaving both takeaway and eaten in the restaurant, Cafe Masala has always provided first class service and delicious food. Nothing compares to it, highly recommend the tandoori lamb chops and sea bass. Will be heading back soon to try out the new tandoori sirloin shashlik! Thank you Altaf and colleagues xx

The Exchange Bar & Kitchen
659 Southchurch Rd, Southend-on-SeaOur local. Attend the monthly quiz night where a group of us all eat before the quiz. Gets very busy. Food choice is fairly limited but all options are usually excellent. On normal day or evening visits, like most pubs, amount of people there varies. Had a few Sunday lunches which also are very good.

The Horse and Groom Pub
1 Southend Rd, RochfordWent to the horse and groom for the first time on Sunday with family . Had the most amazing roast dinner . Best I have eaten in a long time . Foods a proper old fashion good fresh home cooked roast . Service was perfect friendly and I can’t wait to go back already booked for next Sunday . Well done to the guys at the horse and groom . If your in the area would definitely recommend a visit .

The Loyal Toast
Western Approach, Southend-on-SeaWe came here today following seeing a recommendation on a local Facebook page and weren’t disappointed! My wife said the roast was one of the best she’s had, my burger and chips were amazing and the children’s menu had plenty of variety and put fussy daughter loved the Mac and cheese and chocolate brownie and ice cream. The staff friendly and lovely atmosphere.

Shoeburyness Hotel
1 High St, Shoeburyness, Southend-on-SeaThe Sunday roast was the best I've had in ages. The restaurant was spacious and had a friendly, family atmosphere. The staff were very efficient and it so nice for the chef to come out to talk to us all. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Seafood shack
4 Coast Rd, West Mersea, ColchesterFood was lovely and good portions. However my friend has a dairy allergy which we made aware to the staff. Unfortunately there was no dietary information and she couldn’t tell us which foods or sauces had dairy in so my friend was unable to eat these. We had two babies with us and another family had a baby and we all asked for a highchair but they said they didn’t have any so we had to go back to the car and get their prams to eat in which wasn’t ideal. Apart from the lack of dietary information and high chairs, it was a really lovely restaurant!
