If I have to be honest, I would say that it is a bit on the expensive side (especially £31 for a pinot gringo blush which I found for £10 retai). I would have expected the owner to offer a round of Turkish tea, especially after spending £150. Overall it was OK

Miller and Carter, Chelmsford is housed within a cosy, characterful timbered bar. Which sets the tone nicely for an eating experience to be savoured. We were served by the very warm and friendly Gay, who tended to our every need in an unobtrusive manner. We thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday Roast Sharing Board. The chicken was moist and tasty, the lamb soft and flavoursome and the steak tender and juicy. Couple all that with the moreish camembert mash, mini roasties, excellent Yorkshire puds, plentiful carrots and greens and the ever tasty beef dripping gravy. And you have an excellent Sunday lunchtime treat. A juicy old vine USA zinfandel paired excellently with the feast.

One of my favorite pizza places to come to, they always deliver the food on time, every 10 minutes. It's not every 10 minutes, it's instantly, well not instantly, but in 10 minutes. Time duration is not that long, and the pizzas are very tasty. They have a variety of pizzas, and they do very well in serving. And I definitely love this pizza place. It's not as mainstream as Domino's or Pizza Hut, but they're highly efficient.

However I ordered the curry burger and requested the cheese be removed. I also paid extra for avocado. Unfortunately the cheese was in the burger with avocado directly on it so I had to peel off the cheese and couldn't eat the avocado. Couldn't get this amended because I was a takeaway.

Excellent. The full Fete was worth it and a perfect portion size that didn't overdo it (plus I've not had merguez sausages for years and so was really excited to see them on the menu). Biscoff hot chocolate was absolutely beautiful, although be aware it's a fairly small serving (probably for the best however!)
They even treated us to a birthday mimosa which was very considerate of them!

My wife and I had the absolute pleasure of holding our wedding reception at the Ship on 14 August 2025.

Andy, Sue, Carol and the team had been vital in helping us prepare for our special day.

Friendly, open, honest and professional are just a few words we’d use to describe our experience.

On the day itself, we and our guests were treated like royalty. We didn’t want for anything. Andy, Sue and the team worked tirelessly and were dedicated to making our day as special as possible - in which they succeeded. ?

The food was 10/10!
We opted for an informal affair with BBQ favourites, accompanied by fries, salad and sauces which our guests could help themselves to during the day. In the evening, homemade pizzas were an absolute hit with guests.
Both the day and evening food options catered for vegetarians and vegans.

The outdoor bar provided the perfect serving of all drinks throughout the whole day. Stocked up and poured to perfection. We and our guests were made to feel like VIPs.

The Ship has become a firm favourite with us and our guests. In Andy and Sue, we have found new friends. Thank you for making our day extra special!!

We recently booked the lovely rear bar area for a funeral reception with a buffet. Jess and the team really looked after us. The room was just perfect and everyone commented on the high quality and presentation of the buffet items, which were delicious. Jess was really helpful when I made the booking soon after our gran had passed and I was reassured to know we were in good hands. My family and I highly recommend The Royal Tiger. We have been there many times over the last 18 months and have never had a bad meal. We had a fabulous party for my 10year old and 7 friends.
The staff were so friendly knowledgeable, kind and fun. Our chef was Carlos. He kindly and gently supported all of the girls and put them all at ease with a big smile. The manager also joined in with entertainment at different times, a ready smile and joke. He also did a couple of rounds of musical statues. Very jovial and high spirited and easy going staff. Much appreciated.
The girls were treated to a starter (dough balls and salad), their own pizza with lots of topping choices and ice cream with sauces. They also had unlimited squash.
There was an activity sheet for each person. It cost around £15 each, which is very reasonable, for a 3 course meal with the added bonus of a fun activity, knowledge and lasted around 2 hrs.
We took a game with us too so we could entertain ourselves a bit longer so as to coincide with the cinema. We were also allowed to take banners etc to decorate but no confetti stuff.

The only thing we found a bit hard was trying to speak to the restaurant beforehand. The phone is never answered, same with emails. We live about 35 mins away so had to keep driving in to discuss anything. We spoke to different people each time and got slightly different answers from each of them regarding ability to change timings and party games etc. But all in all this didn't matter on the day as nothing was too much trouble and they're so easy going.

Extra info....they only do parties on Sundays. These are often upstairs which is also where the toilets are. They don't do parties in December or if anything major is happening in town like festivals etc.

My daughter said it was the best party ever!

Parking: We parked near the odeon. £6 all day on Sundays.

Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly. So kind.

The wait times are obscene however I can understand because it's so much more popular than your average Costa/Starbucks. The prices are slightly cheaper and the quality of the cakes is miles better! The blueberry muffin - gorgeous. Almond croissant - ?However, I did feel a bit cheated when I received my tiny "medium" iced flat white - I guess I will be sizing up to a large next time I go, because Cafe Nero will be a staple for in town coffee dates.

