Isle of Raasay Distillery
Borodale House Isle of Raasay, KyleWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Raasay Distillery. We only stayed one night, but really felt we were there for longer. We took the 1 o’clock ferry over on a rainy Sunday, And booked the distillery tour/tasting and restaurant meal as part of our price. I highly recommend both. The tour and tasting was excellent and generous. I definitely have an appreciation for this young distillery. Our room was in the main building and was clean, modern, comfortable and had a spectacular view over the water. It was great to be able to go downstairs and relax in the bar late at night, or the common room. We tried hiking the Dun Cana when the weather wasn’t cooperative - Crazy winds rain and snow! The next day, we tried again from the backside, but ran out of time in order to meet our ferry. We explored the rest of the island the following day as well and thought there was plenty to see and do. We drove as far as we could to the north, to the end of Calum’s Road (great views), Brochel Castle and village which was as impressive as any other castle we saw in Scotland, and the old iron mines - which only operated for a short time, but we’re very interesting - Using German POW’s as workers. I definitely go back and stay another time at the distillery. There’s a really nice group of young people that are running things - they’re friendly and provide great service. It was especially wonderful to chat with them in the bar at night. Great team.

Somerled Square, PortreeTheir bakery rolls are excellent.
I was buying lunch and bought half a dozen of the rolls as well just because they looked so good.
Great quality and flavour but what makes them perfect is they are still just as good a couple of days later when most other rolls have gone hard.
I'll definitely be back for more.

Scorrybreac Restaurant, 7 Bosville Terrace, PortreeThis was our second time at Scorrybreac this year and was just as good as (possibly slightly better than) the first. There are plenty of decent places to eat on Skye and a handful of genuine fine dining options. Of all the ones we've tried, our family favourite is this one. We enjoyed all the dishes on this October menu, a combination of the fairly traditional but very well executed (Hake with mussels, wild mushrooms, chicken broth) and the more novel/creative (Monkfish, celeriac puree, vanilla foam) and all were delicious. Service was friendly and attentive, dishes well-paced, if a touch slow when the restaurant at its fullest. If you're after quality, are willing to pay for it and have an open mind and palate, I'd strongly recommend you give this is a go. One tiny suggestion for the restaurant... would be really handy to have a spoon to hand with every course - would have saved our clumsy attempts to get every last drop of sauce/puree from the plate with a fork/knife/sneaky finger. We'll be back.

The View Restaurant
Scorrybreac Rd, PortreeThis is our second stay at Cuillen Hills and the third dinner. Everything was delicious!
It does seem the menu was a little tighter than last year, but there were enough choices to satisfy all taste buds.
The interesting thing was the chef has a rule about having to order your entree the same time as your appetizer. Not that it would come out at the same time, but he wants to be able to stagger the delivery appropriately. Just a little odd.
Breakfast was included with our stay and it was also delicious and cooked to order. One thing I love is for my food to arrive hot, and The View makes sure nothing is kept under a heat lamp.

Chargrill Restaurant Portree
Home Farm Rd, PortreeI had a great experience at Chargrill. I made a reservation in advanced and was quickly seated. I ordered the bread board, the cod, and chips. The bread was fresh, with herbs, salted butter, and oil and balsamic vinegar. It was delicious. The cod was amazing. The sauce was light and it was cooked perfectly. The chips were also great. I had a great glass of wine as well. There was only one server that evening and he was effectively and efficiently managing the dinning room. He was very kind and attentive. Over all, I had such a great experience.
If you’re planning on walking to Chargrill from downtown, it’s a short 10 minute walk with sidewalks.

Isle of Skye Candle Co. Visitor Centre, PortreeGreat experience! We visited as tourists and were lucky to get a table since it was quite busy. All four of us had pizza from the stone oven – absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a modern feel and is located right next to a lovely candle shop with candles made on the Isle of Skye. Highly recommended!

They accommodated e of us plus a dog at a reasonable rate for 2 rooms and a full breakfast! Would highly recommend! From the back bedrooms you get to look out over the bay and we spent the evening watching the seals bobbing up and down!

West Highlands Bar
Somerled Square, PortreeWest Highland Bar is a really good pub stop if you’re passing through Portree on Skye. There’s an epic selection of malt whiskies, but my tip is you have to ask for a Glencairn glass. One of the bar staff, Eoin from Northern Ireland, had great knowledge of whisky as a brilliant staff member. Food is good, with a restaurant attached to the pub, so it’s a bit on the higher end for pub meals. Seating in the pub itself is a bit limited. I had the slow-cooked blade of beef with carrot, shallot, and green peppercorn sauce, and it hit the spot. Really tender, rich flavour, and easily one of the best pub meals I’ve had on Skye. Good selection of beers and whisky, and the place has a warm, cosy feel, especially when the weather’s doing its thing outside. Staff were friendly and service was easy-going. Must be one of the best pubs on Skye, I think.

Merchant Bar
13 Bosville Terrace, PortreeI had a great experience at this bar in Portree. They have an impressive whisky selection, and the bartender was extremely knowledgeable. He took the time to understand my preferences and recommended whiskies that suited my taste perfectly.
Since I visited in winter, the bar was fairly quiet, which made the atmosphere even more enjoyable. I really appreciated being able to have a relaxed conversation with the bartender. The music was pleasant and at a comfortable volume, adding to the cozy vibe without being distracting.
Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality and selection available. I would definitely recommend this bar to anyone visiting Portree, particularly if you enjoy whisky or gin, as their selection is extensive.

A87, Uig, PortreeWe had fish and chips, which were very good — fresh, tasty, and definitely enough to fill you up. Prices are a bit higher than elsewhere, but that’s to be expected on Skye, which is such a big tourist hotspot.
The atmosphere was nice, and overall it was a pleasant place to eat. A solid choice if you’re in the area!

Fish & Chips
1 Quay St, PortreeStopped for fish and chips in Portree and it was a very good choice. The fish was fresh and flaky, breaking apart in clean white layers. The batter was light and crisp, not greasy, and had that proper crunch when you bite into it. Chips were fluffy inside with a slight crisp on the outside — exactly what you want after a long day exploring Skye.
I’d still give it the silver medal rather than gold. It didn’t quite hit legendary status, but it was comfortably above average. The kind of meal you’re very happy with, even if you’ve had slightly better somewhere along the coast before.
The setting makes a big difference. Eating near the harbour, with the colourful waterfront buildings and boats gently moving in the water, just adds to the experience. There’s something about sea air and fresh fish that feels scientifically aligned — your brain probably enjoys the setting as much as the flavour.
Overall, a solid stop while going around the island. Good quality, great location, and exactly the sort of comforting meal you want in the Highlands.

Prince Of India
Isle of Skye, Bayfield Rd, PortreeAfter a long day of walking we were trying to find a place to eat (about 8:15pm) but everywhere in Portree was full or closing. Prince of India was open and very welcoming. The food was delicious and service amazing. Very reasonably priced too. We both have allergies (nuts/dairy) and the waiter was very helpful with this. Would recommend!
