The Carpenters Arms
Fulbrook Hill, A361, Fulbrook, BurfordEvery year we visit the Cotswolds we come back here as it has been guaranteed fantastic food! However this year, 2026, we were disappointed.
The menu has changed to small plates which means you need to spend double the money for half the amount of food. And unfortunately it was not as tasty.
Previously we’d been served by one of the male owners, who was always chatty and he always made you feel welcome. This year we got a lady and a young man who took our order and bought our food. Nothing wrong but not that next level service which we received previously.
Now the food:
The sourdough barely had any air pockets which made it quite dense. The outer texture was also very hard and chewy. However there was a good amount of butter severed!
Hash brown and kimchi was very nice.
Lamb cigar, was not worth £14.
Cod cheek served in the soup, we had to ask for a spoon to eat it and it was warm not hot.
Red cabbage was nice.
Chunky chips - when I order chunky chips it’s because I like potato. But 50% of the bowl was served with crunchy ends. The crunchy ends were nice but about 10% would have been acceptable. As they were very greasy and I wanted to eat potato not just dried up ends.
The reason I’m not giving this less stars is because you redeemed yourself with the sticky toffee pudding.
On leaving, I noticed all the other tables who were eating, had not chosen small plates. But the only 2 main meals on the menu. So this is my plea to you: please go back to a normal main menu. It is what your customers want! Bring back your chargrill day, because that was the best steak and John Dory!

The Fox at Barrington
Great Barrington, BurfordWe were staying not far from this pub and it was recommended to us - we were certainly not disappointed! An idyllic location with beautiful views. We were greeted warmly by the manager, who was really friendly and helpful (and made a big fuss of our cocker spaniel which he loved). We were shown to our table and served drinks by two more friendly staff. Now the part about going above and beyond their duties - my wife had a dizzy spell and felt a bit odd, then actually fainted - the chef and all staff were so attentive, bringing cold flannels to put on her head and staying with us (we had our two young children and the dog with us so it would have been really tricky without the help we were so readily given. When my wife came around and felt a little better, the food arrived and it was delicious - only sorry that my poor wife couldn't eat much (so we will definitely return so she can experience the meals). I can't find high enough praise for this place - superb in every way. Would recommend to anyone.

Hugo lovage patisserie
54 High St, BurfordWe had takeaway afternoon tea boxes from Hugo Lovage for 70 at our wedding in August, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The sandwiches, cakes, and quiche were delicious, the boxes down the long tables looked fantastic, and we had so many compliments from our guests. Cindy was great in accommodating the dietary requirements we had, and it was a real highlight of our wedding day!

The Highway Inn Burford
117 High St, BurfordAbout the hotel: 1) The lighting in the rooms is a bit low. 2) The fan may not be enough during hot periods.
About the restaurant: Breakfast was excellent and also the dinner was very tasty, offering many tapas selections.

The O D D Pub Co Ltd
The Angel, Witney Street, BurfordSophie our server was sooooo nice and accommodating. It was so much fun going to where my ancestors came from. I know that great grandfather's back millennia helped build the Burford bridge over the little river that's at the foot of high Street and so it was fun seeing all these places and having lunch there and thinking about my families connection to the town. Burford is considered to be the gateway to the cot waltz. The cot walls has an old area that has changed for a little over the hundreds of years and has amazing architecture and houses and farms. It's surrounded by rolling Hills and Dells and little rivers running through it. Burford is considered the gateway to the cot walls because it showcases several styles of very old architecture. that's still an excellent condition. If you have questions about what to do while you're there go to the Tolsey house. But I have to say there is no question that when I got there And it was lunchtime that I selected the angel at Burford to eat the fine food that they serve there. The staff quality of the food everything was amazing. I will return time and time again.

The Swan Inn
The Swan Inn, A40, Swinbrook, BurfordGreat location, nice building with friendly helpful staff, cozy room with all the usual stuff. Comfy bed, nice shower, plenty to do in a 10 minutes drive, my one and only disappointment was the breakfast, the quality was amazing but the "full" English didn't live up to its name. I wasn't full. 1 amazing sausage, 1 bacon, 1 egg, 1 mushroom, half a slice of black pudding, half a slice of tomato, and a tiny bowl of beans.I would definitely return and can highly recommend. (Just fill up on toast or cereal first)

The Lamb Inn
Sheep St, BurfordI want to congratulate the whole of the team at The Lamb Inn in Burford. Me and my wife stayed there for 3 nights from Thursday 12th March to Sunday 15th March. The whole time there was faultless. The room was lovely, the food and wine were delicious and the whole Inn was so cosy. BUT ABOVE ALL!!! Every member of staff was FANTASTIC!!! Their attitude, their attentiveness, their happy, smiling demeanor made this the most delightful break for both of us. BRAVO!!! the team at The Lamb Inn.
