The Tom Ka Soup with coconut milk tofu and mushrooms etc with extra spice absolutely awesome

My main meal was 2 Penang curries (no rice) with plenty of Tofu and plenty of vegetables plus I took another Penang curry home with me as that was equally as awesome as my starter

Do get down to the Little Monkey in Hitchin because the food is incredible along with the staff

When I visit Hitchin again I shall return thankyou again and much Love and Respect to You All ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We were staying in Hitchin on a Friday night before a family wedding the next day. I booked Zizzi in advance, as my son likes the food, and it was a good thing we had booked, as it was heaving.\n\nGenerally, we had a good meal. The food was mostly fine - although I thought my carbonara was way too stodgy. It was like a mass of pasta stuck together on the plate, and hard to pick up. I left some of it, which isn't like me. The rest was good. The staff were very friendly and welcoming - and service was efficient. \n\nApart from the carbonara, there are just 3 other things that weren't ideal. It was SO loud in there that I just couldn't hear what people were saying - to the point I stopped trying to hear what my son and husband were saying! You couldn't hear yourself think. No-one asked me about any allergies. I have a mild.one - no big deal, but when it came to dessert, I just mentioned it, as often restaurants use berries as garnishes, and that's my allergy. The waiter was horrified that no-one had asked me on arrival.about allergies, but then almost accused me.of not raising it - and then another waiter came over and we had the same conversation and he started telling me that I should have said something. Berries are easy to avoid, and I knew there wouldn't be any in garlic bread and carbonara, so I didn't think it was worth mentioning before. I didn't really like being accused of wrongdoing twice - especially when the onus should be on the restaurant to check. Finally, one waiter came over with a special QR code and asked if we could leave a special review and mention our main waiter by name - this was on the card with the QR code, and I found this a bit pushy. He was quite insistent that I did so, which felt a bit forced. Both were nice and had been great waiters, but I feel reviews should be voluntary. I didn't like the QR code concept.

Visited Dec2023, 2024 & 2025 for office Xmas bash using the Xmas menu.

Restaurants do a roaring trade at Xmas and part of the deal for diners is that the kitchen needs to bang out huge quantities of food at speed, for which the comprise is generally quality and/or care. This restaurant delivers the deal; over the years, the menu planning has bended a little towards standardisation (presumably for speed, with fewer staff). Similarly, the bar needed more staff on duty for the peak hours. It would be nice to try this venue outside of the crazy Christmas period to get a more fair impression of it.

That said, the Xmas offering was generally good, with the best offering being the traditional choices of prawn cocktail, turkey et al and Chrimbo pud. In all cases, the presentation and preparation was fair, albeit a bit rushed (see paragraph above).

The bar - and, in particular, its cocktail menu - is a key attraction. There are a lot of cocktails to consume, more than one liver can handle in one night, with a full range of flavours from bitters to sweeties.

The venue itself is quite magnificent. Private dining is available; opting to sit in the cavernous main dining area is a superior experience for the atmosphere. The acoustics of the area reverberate, so hearing can be a little challenging. Ceiling baffles would help, without impeding the vibe.

The one key disappointment over two of the three years visits has been the cheeseboard. A cheeseboard is supposed to have a variety of cheeses. But in 2024 and 2025, the cheeseboard was three portions of one type of cheese only. And in 2025, it was cheddar. No kitchen likes preparing a cheeseboard at the end of the shift at any time of the year, but to provide only one cheese on a slate looked like too many corners had been cut from the planning. For the prices charged, more time and care needed to be exercised in both planning and execution of the service delivery, even in the crazy Christmas period.

As a local personal trainer, I often meet clients here before we head out on bike rides, and it’s become a regular place for us to come back to afterwards for a chat and some food. It’s always a great environment — relaxed, friendly, and consistently well run.

The staff are approachable and attentive, and the food is always spot on. It’s one of those places that just works whether you’re stopping in briefly or staying longer.

A wonderful cafe in the heart of Hitchin.

I visited yesterday morning for the first time with my wife for brunch.

I had the big boy bap, which lived up to its name. Plenty of good quality bacon and sausages complimented with a fried egg. All held together in a large bun.

My wife had a mushroom toastie which was delicious and made with quality ingredients.

We finished off with some cakes from the display. I had a delicious brownie and my wife a chocolate orange cake.

I would recommend and will certainly visit again in the future.

I visited on the last day of my niece & nephews school holiday 5.1.26. It was an inset day which the colleague who does the rotas at Pizza Express did not cater for. Caleb & Wendy were run ragged & I am sure did not receive their legal breaks.
Caleb managed our expectations from the start & we were happy to wait for our pizza express cuisine choice even though we could see how manic it was in your Hitchin restaurant.
Wendy was her professional, efficient & smiley self as usual & hats off to them, they never let it show how busy they both were.
We could see.
My Mum said her Pollo pasta dish was delicious. That’s good enough for me.
Compliments to the chef too ( apologies we didn’t take their name. )
Therefore, to the Hitchin Pizza Express hierarchy, Caleb, Wendy & today’s chef are a credit to you and deserve to be rewarded for surviving their shifts!
Their service was outstanding even though they were stretched to the max’. I’ve worked in catering & that is something no one should be put through what we witnessed today.
Thankyou to them all for serving us to the point we can only praise them & not find criticism owing to insufficient rotaring.

Popped in here today for the first time with my daughter for lunch. Very friendly people as we walked in. No problems getting a table. We had two full English breakfasts, mine with bubble and squeak, hers with hash browns. Both wonderful and the best we've had in a long time. Nice to get a proper runny egg with decent bacon and sausage.
Very reasonably priced came with tea and toast as well.

We visited the Windmill for the first time and found it to be a quaint little spot tucked away in a lovely village. The menu is mostly Caribbean-inspired with a great selection of dishes, and the dessert display alone could tempt anyone — loads of freshly baked cakes that were calling my name.

We did have quite a long wait for our food, but we were told some of the kitchen staff hadn’t reported for work, which meant one brave chef was holding down the fort and cooking for a full restaurant. Credit where it’s due — they handled the pressure well.

When the food finally arrived it was absolutely delicious, so the wait was quickly forgiven. Good food, good vibes, and cake on standby… I’ll definitely be returning soon.

We travelled halfway across the globe and stumble upon this olde sweet shop so full of treats and a true gem for the young and adults alike. Amazed by the wide selection of chocs, sweets and gummies. This was a great pub to stop off for a drink, with an interior invoking a gritty, down to earth style from its bricks that have holes in the wall! Arched roof is pretty and an angel hangs down from the ceiling, outdoor seating is relaxed under shelter. I had a pint of Seven Brother's IPA and counter is stylish itself, however it is in an inconvenient location in relation to the entrance itself as anyone has to navigate through specific rooms to get their directly.

Visited Four Leaf had Bacon, Eggs, BBeans, Chips and Coffee. (yeah, I know)
It was all good, very good.
I went back, is was good again. And each time since it’s been consistent.
I’m not a Chip fan.
But here they are the best.
I think if Hitchin had a best chip event, Four Leaf would win it.

Just visited the Highlander for a works summer party and was very impressed by the venue and the staff. We had pre ordered lunch for approx 30 people and all food came out at a reasonable time, no long waits for people's meals. The food was lovely and well enjoyed by all. We were served quickly and efficiently at the bar. All the staff were friendly and worked hard to serves us all and keep the tables clear of empty glasses. I think given the heat today the hard work by the team deserves extra special mention. \nThank you to the team for a lovely event!