Also, this outlet is less expensive than few other ones where I have been in London and some other parts. Now I am a regular customer. An absolute classic. Has been a Chelmsford mainstay for decades and never fails to deliver. If you are looking for an amped-up American diner-style restaurant then Back-Inn Time should be your go-to choice. All the usual favourites from wings to ribs, burgers to steaks and even a few Mexican options like fajitas and chilli to choose from. I don't think the menu has really changed that much in 20 years but that's a testament to its popularity. With cocktails for the adults and milkshakes for the kids this gem of a diner delivers on all fronts. Service is always friendly, food always delicious and the atmosphere forever buoyant. Don't expect bargain basement prices but it is worth every penny. Happy to recommend strongly ?

Had a lovely meal on a Friday evening. Family group, and we all had 3 courses from the set menu. Everyone enjoyed each course, and the food was cooked to perfection. On arrival, we were shown to a lounge area, and drinks were ordered. Also ordered our meals before being shown to our table. Everything was really nicely presented, and the service was exceptional. Although it was a warm evening, there was a nice through breeze. We will definitely be back when in the area again.

Amazing food cooked by Andrea who warmly greeted us when we entered and great prompt friendly service by Alessandra. Everything was delicious and fresh. The bruschetta was the best I've ever had, the mains (tagliatelle bolognese and gnocchi sorrentina) were tasty and generous portions, and the homemade tiramisu was the perfect way to end the meal. Lovely Aperol Spritz too. Will definitely return.

We had a fabulous lunch at Bills. It was our first time visiting having more usually been to Cote. What a revelation. The food was much better, the menu was more extensive, portions were on average double the size of Cote and prices were much lower and excellent value but most of all service was simply outstanding. We will be back for sure and thank you for a perfect afternoon.

This is the best restaurant in Chelmsford. You may think it’s all spicy but it’s not, it is definitely all tasty. The place looks a little shabby outside but inside it’s clean and crisp and the food is just amazing. The staff are excellent too. Very courteous and efficient. After having a Saturday lunch here we decided to try the Sunday Roast. We have tried many places around Essex and must say this place comes up tops.
For starters both my wife and I had a prawn cocktail which we were both disappointed in despite there being more prawns than you would normally get but they were very tiny and hard.
This started us thinking about what our roast was going to be like ?
Well when our dinner arrived it was.WOW all served on large oval dinner plates and filled to all edges.
Lovely roast potato’s. Carrots. Parsnips. Fresh garden peas,and broccoli. And with a lovely tasing gravy.
We both like cauliflower cheese source so we ordered that as an extra.
Again everything was served piping hot. And what a delivery was the cauliflower cheese sauce? Far too much for two of us and again all home cooked and fresh.

My wife couldn’t mange a desert but although I was full I needed to see what they were like so I had apple crumble with ice cream which as expected was to the standard as the dinner.
We are always on the look out for a place to have our Sunday dinner that is close to our own home cooked and we have found it.
This will undoubtedly be our place to go for dinner and we are so looking forward in trying out all on the menu.
A big thank you to all staff for looking after us and we are looking forward to our next visit. And hopefully they will have the steak and ale pie.
This place is a gem so please give it a try but don’t take our table.

I popped in whilst baby was outside with my wife and asked if you had baby changing, you said yes in the toilets, no quick mention there of where the entrance is which is not in eye sight from the front. I looked around both corners, saw nothing, and as it was raining, went somewhere else.

Original: Whilst it looks lovely since it's been refurbished, despite there being a baby change facility in the lady's toilets, there's no directions to the ramp that is around the corner - discovered after we gave up trying to get the pram up the stairs. Maybe add a sign next time?

We had a very tasty panini but note that there was a sign in the pub saying they now only serve food for special group bookings and on days one and two of county cricket matches. Lovely - I placed an order for collection which was ready when I arrived. The fish was absolutely delicious, wonderful flavour and perfectly cooked. I have just finished my first fish and chip dinner from here and I can confidently say I have found a new local. I had heard many people speak highly of the food here and I can safely say they arn’t lying. The chips are plentiful and all large and fluffy. The fish is 10/10, not slimy but smooth and the batter is crispy without killing your teeth. On top of that staff are super friendly and welcoming to the shop. The pricing is good value for what you get and in my opinion is more than worth it.
Only thing to remember is they only take cash!

We had a fabulous meal with family for my husband's 70th birthday. This was our 2nd visit here for a celebration lunch and family get together. This time I had booked a private dining room which really made it feel special. On booking, I was emailed by Amy to confirm our booking. She was an absolute delight to communicate with. Two adults in our group have very small appetites and are put off by large helpings of food on their plates. Amy was happy for them to order from the child's menu. Our group all pre-ordered ahead of the date, as requested, our choices from the menu, choosing either 2 or 3 courses. I sent these ahead via email as we were a group of 14, including 2 children. \nWhen we arrived we were warmly welcomed by staff members, even helping to carry balloons through to decorate the room. Once we were all seated, a staff member came to take our drinks orders. Throughout the meal, staff were very attentive and asked us numerous times if we'd like more drinks ordered etc. One review mentions staff needing training?? The reviewer went on the same day as us and even mentions "moody staff"?? We saw no moodiness and all staff from the bar staff, to the serving staff, to supervisor, they were all very friendly, welcoming and professional. We all felt very looked after, and we were never rushed to finish our meal. A group of staff even came in with the cake singing Happy Birthday! Thank you, Amy! Please pass on our thanks and appreciation to the rest of the team! We will be back!
