Restaurants in Bowness-on-Windermere
Graze cafe
Crag Brow House, Helm Rd, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereFinally got to visit as the last time we tried late on in the day they’d ran out of food! Food was delicious and all freshly prepared we had the noodle soup and rice bowl. Both excellent but I think the soup won the day. Friendly service and decent prices (for Bowness!)

Jackson's Bistro
West End, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereEarly doors, but town was still full of madness on the period seemingly known as Twixtmas. This was a gem, an oasis, a duiet zone, a find that one doesn't normally easily come across. Did I mention the food? Extensive menu and good wine list for discerning diners. Spot on. But book - we were lucky as walking.

Porto Restaurant
3 Ash Street, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereWe booked a table at Porto for a meal on New Year’s Eve and we were very pleasantly surprised. The menu talked a big game and they didn’t disappoint. \n\nWe loved the cosy pub atmosphere - it felt very intimate and quaint which was perfect for us as a couple. The food exceeded our expectations - don’t let the “pub” exterior fool you; Porto delivers restaurant quality food and it’s easy to see why they have won so many awards and rosettes.\n\nThe hand dived scallop was excellent, as was the beef wellington. For £80pp, we felt it was very good value. The dessert was also very good - loved the toffee shard.\n \nHave rated 4/5 as their timing could have been better managed. We received the bread and trio of starters within 10 mins of our arrival then a long wait for the fish course. This was quickly followed by the beef wellington but then another long wait for the desserts. As soon as we’d finished desserts we were told they needed our table - we still had a full glass of wine and nowhere available for us to finish it so it was bottoms up before we left! Slightly better timing would have made for a better overall experience.

Hole in t' Wall
Robinson Pl, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereIt's hard to find good food and fair pricing for families but the hole in the wall fulfils all of that and more. So for families who don't want there wallets emptied by other outlets then this place is a must.

Linthwaite House
Crook Ln, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereWe were lucky to stay at Linthwaite in Fell Suite 3 with a hot tub.
Can't say a bad word about the standard of accommodation and service. Absolutely outstanding. Special mention to Chris who was always on hand to help charge our car, bring us ice buckets and lug our luggage around! This hotel deals with a lot of VERY demanding customers (read that as entitled and sometimes downright rude) from around the world but the staff remain professional at all times. Thank you especially to the breakfast staff where we saw a lot of scenarios like this during our stay and still somehow managed to keep smiling.
Only improvement we can suggest would be to allow reservations on the terrace for those wanting to eat (rather than those stopping by for a drink on way to Henrock) and please replace the salted nuts at breakfast with a more natural variety!
Thank you - we would love to return!

Elim Bank Guest House #BookDirect
Lake Rd, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereOne of the most genuinely hospitable stays I’ve had. We stayed for 3 nights and were so well looked after by Symmoane and Adam who were such kind, thoughtful hosts. The room was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed, and the location was perfect- easy walking distance to both Bowness and Windermere, a ton of restaurants and shops and the bus stop was just 2 minutes away making exploring the lake district without a car so easy! Symmoane and Adam were very transparent before booking (including letting us know there wouldn’t be a cooked breakfast), but the breakfast was still hearty and delicious, the homemade compote was honestly one of the best I’ve had. They even added some lovely touches when they found out it was my birthday, which made the stay feel extra special. A beautiful place run by wonderful people. We’ll 100% be recommending and would love to come back.

Burn How Garden Hotel
Back Belsfield Rd, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereA group of four ladies stayed for two nights. We had two garden rooms. Both lovely self contained chalets. Plenty of room inside and car parking outside the chalet. Beautiful decor throughout the hotel. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Owner was always present too. Breakfast was buffet followed by the best poached eggs ever. The property is set back from main road so traffic noise is minimal. Could walk into town in 5 minutes. Overall a very pleasant stay and will certainly rebook.

The Angel Inn
Helm Rd, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereThis was our second visit as we stayed here just before Christmas and wanted to experience it in summer as they have a lovely outdoor seating area at the front of the hotel.
Service is exceptional and staff cannot do enough for you. My husband is GF and they catered really well for him. We have a small dog who was treated like a prince by the staff and given lots of lovely treats.
Whenever we come back to Bowness I think the Angel Inn will always be our go to place to stay.

ChoccoBar Hot Chocolate House
57/58 Quarry Rigg Shopping Center, Off Lake Rd, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereWe booked in advance for afternoon tea as part of our honeymoon at the ChoccoBar after trying their luxury hot chocolates which were delightful. It was beautifully presented on a three tier stand with all products sourced locally and hand made. The scones were fresh out the oven and were delicious. This was very reasonably priced at £50 and the service was unbelievable they went above and beyond and offered us takeaway boxes when we couldn't finish all the food.
We've had afternoon teas in different parts of the UK such as Betty's tea house in Harrogate but it doesn't compare to this. This is the most lovely experience we've had ran by a family. We would definitely recommend!

Lake Raj
3 Longlands Rd, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereWent here last night (3 Jan 26). Chosen based on the chefs being from Bangladesh, they make the best curries imo.\nWe'd booked a table of 4 adults and one child for 7pm\nArrived early but table was already available\nGreat friendly staff\nGreat service\nFood was great apart from the lime pickle requested wasn't lime pickle, it was the mixed pickle which changes the flavour of the wife's achari big time\nMy Naga Murch was exceptional (love that naga pickle taste) combined with tarka dhal.\nPlace could have been warmer as it was quite cold\nFood: 4/5 | Service: 5/5 | Atmosphere: 4/5

The Flying Pig Pub
Rayrigg Rd, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereWe have just come back after a week in Bowness over new year and loved this pub! The staff were so friendly despite clearly being busy due to time of the year. \nWe had two lovely meals here one of which was for Sunday lunch. The evening meals were good but Sunday lunch was great (inc my vegetarian roast)! The only thing I would say is that they need to improve the size of their gravy jugs which are fairly small and we had to ask three times for more each time one tiny jug coming out for the five of us! \nThe deserts were exceptional especially the sticky toffee pudding. \nI would absolutely look forward to going back next time I’m in the area.

House Of Siam
3 and 5 Grosvenor Terrace, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereSecond time in three days we had been. Went on Tuesday night and the service and food was brilliant. The staff were exceptional. So being New Years day we booked as we weren't sure what would be open or how busy the area would be. We got seated and ordered and then waited 45 minutes for our starters. We got promised twice they were coming. Then when our mains came out, they gave the mains the wrong way around. Having worked in hospitality its seriously not that hard. Especially if you are the one who owns the business

Vinegar Jones | Fish & Chips
Royal Square, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereAbsolutely amazing, since being diagnosed Coeliac I’ve never found a chip shop that did gluten free fish, battered sausages and chips, they have a separate fryer and everything is kept totally away from anything that can cause cross contamination,\nEven the curry sauce, gravy and vinegar are all GF!! \nThe lasses in the shop were just brilliant, so helpful and a good laugh ? \nWe’ll be back

Lakeland Charcoal Grill
2, Saint Martins hill, Bowness-on-Windermere, WindermereLarge mixed kebab consisted of 2 lamb skewers, one chicken and loads of done meat, which was the best part and not something I'd usually eat. Salad was a little lack lustre, not having tomatoes or carrot, but would go back there again.
Though the price, as expected for the area, was a little pricey at £16 for one.
